"Eric was on time and fixed every sprinkler head in the back yard that was broken and reconfigured the irrigation design to account for the new swing set system we had installed. He explained everything he was doing to make sure we were comfortable with the changes. We would definitely use Eric Smith again."

"What can I say? Patrick was prompt (earlier than expected), diligent, efficient and precise. Returned my call right away. The next day he & his assistant showed up and went immediately to work, and was so very pleasant and hard-working. Simply awesome & I sincerely recommend him. He showed us how to work the new system installed, changed 5 of the 7 zone heads and everything is working perfectly. He's just great ! Thanks, Patrick ~ pleasure to know you."

"I hired North Florida Lawn in 2021 to resod my terrible lawn. The yard is now beautiful, and their monthly service for fertilizing and maintaining the lawn is expert and reasonable. Justin Williams, our technician, is extremely courteous, knowledgeable, keeps me advised on things to look for and ideas. I am extremely happy with the monthly services of North Florida Lawn and highly recommend this company. Job well done monthly by Justin."

"This company was awesome! I had just had sod placed in my yard when I discovered my backyard irrigation was not working. They squeezed me in the same day. Stayed until dark to repair my system, unfortunately damaged by the sod people, replaced the sod they had to pick up to work, then cleaned the area. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

To reduce landscaping costs, you can implement several strategies at every stage. Consider doing the work yourself (DIY) to save on professional labor fees. You can also repurpose existing features and materials from other home projects. When purchasing new items, choose more inexpensive materials and opt for softscaping over hardscaping where possible. Another effective method is to buy young plants or plant from seed, which is more cost-effective than purchasing mature plants.

Depending on the method you choose to remove grass, it may or may not matter whether the grass is wet or dry when you perform the task. A dryer lawn will be easier to negotiate with a sod cutter, especially if you're not planning to reuse the turf. However, using a shovel by hand might be a little easier if the ground is slightly damp but not so much that it sticks to the tool.

Clearing land can be incredibly challenging, depending on various factors like the size of the area, the density of vegetation, and the presence of obstacles, such as rocks or stumps. Handling smaller vegetation and brush might be manageable with the right tools and preparation. However, tasks like removing larger trees or dealing with extensive overgrowth may require specialized equipment, expertise, and safety precautions.

There are several ways to decompose yard waste quickly. The first step is to move all debris into a compost bin or pile. From there, microorganisms, bacteria, and insects will break down the yard waste into compost. To speed things up, shred the waste into smaller pieces, add live worms to the pile, or introduce nitrogen-rich compost accelerators like grass clippings, coffee grounds, and manure. Turn the compost over every few days. This process, called aerating, allows oxygen to get in and accelerate decomposition.
