"Extremely well. The house was a rental and the previous tenants had a Golden Retriever dog (long hair). The ducts were clogged with dog hair. The crew arrived on time and went right to work vacuuming every duct and the HVAC unit."

"Ben Fish showed up right on time, went up to my attic space for a visual inspection (something I should have done a long time ago but didn't) and measured the depth of insulation, appliance efficiency, energy loss from floor/walls/windows, and put it on a nice, easy-to-read spreadsheet, as well as throroughly explained everything.  There was absolutely no pressure to buy anything, as there had been in the past with HVAC repairmen.  One reason I wanted this audit was for the impartial 3rd party feedback, which is exactly what I got.

"I met Cris at a church event many years ago. I found out he worked with HVAC. From the moment I met him I knew he was full of integrity and honesty. In the HVAC industry this is sometimes not a priority. We have had both of our units at our home maintenance and repaired by Cris and/or somebody he recommended in his company that I could trust. He pays impeccable attention to detail. I have a type A personality. This is very important to me. He has never tried to up-sell me anything I did not need. I saw on Facebook; he was branching out onto his own venture at Solutions HVAC. I immediately reached out to him. I will follow him anywhere he goes. He is truly a wonderful person, very knowledgeable and he truly cares."

"It went well. D&F even matched the cost for our new water heater with one my spouse found that was priced lower. The technician was excellent and took time to explain all we needed to know about the new wh. Will definitely go through D&F next time we need any such service."

Small jobs welcome

"Had a great experience with getting a new AC system installed with George and his team! Technician and salesman were very friendly, knowledgeable and informative. They laid down floor tarps everywhere so nothing got on my hardwood floor and carpet, which i loved! Very friendly and accommodating of my young kids in the house during the whole experience. After the install there was a small problem with the system, they were back the very next morning with zero hesitation, trouble shooting the problem and fixed it in no time. Checked back in as well to make sure i was happy with everything, that's says a lot to me about this team and how they take care of their customers."

"When James came out to give me a bid I found that I had already met him at my old house where he had come out to fix a problem I had. He is one of the techs and knew his product very well from an install and maintenance stand point. He was able to figure out what I wanted when I wasn't sure myself and gave me a great bid on a system that is expandable for an additional unit in my garage I plan to turn into a living space. The other companies that came out to give bids were salespeople with out a thorough understanding of their product and their bids were thousands above what Miller offered on a product that I would not have been happy with. All being said, for any HVAC work in the future I will be going to Miller's Heating and air first and very possibly exclusively."

"I had a full HVAC system replaced by AM/PM Heating &Cooling. They are a great company to work with and did all the paperwork and even found some rebates I wasn't aware of. Their installers Ben and Austin were efficient and patient and answered my many questions. I feel after much research on my part that they gave me a good product with an above average rating at a price below what I was expecting to pay when compared to the 5 other bids I got."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Window ACs use 500 to 1,400 watts per hour of electricity, while mini-splits use 500 to 700 watts per hour. However, if you need to cool multiple zones in your house, your mini-split can use as much as 2,000 watts per hour. How often you run your system will impact how much electricity you use (and how much you pay per month).

Deciding whether to replace just the AC coil or the entire system depends on the age of your unit and the overall cost. Replacing a coil is less expensive than a full system replacement, but it can still be a pricey repair. If your HVAC system is relatively new and still under warranty, or if the replacement cost is significantly lower than a new system, replacing the coil can be a worthwhile investment that restores efficiency and extends the unit's life. However, for older systems (nearing the end of their 10-15 year lifespan) or those with extensive damage, it is often more cost-effective to replace the entire AC unit. Mismatched coils in an older system can lead to inefficiency and future breakdowns, so a full replacement ensures optimal performance and avoids further costly repairs.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

It depends on the size of the space you’re cooling down. If you’re looking for the most affordable way to cool an entire house over a long period of time, then central air will be more cost-effective. But when it comes to cooling down a couple of rooms or one floor, a window unit may be the cheaper option, with both a lower cost to install and less energy used to run.

Yes, ventless portable air conditioners exist, and not all standard portable air conditioners must be vented through a window.

Ventless portable units, often called evaporative coolers, do not have exhaust hoses. They use a water reservoir and a cooling pad to add moisture to the air, making it feel cooler. These units work best in dry climates because humid areas cannot absorb much additional moisture.

For standard portable air conditioners that do require venting, a window is not the only option; they can also be vented through a door, wall, or ceiling. However, it is essential to vent these units properly. Running a standard portable AC without venting it is counterproductive because it needs to expel heat to cool the room. Failing to do so will only increase the room's temperature.
