"Jim did an amazing job finishing our basement! Took about a month which was perfect timing being just him and a helper. He kept us in the loop on what was going on and matched the rest of our house perfectly."

"Hometown Construction was an excellent partner in the construction of my deck and basement remodel. Josh was professional, listened to my concerns and finished on time and on budget. His subcontractors emulated the same values and professionalism as Josh."

"I originally hired Emilio to remove popcorn ceiling ,re-texture and paint. I was really impressed with the work they performed. In fact, because of the great job they did, I had them install new doors for and and also re-texture one of my bathrooms. The price was reasonable, they were always on time, they kept me updated on where they were with each project. I plan on hiring them again to do more work in my home."

Customers say: Quick response

"Tile One was the first time using Home Advisor. We needed a basement remodel that included a reconfiguration of the layout, demo, plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, texture, paint, tile, carpet and an egress window. We pulled permits and it didn’t slow them down. They were prepared, informative, considerate and respectful. They completed the project within the timeframe. I would definitely hire them again! We love our beautiful and functional basement! Thank you!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

You should plan on waiting at least a year and ideally two to three years after construction before finishing your basement. This will give the foundation time to settle in response to the weight of your home and the expansion of the surrounding soil. You can then repair your foundation and seal any cracks as needed before finishing it to reduce your risk of future leaks or other issues.

Save money on your basement finishing project by making cost-effective decisions such as minimizing structural changes and avoiding costly construction revisions. DIY simpler tasks such as painting or basic cleanup to reduce labor costs. You can also opt for energy-efficient fixtures and materials that may qualify for rebates or tax incentives.

Costs are guided by renovation scope, materials chosen, project duration, structural needs, and labor. Prioritizing tasks prevents unforeseen expenses.

Yes, you can add a kitchenette to a basement. However, you’ll have to consider the costs associated with basement kitchenettes. If you’re starting from scratch in an unfinished basement, you’ll need to account for brand-new plumbing, electrical, flooring, and more in addition to the cost of the kitchenette. If you’re putting a kitchenette in an already finished basement equipped with plumbing and electrical, you’ll save considerable money.

There are several small, inexpensive upgrades you can make to upgrade your basement. Although you still need to adhere to building codes and obtain permits when necessary, you can complete small but mighty tasks like painting the masonry walls and installing entertainment devices to make the space more usable.
