"I Called to get an in person quote for a tankless water heater flush and left this job with a whole house filter and a fridge connection. When Michael first arrived we inspected the tankless unit and tested the water to conclude flushing was not my best option. He then walked me through my options for home filters and we decided on a Halo system. Michael was very well educated on the subject and gave me the best value filter for my needs. He installed the unit the next day in less than a few hours and left me with a flawless work of art. I couldn't be more impressed with the professionalism he brings to this trade! I also requested to hook up a fridge and he did that in what seemed like 30 minutes. He will be the only plumber I call from now on!! Thank you Michael!!!"

"Brandon came out on a Sunday and looked over the job site for details needed to present an estimate. Within a day I had the estimate with 3 options from low to high, all of which were reasonable the only difference being what equipment I wanted to install. Option #1 and #2 were lower end brands that were less expensive but since the difference in price betwee Option #1 and Option #3 was about $1400, I went to Option #3 which was their top tier brand, Carrier that clearly is an industry leader and trusted brand for longevity. I was installing a SINGLE ductless to cool a standard bedroom size room with a 18,000 BTU unit. The job took a total of about 5 hours since they were mounting the unit in a second floor bedroom and they needed to run the power/refrigerant lines two stories down to the compressor mounted on the wall. Everyone from Office Staff Jim to installers were absolutely wonderful to deal with. You can trust this company."

"Joe was punctual, polite, and very helpful. He took a little while to diagnose the problem with the heating unit, but once he figured it out he had the part ready and the installation underway (he first told us what the part would cost and asked permission to go ahead with the repair- which I appreciated). He tested the unit when he was done to make sure it was the right fix, which it was. Then we asked if he could also look at the air conditioning unit while he was here, since it stopped working at the end of last summer. He took some more time to fix that one, which was even harder to diagnose. But, he kept testing until he found the problem, and in the end we had 2 operable units that will save us from another service call in the busy summer season. It was worth the money.

"Very happy, Arrived on time and got right to work. Sealed off work area with plastic curtain to protect the rest of the house from dust. once all asbestos was removed Juan and his crew were ready to go installing the new ducts. Everything went smoothly and once complete Juan showed me the work they had done and tested our system to make sure everything was working as it should. They vacuumed the area and left it as they found it."

Thermostat screen went blank-furnace and A/C wouldn't come on

Chris arrived within 1 hour of my call and checked the furnace first. He found a blown fuse and no power to low voltage wires inside the unit. He then checked the thermostat and found it was no longer working. Chris replaced the fuses and the thermostat with a similar unit and tested the entire system. He then checked my A/C unit for Freon levels and found and repaired a wire that had come loose.

Chris was very pleasant to work with and explained what he was checking and why as he went along. He explained how the new thermostat worked and provided me with both the installation and operating manuals. Great service!

"FIRST: This company is TERRIBLE at communications once they've made the sale. Craig the owner will take his time getting back to you, IF he ever does.

I had a very undersized AC/heating unit on my house and my electric bill was enormous. I decided to have it all redone and after reading a number of great reviews on Angie's List, settled on using Craig at Iwai Cooling & Heating. I ended up getting the top of the line unit, 2 actually for 2 zones, costing a little over $27k.

The installation went pretty well, except for one installer who had a really bad attitude. They installed the gas line in the wrong place on the outside of my house, even though my kitchen was completely gutted (for a remodel) and they should have put it on the inside of the open wall. When I asked them about it, the worker got really irate and snapped at me that I should have told him sooner. My response was that I shouldn't have had to tell him at all! Why would someone want an exposed gas pipe on the outside of their house when it could be hidden on the inside of the wall???

They also didn't plan some things very well and didn't seem to know the L.A. building code on some things. They didn't seem to know that the AC platform needs to  be within 20' of an attic entrance, which threw off our kitchen remodel design. I had to forego skylights in my kitchen because they had to put the unit over my kitchen in the attic, instead of over my bedroom. They also didn't plan well where to put the AC unit on my roof and there was a delay while they had to build a special platform for it to sit on. That all should have been pre-planned while we were waiting for the units on order.

During my kitchen remodel, one of my expensive touch-screen thermostats was smashed by a worker. I contacted Craig to get me a new one on Aug 4. It's now Aug 15th, 107º outside and we still don't have it. I texted Craig several times for an ETA, sometimes he responds, sometimes he doesn't. Finally yesterday I texted him and he responded that it was in. It was 105º outside and I offered to drive to his office to pick up the thermostat. He told me it was in Irwindale. I said that's fine, it's too hot to ilve without it any longer. Then he tells me to just go buy a cheap one at Home Depot. I'm starting to think that the thermostat isn't in after all. I tell him I still have my old thermostat and that I tried hooking it up but couldn't get it to work. He gives me instructions on what color wires go where. I start hooking it up...the wires spark. THEN he texts me to turn off the electricity before doing it (Mind you, there's 15-20 minutes between each of his texts). I get it hooked up like he says, turn it on and the unit sparks and blows a fuse in the attic. I tell him the wiring must be wrong at the AC unit. He says no.

Now I'm sitting in the attic waiting for him to tell me how to get this fixed and he stops responding all together. I text him the next day saying I'm going to write bad reviews for him leaving me stranded. He texts me right back that he didn't see my messages. Baloney.

Then he says it's hard to see (in the photo I sent him) where the wires are going. I reply he should know where they're going, his company installed it!  He then says he's going to have the technician that installed it contact me. Then no further word that night. The next morning I text him that I never heard from the technician. He then writes back, and I assume he thinks he's texting his technician and not me, "Make sure you call this guy he's all p***** off. Not sure how u wired the t stat. he wants you to walk through so for write (sic) now he can put a cheap one..."

Remember, it was HIS idea to put on a cheap thermostat!

I write him back and say I'm sure he meant that for his technician, and how professional it is to badmouth his customers to his workers. I said I guess he thinks I shouldn't be p***** at having to sit in the heat again today. He writes back: "Sorry, just trying to get you taken care of."

His tech does text me, but tells me that my AC unit won't work with a cheap thermostat....directly in conflict to what the owner, Craig, tells me. He goes on to say that if I mess with the unit they won't be responsible for it. I tell him that it was the owner that told me to mess with the wires and what order to put them in so HE'LL be responsible if anything goes wrong!

I actually think I can hook up a cheap thermostat, I don't think these people know what they're talking about. The manual from American Standard shows a hookup with the 6 colored wires I have instead of just the three that they hooked up. I think they just don't have the new thermostat...he just never expected me to say I'll come pick it up.

They still haven't finished installing all my grills and I still need to have some sort of testing done, so I still have to deal with these people. That is, if they ever answer their calls. I see other people have complained about their bad communication as well.

UPDATE: It's been two months since I wrote my review and I'm still waiting for them to finish this job and final my permit. I have texted Craig 6 or more times asking him what's going on with making the appointment for the HERS testing. When he responds he says he'll call the company and then I hear nothing. I texted him again the other day and he wrote back he was going to try a different company...again no response.

FAQs for boiler installation projects in Montclair, CA

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.

Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.

It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.

The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350
