"I was very pleased with Stephen's work.  Stephen gave me a detailed written estimate prior to the work.  He was courteous and the work was done in a timely manner.  He was also flexible in his payment arrangements.  I could not pay the full amount at the time of service.  He allowed me to make two payments.  I would highly recommend Stephen for any household work.

"I had a 400 square foot detached garage that had been used as my husbands work shop and I decided to renovate it and make it a guest cottage by extending it 420 more square feet.  Looked up remodeling contractors on Angies list to help me in my selection.  I found Steppen & Spaulding listed as well as others and received quotes from them as well as three others.  My choice after reviewing Steppen & Spaulding's contract was made.  They did exactly what their contract stated with the exception of when it came to the fill for the septic system requiring more fill due to changes in the counties rules regarding septic systems; at a slight increase in cost for the fill.  Project started in November 2012 and completed in August 2013.  They were very accommodating throughout the whole process and I am very pleased with the end results.  Would definetly hire them again. Trusted them as well with the selection of their sub-contractors. What impressed me the most was that they cleaned up the work site at the end of each work day on the project and required that of any sub-contactor as well.  Not one to be able to visualize the concept of a structure from a drawing on paper (blueprint) to the finished product; I had to put a lot of faith in Dan Spaulding and Thomas Steppen. Thank you Dan, Thomas and Jay.  I am very happy with the finished product and the wonderful work you did. Would reccomend your company anytime.

"Excellent, amazing! They were on time ,actually ahead of schedule. They were professional, they cleaned up,no additional costs just a great company. The owner who is very nice was present for the entire job. Every time I called or E-mailed they responded immediately. By far the best experience I have ever had with a contractor or any company. "She was fine. We were working long distance and communication took place via phone and email. I would not ever hire someone long distance again for design work unless I see something on their website that is exactly what I like. She was very responsive though and she provided us with pictures of sample furniture and physical designs. I gave her a 'B' because she didn’t take a lot of time to customize the plan to our style. I expected her to adapt to our style, but instead she tried to make our living room fit her style. She seems to have a look that is her style and we actually asked her re-do the plan a few times before we got something usable. In the end, she is very good at what she does and she is very professional, but her design style doesn’t fit our way of living."

"Valenchi Construction are the best. We hired them when my mother had water damage in her home due a broken water pipe. Their work is outstanding, as they pay attention to every detail, and their customer service is the best. They answered all of our questions and made sure my 94 year old mother was totally safe during the entire repair process, and even assisted us with the insurance company to pay for a hotel when the flooring had to be removed and new flooring put in."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.
