"Can't say enough about Jim Ruffin and his crew. They did a superb job on remodeling our basement, and they were the most recent after quoting several sources. We'll definitely hire them again."

"I was surprised how quickly I was able to schedule them to come out. Even though it was a small repair, the cabinet door hinge needed to be repaired before the door was damaged. They got right to work, bought a new hinge when the one there was damaged beyond repair, installed the new hinges quickly, and cleaned up quickly. I appreciate the work they did and will absolutely recommend them to friends needing work done and will call on them again."

I’ve been in the construction industry for well over 10 years I’ve mastered in different trades and as of right now I’ve been building high end pole barns and barndominiums. I’m located around northern Colorado and more south I also travel to Cheyenne Wyoming. \n\nI specialize in structural framing, laminate flooring, tile, drywall, pole barns. \n\nI treat my jobs like if I was building it for me. I pay attention to details on the projects I do.

"I have always wanted an open gable deck on the front of my house. Juan surpassed my expectations! I truly believe that I have the most beautiful deck in Pine Bluffs! I gave Juan the measurements and let him do the rest! Rachelle gave me some great ideas for staining and lighting! Love my front deck and looking forward to next summer to enjoy sun in the morning and protection from the wind and hot sun in the afternoon. Not only does DMI provide awesome workmanship, they are also very affordable! We continue to receive compliments on new deck! Bathroom remodel We are so pleased with our bathroom remodel! Juan did a complete tear down and remodel of our bathroom. His tile work is beautiful! We received weekly updates from Rachelle and were always notified of changes in the schedule. We highly recommend DMI Innovations for all home improvements!"

"I would not use this service again. It started off great, Amanda was responsive and she really is talented. I appreciated her ideas and she steered is in a great direction out of the gate without materials and design choices. While I appreciated Amanda's ideas and loved her recommendations, once the remodel started moving forward her responsiveness was NOT at all in line with the time needed to make decisions (7-10 days to answer an email in multiple cases). I ended up having to make choices on my own in tight timelines without her input on how it would fit with the design we were working on. The reason I chose this service was to get help making smart decisions about our home remodel to minimize the time, energy and stress involved in the process. I would say this service was NOT at all appropriate for those needs. Waiting 7-10 days for help with remodel decisions simply does not cut it. I did most of the footwork and choosing on my own due to the lag in response time. While I liked Amanda and feel she was very talented, I get the feeling this company has one designer that is way overloaded with projects and she simply is not keeping up.
If you decide to go ahead with this service despite this information, make sure you schedule weekly calls and come with a list of questions well in advance of when you need answers.
In addition, exercise caution when purchasing any materials through their discounted relationships. I ordered 2 rugs that were not available for shipment for more than 60 days after my order. Later, I decided that the rugs were not as big a priority as some other unexpected expenses that came up during the project. The rugs had still had not shipped and I had not been charged. Now I do not intend to place blame with HMD for my change of decision and given the amount of paperwork I had to sign when purchasing the rugs, I thought there would be a chance I'd be stuck with the purchase. All of that is none of their fault. The frustrating part of the situation is that it has been several weeks since I asked whether I could cancel the order all the time getting closer to the rug ship date. I got one vague email a week ago saying maybe the order could be cancelled with a restock fee. Restock fee? That doesn't make sense to me. It never left the stock, it hasn't shipped, and I haven't even been charged. Worse, I still don't known whether the order can be cancelled or not. So that process has been confusing and HMD has not been very responsive to my need for an answer. I would advise NOT to purchase anything through them unless you are absolutely sure it is perfect and it is in stock and can ship immediately. Don't plan on being able to change your mind or make returns without a hassle.
In the end I got two one hour calls and a total of about ~15 emails (short answers easily composed in 5-10 min) for $600. NOT a deal in my book. In fairness to Amanda, we also have a great looking house that I will not pretend is not due to some great advice from her at the beginning of the project. I think this company has potential if it can manage response time better especially for big projects, but I cannot recommend at current service level.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Prioritize radon testing before and after basement remodeling. Cheyenne has extremely high radon levels, making mitigation systems essential for protecting children and pets. Install code-compliant egress windows with easy-to-open covers for emergency escapes. Balance your HVAC system to prevent high WY winds from drawing dangerous exhaust gases into the home. Test older homes for lead and asbestos, and properly waterproof the foundation to prevent respiratory issues from mold.

Helpful?

Watch out for local professionals who ask you to pull your own building permits. A reputable contractor will always pull permits in their own name. Avoid bids that omit permit details, egress window requirements, or radon mitigation plans. Because WY lacks statewide regulations, you must demand proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation. Finally, reject quotes from contractors who ignore Cheyenne's expansive soil conditions during basement remodeling.

Helpful?

Choose moisture-resistant materials for your basement remodeling project. Install rigid foam insulation on foundation walls instead of fiberglass batts to prevent mold growth. Use pressure-treated lumber wherever wood touches concrete. Because Cheyenne is in a high-risk hail zone, select durable window well covers. To meet WY code requirements for cold climates, install high-R-value insulation. Finally, select sealed vapor barriers and flooring compatible with sub-slab radon mitigation systems.

Helpful?

When planning basement remodeling, prepare for unseen foundation issues caused by Cheyenne's expansive clay soils and severe freeze-thaw cycles. You will face extra expenses if you find water damage, mold, or structural cracks behind old walls. Adding a bedroom requires cutting concrete for egress windows to meet local codes. Furthermore, WY homes often require radon mitigation systems and asbestos testing, which add to your total budget.

Helpful?

Create a seasonal checklist to protect your basement remodeling investment. In spring, inspect foundation walls for cracks caused by WY freeze-thaw cycles. During summer, clear debris from window wells and check covers for hail damage. In fall, test smoke detectors and conduct a long-term radon test. Throughout the Cheyenne winter, monitor your floors for heaving, check HVAC airflow, and keep emergency egress window wells completely clear of snow.
