"Pacific Arboriculture is so professional! From the first inspection, to the thorough written bid, to the scheduling and communication, and through to the execution of the contracted work, management and crew conducted themselves with absolute professionalism. Knowledgeable. As ISA-certified arborists, they knew all about my treesâ health and the best pruning and maintenance for the continued well-being, in spite of the treesâ problems. They guided me in making tree care decisions, putting my mind at ease by quelling potential hazards. Capable. You should see these guys climb trees! I have incredible respect for their agility, and their ability to make decisions when high up in the limbs, aiming for and achieving the right results. Conscientious. Every one of them were courteous, respectful and a pleasure to work with. Before they left, they cleaned up every limb and leaf, leaving my property in pristine condition. Appropriately-priced. I received a half-dozen recommendations and bids before making my choice. Pacific Arboriculture was the best choice for the above reasons, AND their pricing was appropriate and affordable. With my half-acre, heavily-treed property, I have finally found my forever arborists. I highly recommend them."

"Mark was fantastic. He came out for a quote and provided a very competitive bid, as well as some advice on options regarding whether to keep certain trees or not. The service was scheduled quickly. Mark and his crew came on time, and performed the work as agreed upon. I was not able to be there during the job, but it was not an issue. Mark told me to just check afterwards that what was promised, was done - and then to call back to handle the payment. Everything went smoothly, and I would highly recommend Bushman Tree Service."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

There are many signs that a tree is diseased or dying, and if you suspect that’s the case, you should call an arborist immediately. You might notice rot or fungus on the trunk or that the tree is beginning to lean to one side. Brittle branches or signs of root damage are other indicators that a tree is in trouble. If the tree is dying, it might be time to cut the tree down so it doesn’t fall.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

It depends on the problem, the affected part of the tree, the risk of the pathogen spreading, and the overall health of your tree. Many diseases, fungal infections, and insect infestations can be successfully treated, especially if the issue is only in a few branches. However, if a disease is too widespread, too severe, too easily spread, or in the roots, the tree will likely need to be removed.

Early signs that a tree is struggling include premature leaf shedding and lesions or other strange markings. Peeling bark, dead or rotten branches on the ground, and a conspicuous lack of leaves can all be signs that a tree has started to die. By the time a tree starts leaning, it’s usually too far gone to save.
