"Cris worked hard to repair our existing mismatched heat pump system. Once it was working again we determined that a replacement system would be the best route going forward. He did a fine job installing the new Goodman heat pump in this old house. It works well, and is very quiet. I was impressed with his attention to detail with all of his work. The install took several days, yet at the end of each day he cleaned up his worksite thereby making living through this disruption quite liveable. I have no problem recommending Solutions HVAC to anyone searching for a reputable business for their heating and air conditioning needs."

"We needed several technicians to come out for different parts of our projects. All were very friendly and helpful, stayed in constant communication as to the status and next steps, and did an excellent job! Will definitely use them again for projects in the future."

"Super. Chad responded quickly. He was knowledgeable in his work and respectful of my house, cleaning up after all the work was accomplished. I was amazed by the swiftness and thoroughness of his work. Best of all heating companies I have hired through the years. If the bids I received, his was in the mid-range and the only one that included an electrician as part of the bid. Highly recommend Sterling."

"From the beginning I was being put on the run around from Casey about coming out and looking at my unit. He gave the excuse that he was sick more than once. When he did finally come out to give the diagnostic, he did not have all of the correct equipment to fix the unit at that time. He was supposed to be here Friday at noon and he called about 1:30 pm and said they would not be here until around 3-3:30 pm. I did not hear anything back from anyone until about 6:30 pm that same evening, his partner called thinking we may have been in bed so he called us. He went ahead and started working on the system right away. Casey was supposed to be right behind him, but he did not show, when he called him to see where he was, he said he was not going to make it, he was at a restaurant on a date. I requested a receipt from Casey on Saturday and he said he would follow up with me on Monday. He ended up putting an invoice in my mailbox. I had already paid the other guy directly for the services he gave me that day and I paid for my Big Deal before any of this started for the diagnostic call. The other gentleman did a great job with the actual work. I just do not understand why I am being double billed."

"Jim with North Alabama Technical Services removed some items from my computer so that I could send emails and attend to items I needed to address that day. As planned, the next day he thoroughly cleaned my computer, he also made helpful suggestions while working on my computer. I would call him again if needed and I thought the fee was reasonable."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

While "dry" mode on your AC can help reduce humidity levels to some extent, it may not be as effective as a dedicated dehumidifier, especially in areas with extremely high humidity or larger spaces. Dehumidifiers are specifically designed to remove moisture from the air more efficiently, making them a better choice for tackling persistent humidity issues.

Your heating and cooling systems cost you the most on your electric bill and make up 50% of your bill on average. Your washing machine, dryer, oven, and stove contribute significantly to your electric bill as well. Lights, fans, and smaller electronics add up, but aren’t the biggest energy consumers. You can reduce your power usage by setting optimal temperatures on your thermostat and investing in energy-efficient appliances.

No, you don’t need a ductless unit in every room. Ductless AC units don't work the way that window units do, where the air doesn't travel outside that room. The indoor air handlers all attach to the outdoor condenser. While the air doesn't travel the way that traditional ductwork would, the ductless AC units create zones so that one part of the home can be cooler than another. They can spread effectively enough that indoor units only need to be placed in main living areas.

Common signs of insufficient return air include uneven temperatures, with some parts of your home feeling hotter or colder than others, and noticeable differences in air pressure between rooms. You might also observe that more air is blowing in rooms closer to the AC unit. Leaky air ducts can also be a related issue or clue.
