This is the first time in many years that I have signed in to Angi. I saw that I still had this pending review to complete. Let me just say, this company was excellent. Would hire them again for a central aircon and heating install project. Middle range price but I think excellent work that you can trust.

Very well. Joe and his team were very respectful and always provided us with quick/easy to understand responses to our questions. He also installed a couple of vents for us at no extra cost. He's been over once to turn on the furnace after the gas company turned off the gas to fix a leak. Came by within an hour of calling him...in and out within minutes!

They were absolutely wonderful. It was the hottest day of the year and our air conditioning broke and I couldn't find anybody to come out on that day. Everybody was out two or three days. The guy came out that day and he had the part in his truck and fixed it. It was awesome. I couldn't say enough about him.

West Tech Mechanical Services (Joe Gonsalez) did an excellent job. This is the best investment that I have ever made for our quality of life in our home. Joe's attention to detail is evident in the care and consideration that he put into the duct work in the installation process. He thoroughly explained to me the importance of the duct work: location and size of the ducts to maximize the efficiency of the system that he was installing. Our home is an old home, and I really appreciate the care that he took in the installation process. I obtained 3 quotes for this job and West Tech Mechanical was in the middle. All the persons that came to our house were nice people. However, Joe's obvious attention to detail and how he explained the job is what convinced me that he and his company were the right people for the job. For a home owner that is considering the installation of a central air and heat system in their home or, any work for that matter on an existing heat and air system, I highly recommend this company as one that should be considered.

Better than expected. I recieved several bids (3), and decided to with West Tech Mechanical Services because even though it was a little bit higher than the lowest bid, I was impressed with how Joe explained how his company is different than other companies with cheaper bids. He explained that 90% of other companies don't take the time nor expense to work on the most important part of the installation which is the foundation preparation for the equipment. Other companies cut too many corners regardless of the quality brand of the equipment, many times the installers don't get the right size ducting or connections because of mistakes and don't have time to go back to the parts store because they are under pressure to finish the job in a couple of days, so the improvise using the wrong size ducting and cutting the distance of the duct run to keep everything under budget. The problem with that is uneven air distribution and uneven temperatures throughout the home, causing the equipment to run longer times not meeting temper demands and further causing wear and tare along with higher utility bills. Joe explained that spend more time in getting all the correct parts and runs the ducting to the farthest ends of the house so that the air gets conditioned almost instantly. So I decided to go with West Tech Mechanical Service, and when everything was said and done, I was impressed with how the air immediately cooled and heated my home. I even had the city inspector come over to inspect the job and he said he was impressed of how well the ducting was installed. So I decided to write this review which I hope helps others out there in looking for the right contractor.

I made an appointment and Joe came right out and took care of the problem at a rental home I own. I forgot about the senior discount and called Joe. He said the company would send me the discount (senior) in the mail. Will use their service again.

Joe Gonzales is a great guy to work with. He's efficient, knowledgable, and economical. We loved working with him and would gladly work with him again. Not only was he the most affordable, he cleaned up EVERY DAY and found the most effective way to cool our aging home in the wicked hot inland valley summers. For the first time ever, my husband can sleep in or bedroom comfortably during a heat wave! We are so grateful to have found Joe on AL. There's a reason why he's so highly rated on it!

It went well. He was a very nice man who explained things to me and he was on time but he also spent time checking and troubleshooting. He could have told me any old stiory as I know nothing about air conditioning- but after a while, he discovered the problem.

West Tech came out almost immediately and very promptly. Spent a couple of hours inspected the condenser, coil, furnace, and circuit breaker. He diagnosed that the compressor in the condenser was not working and there was no refrigerant leakage, which is contrary to the opinions of other estimators. He suggested that I change the compressor and repair the blower motor. Because the system is about 22 years old, I insisted on replacing the condenser and the blower motor. Considering all the work that was required, the price was fair and reasonable. The warranty he gave was excellent in addition to the manufacturer's warranty. I was pleased with his work and thoroughness. He was very meticulous and detail oriented besides being knowledgeable. In fact, I found out he is NATE (North America Technician Excellence) certified but he does not advertise as such. I trust this company and highly recommend him.

We initially called a big AC company down the street to troubleshoot the problem. After the company came out for the service call, we waited another three weeks to finally get the estimate of $3500 to fix the leaks around our furnace?!!
Luckily a relative referred us to Joe, who came out and showed us how the capacitor in our fan was barely working. Then he diagnosed our AC was not getting sufficient air flow due to a clogged evaporator coil.  He walked use through the entire process so we could understand.  He replaced the capacitor, pulled the evaporator coil out and showed us the disgusting amount of hair, dirt and debris in the coil.  He was able to fix everything and we paid less than $500. A true professional, a true trouble shooter, and a d*** nice guy.  He taught us these units usually just need maintenance, not replacement or unnecessary repairs.  Thanks JOE!!

I met with Joe, who walked me through a number of options and ideas for replacing an HVAC system.
Among the vendors I looked at, West Tech came in closest to my targeted budget with a Rheem system.  I appreciate that he didn't try to sell me up to a higher-level technology.  Unfortunately, the system that they spec'd out for me ended up illustrating why I really need to spend more than I had originally budgeted.  After updating those expectations, I ended up going with a Lennox dealer that was rather more expensive but better matched what I wanted
If you're looking for an HVAC quote, I recommend you call these guys.  They know a number of different brands and will give you a different perspective than what you'll get from a dedicated Lennox/Carrier shop.  Especially if you're stretching your budget, these guys will be highly competitive.

When deciding on a contractor to install central AC and heat in this old 1924 home in Altadena, I used Angie's List to get estimates.  This home had nothing centralized (just an old wall heater), so everything needed to be done.  Small home as well (1000 sq ft), but I am planning an addition so they installed a 3 ton AC unit.  Not knowing anything about this type of work, I was reliant completely on the contractor to help and guide me through this
I selected Joe from Toro.  I immediately felt a strong sense of professionalism and pride in his craft.  His perspective was to get the job done right and without shortcuts.  Some of the more important things to note:
  • - Use of quality parts.  The highest quality ducting was used.  Trane equipment was installed.
  • - Care of installation.  The heating unit installed in the attic was hung higher on purpose to allow the unit to work less to move the air.  Ducting was hung to minimize the effort.
  • - Additional outlets and servicing items.  He installed outlets in the attic with the unit to allow it to be managed more easily, and if equipment needs to be plugged in to work up there there are outlets.
  • - Temperature controlled fan in the attic.  I cannot stress how much this has helped, and no other contractor discussed doing this.  This was operational before the AC was, and the I immediately tell how much cooler the house was with just this roof fan operational.  This equates to the AC not having to work nearly as hard.

Toro and Joe have a customer for life now.  Really enjoyed working for him.  They were working hard the four days it took them to complete it.  It's difficult to believe that this type of job could be done with quality in two days like many other contractors quoted.
Response from West Tech Mechanical Services

"Thank you so very much for this detailed review and the appreciation for both quality of equipment and material, and for the quality of work. Everything works hand in hand, especially when the customer allows us to perform our best results. We are truly grateful."

It went well. He was on time. He didn't find anything wrong with my system. He said the amount of freon in the system was just right--not too much and not too little. I liked that almost no freon appeared to leak out when he connected his equipment to test the level. He spent a lot of time with me and answered all my questions. He gave me an estimate for the cost of installing a new system. I think he hoped I would buy a new system, but I did not do so. I would buy a new system if I could convince myself that the  electricity savings would pay for the system within a reasonable number of years.

Quote more than 50% over comparable quotes for similar service.
Response from West Tech Mechanical Services

"We could have given a quote at 50% less than the $16,000, but a lot of the time and materials would have had to be cut in half as well. The home inspection indicated that the existing single central air system was undersized for a home well over 2,300 sq ft, along with under sized ducting, plus the home owner requested a quote to relocate the air registers from ceiling to high side wall which would entail cutting into the structure of the base plate framing. We proposed two new central air units and two new reducting zone to properly improve even temperatures throughout the home for $16,000, a price we believe to be reasonable for a quality installation. We can't cut corners and expect to deliver quality at the same time."

They worked on the weekend to complete the job on time.  They were incredibly efficient, and cleanly.  Also, they were
extremely knowledgeable throughout the entire process.  Another important note is that they came in on budget.  No additional funds were requested.
This is an outstanding company, and I highly recommend them.
