"The process was quick and easy. We purchased an Angie's List deal. The responsiveness was professional. I scheduled the measurement, then selected the countertop from the fabrication shop and it was installed shortly after. The end result was fantastic."

"We are so thankful for the work done on our home. Jim did very high quality work. He did dry wall, tile, painting, ceilings, and trim. He also installed vanities, showers, toilets, and light fixtures. We are beyond happy with our home. He was also great at communicating and informing us of any issues. He never made any decisions without informing us first. We would highly recommend using him!"

Small jobs welcome

"Russ’s Home Repair is top notch! Prompt. Helpful. Great suggestions. Brilliant final product...our bathroom is gorgeous. And, most importantly, came in on budget. He even tackled a couple of unrelated repairs in the house just to help us out. Great guy. Great work."

"It was an honor to do business with this company. This is how a business should be run. They met all of my expectations from start to finish. The crew that worked on our kitchen were highly skilled craftsmen. No detail was too small for their attention. The end result is a beautiful kitchen."

"There h was in time and did a great job installing luxury vinyl tiles in two baths and the laundry room. Looks great except there is a gap between the floor and molding. Not sure how to fix that in case we have a water issue all over the floor reaching the edges."

"I was very pleased with Champion Windows, from the sales professional who assessed what I needed to the capable installer who put the windows into place. I learned a lot about window quality and feel I made the right choice for me. They are beautiful and the warranty is excellent. Great investment."

"We hired Jordan to tape and texture a wall after we had a new window installed. He also repaired our ceiling in two places. Then he painted our bathroom, kitchen and dining room. He did a great job and he did it in a timely manner. We will use Jordan again."

"TNT used subcontractors who did a fine job but were not licensed in my city. Inspector put a stop work on the job. Took almost a week to resume work due to the city and lack of communication between TNT and the subcontractor. Yesterday's re-inspection says we need a handrail on the deck. I have texted TNT and not heard back yet. Tad is a bit slow to respond when things go wrong. He takes a day or two to text but doesn't often call back. I would like to hear back on the same day or at least by the next day. The salesman said it would be a 3 day job. So far it's been 2 weeks. I'm hoping they install the rail and get it inspected and finished this week. That will be 3 weeks."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

To make a small bathroom look bigger, choose light-colored tiles in a medium- to large-format size. Lighter colors like white, cream, or light gray help open up a room, making it feel larger and more airy. While it may seem counterintuitive, small tiles can actually make a bathroom look smaller because the increased number of grout lines creates a busy pattern that visually shrinks the space. Instead, opt for medium- or large-format tiles for a more seamless, expansive appearance. For the best effect, pair your tiles with a matching or similarly colored grout to create a continuous surface that enhances the illusion of a larger area. Avoid dark colors, heavy patterns, and contrasting grout, as these can make the space feel more confined.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

Yes, unfortunately, it is normal for wall and floor tiles to crack, especially when you drop heavy items on tiled floors or place heavy objects on them. Tiles are also more susceptible to cracking when ceramic tiles designed for walls are installed on floors, as these are often not strong enough to handle heavy loads from foot traffic and furniture. Similarly, tiles that are installed incorrectly, lack adequate subflooring, or have other installation problems are prone to cracking. To avoid these problems and the inevitable repair and replacement costs they bring, always hire a professional for tile work and follow best practices for installation.
