Customers say: Quality work

"We are so pleased with our kitchen! We visited several businesses and definitely made the right decision to go with Woodworks. The showroom is great. Jack patiently spent hours with us choosing cabinets, counters, trim and options. His feedback was very helpful. The removal of our old cabinets and counters was quick, painless and neat. Arron and David are perfectionists at installation. They took their time to make sure everything was perfect. We’ve received so many compliments. We would highly recommend Woodworks."

"Nova Cabinets absolutely knocked my kitchen remodel out of the park. From day one, their team was professional, organized, and easy to work with, and the installation crew (Metin, Faruk and his son) was the real standout. They showed up on time, got right to work, and moved efficiently without cutting corners. What impressed me most was how capable they were beyond just cabinet installation. They helped with every facet of the remodel, including plumbing, sink installation, dishwasher and garbage disposal install, above-the-stove microwave installation, and quartz countertop installation. They even took care of a few odds and ends that always come up during a remodel, including minor electrical work plus sheetrock and mudding, which saved me from having to juggle multiple contractors. The whole experience felt smooth and coordinated, and the crew clearly knew what they were doing. Even better, t"

Customers say: Terrific value

"I highly recommend Bob! He built a beautiful large wooden wheelchair ramp for us. From start to finish he was very professional and kind. The ramp is everything and more we asked for from size, sturdiness, look, and safety. Excellent craftsmanship and he definitely looked at every detail before finalizing it. Also, he charges very fair prices. I will definitely use his services for any other large projects I have in the future."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

While carpenters and woodworkers perform similar tasks, their focus differs. A carpenter is typically responsible for the structural woodwork involved in construction, such as framing, installing sheathing, hanging kitchen cabinets, and installing trusses. In contrast, a woodworker handles more intricate and custom projects, like building custom furniture, installing wainscoting, and creating detailed interior trim and moldings. Based on these definitions, many woodworkers can perform the tasks of a carpenter, but it's always best to discuss your specific project with a professional to ensure they have the necessary skills.

Hiring a woodworker can be expensive, depending on the job, but it’s very often well worth the investment. Woodworkers are able to provide custom pieces of furniture and handmade construction to present a finished product that is exactly to your specifications. If you have a specific vision for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or home feature, the cost of hiring a professional woodworker is worthwhile. Plus, you’ll often get a higher quality product than what you could buy in stores for a fraction of the price.
