"Andrew is a master deck builder, and incredibly creative. Our new deck is truly a work of art. He constantly came up with ideas to make our deck one of a kind. His attention to detail is remarkable, he is not satisfied unless every detail is perfect. Andrew is the hardest working contractor we have ever used and put in long hours on the job site. As beautiful as the deck looks, some of the most impressive features are not noticeable because they are in the way the deck was framed. The deck is rock solid. It will be around for decades to come. And finally, Andrew was a joy to talk to every day. He’s a very honest person, and I enjoyed learning some of his skills. Thanks again Andrew!"

"they said they were going to show up Monday at 9am, after a brief delay not due to them they were here shortly after. he looked at the door and said it wasn't a problem. he proceeded to the store at which he called and stated that he could just get the hinges instead of the whole door and hardware. of course I agreed resulting in saving money. once he returned the door was fixed in a short amount of time. very polite and professional. would definitely use Edgyver again if I have any more handyman projects. thank you to them for doing a great job."

"I had the pleasure of working with Mark when I needed two of my bathroom vanities replaced. He was quick to come by and give a fair estimate, and always met any time committments once the work started. I fully recommend Mark, it was a bonus that he was a nice guy too. Customers say: Terrific value

"Dan was very reasonably priced, showed up on time, communicated well, and did great work. Can't ask for anything more! We hired him to convert an open archway loft into closed glass pane doorway to close off our office. The job proved to be trickier than expected due to some unforeseen things behind the wall and ceiling, but he still completed it quickly and it looks great. It also keeps the noise of my kids out when I'm working from home!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Professionals charge between $60 and $95 per hour to install ornamental porch columns. The amount of time they need varies based on the condition of the porch, whether they need to remove old columns, and if there is any damage to your porch's structure. This cost can increase if more issues come up during the installation process.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.
