"This was phase 2 of 3 of my window and door project. I installed another patio door and 2 bathroom windows with privacy glass. Gus had his team replace all the rotted wood and add new aluminum capping on the exterior. The products came in earlier than expected and they were able to install everything well ahead of schedule. Again, I am so pleased my neighbor referred Lifetime to me as Gus was unbelievable to work with."

"From the first interview our sales consultant through the post installation follow-up, we were very happy with the service and work that Excel Windows provided. Sales: We found Matt, our sales rep for Excel, to be friendly, knowledgeable and very responsive to the many questions we had for our large project. Matt walked us through the process of selecting an experienced window installer and quality window, communicating through email, phone and multiple in-person visits, and made sure we were comfortable with Excel’s products and assuring us that we would be receiving the level of service and product quality we desired. Matt always made himself available to answer questions, even after the project moved out of the sales phase and into the installation phase. Installation: During construction, Egor and his partner were very professional and completed the work as cleanly as possible. Of the ~28 windows we had replaced, only a couple required minor paint touchups to the trim and no window trim needed to be replaced. The trim around the sliding doors had to be replaced to allow for door installation, which we were informed about during the sales process. Excel had to be called back out once to fix a piece of warped trim work, but not a major issue. The one thing I wished I had done was ask whether I could buy pre-primed white trim and paint it in advance of Excel replacing the trim around the doors. It would have saved a lot of time in taping and painting the new trim after Excel was done, since they only install unprimed trim. Schedule: The work was completed in about 3.5 days. While this was about a day longer than originally quoted, Excel kept us informed of issues encountered during installation and their impact on the schedule. Leo, the person who scheduled the install crews, was very responsive and accommodating in finding days that worked with our schedule so someone could be home while the work was going on. Product: The Thermal windows we purchased (mostly double hung) are working great and we immediately saw an impact on our electricity bill since we no longer have the 20+ year-old drafty windows that were original to the house. The new windows are easy to move up and down and we like the additional features such as the night locks, screen locks and InvisiScreen. We went with a more contemporary window grid instead of the traditional colonial grid on the windows we replaced, and Excel helped us visualize the windows before ordering them by preparing a mock up of a couple of the windows to make sure we were comfortable with how they looked. We really like how they turned out. We had some issues with the sliding glass doors we purchased in that one of the doors was found to be bowed after installation (factory defect) and had to be replaced. The screen doors had to be adjusted a couple of times so they locked properly. More of a nuisance than anything, and Excel quickly acknowledged there was an issue and did what they could to resolve it as soon as possible. Customer Service: Throughout the process with Excel Windows, we found them to be very professional and responsive to requests and communications from us. Even after the windows and doors were installed and the check was cashed, they called to check up on things and quickly sent someone out if tweaks to anything were needed. As we entered into our first window replacement adventure, customer service and communication was the most important aspect of the project to us, outside of installing quality windows that would last for many years with minimal damage to the surrounding trim. Excel Windows met our lofty expectations in this area, and we would definitely call on them in the future for any window/door needs. We highly recommend them to anyone looking to take on a window and door replacement project, whether big or small, as they did a great job with our fairly large project."

"Came on site for a leaking basement window, and spotted some problems with the brick-work above the window that was likely causing the problem. Referred me to a tuckpointing specialist. Honest and good referral too!

"I waited quite a while to do a review because with a sliding balcony door, you want to see how it holds up through the seasons and if there are problems, you want to see if those get resolved. First, there were no problems whatsoever over the past year that weâ ve had the new door. It slides beautifully, never sticks, seals well to keep out the cold (or keep in the cold in the case of AC). The glass has held up well, no mottling, and we got super strong screening on the screen section because of a squirrel / dog issue. The screening has also held up. We continue to be pleased with the door. At the time it was installed, it was done well. We were told exactly what to expect in terms of the wait for when it would arrive and our expectations were managed well. Everyone was friendly and professional and all has stood up. We never had to call them for any repairs or adjustments. I can now say it has all been five-star."

"Called to school appt for estimate and within 2 days had owner out for estimate. I looked at 3 other companies and was slightly concerned that Best Windows was so much less. But decided to go with them and I am quite happy I did. I was told windows would be ready in 4 to 5 weeks (I had a large customize size window that 2 companies could not meet my requirements). 4 1/2 weeks later got a call for installation and we agreed 2 install was for 3 days after the call. They replaced all 8 windows and one sliding glass door in one day. And there was a lot of dry rot and frame damage they needed to work on. They did a great job. They explained why we had so much air leakage with our old sliding glass door (no insulation a around it at all and it was just places on concrete slab with no buffer so lots of air coming in that way). They clean up inside and outside very well. You couldn't tell they were here other than the lovely new windows. Several neighbors have since asked me who I used since they like the job done on my place. I have no qualms about recommending Best Windows to them."

"I am very pleased with my new windows. I used Home Genius Exteriors to do my roof, gutter protection, and now Windows. This is an absolute amazing company, my salesman brendan was very helpful, Devan the Project Manager helped make sure everything went smoothly. Walter and Mike also from production were very friendly and professional. And Shawn, the window installer was polite, knowlagable, and efficient. And even cleaned up on his way out. Next on the agenda is to get a new door taken care of. Highly recommend HGE"

"Russell gave us an estimate on the windows and glass door that needed replacing. The final cost was exactly as he estimated. We were given a date about 4 months later for the installation. When it got closer to the date, we got a call that they had a opening earlier than expected, so the installers were here about 10 days earlier than originally thought. It was a 2-day install which they told us when they arrived. They were very patient and answered all our questions, cleaned up nicely and were very professional."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

For small, non-pressure-related cracks, you can fix them using two-part epoxy. This spares you the cost and hassle of replacing the glass. Simply clean the surface and remove any debris or dirt, wait for the glass to dry, then spread an even layer of mixed epoxy solution over the crack. You can use a putty knife or rubber spatula to push the epoxy into the crack.

Yes, you can resilver old mirrors without any issues, and in many cases, it’s is the only way to maintain and preserve old, antique mirrors. Resilvering involves stripping the old silver off of the mirror, replacing the silver, and adding a protective backing to the glass. The process costs around $15 per square foot of glass, making it a relatively inexpensive solution for making older mirrors functional again. You can buy a DIY resilvering kit, but we strongly recommend hiring a professional to avoid additional damage and mistakes.

Despite their popularity and modern styling, glass railings have a few drawbacks. The first is their high initial cost. While they cost little to maintain, they can be costly to install. Also, scratches and chips in the glass are highly visible and require repairs. Additionally, glass railings require frequent cleaning to maintain their good looks.

Contrary to popular belief, wavy glass in older homes isn't caused by warping. The blowing technique used to create windows in homes dating back to the 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s left behind small bubbles that create a wavy effect. If a glass window is functional, there's no need to consider wavy glass damaged. In fact, many homeowners prefer the old charm of wavy glass.

You should avoid multi-surface cleaners, bleach, and any cloth or scrubbing material that has a rough surface when cleaning mirrors. Multi-surface cleaners and bleach will get smudges and debris off of the glass, but they more often leave behind cleaner residue because they don’t evaporate like a glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Additionally, any abrasive material or even the scrubbing side of a sponge can scratch your glass or coatings on the glass, gradually making the mirror look hazy.
