"The team at Powers Chimney & Masonry did a fantastic job on our fireplace. We had an incredible amount of sticks jammed in our chimney, probably from the squirrels or birds. It was quite alarming. They came in the morning and dismantled the back of our fireplace, removed all of the debris and did a rebuild and were finished in the early afternoon. The fireplace looks perfect and we can't wait for the mortar to cure so we can enjoy a fire. I really appreciated their honesty and communication style. No pressure or pushy sales techniques. I will definitely call them next time I need fireplace or chimney work."

"Chimney building is very hard work! The work was done over 1 week - I thought it would take more time. They were finished on Friday, after a Monday start, as promised. Could not have asked for more."

Customers say: Quick response

"Very knowledgeable about fire codes. I wanted to do something that I didn't know was not per code. A different contractor recommended this action. As soon as I discussed my plan with Isaac, he told me it was not per code. They did a great job repairing and resurfacing our fireplace. They also repaired the mortar on both of our chimneys. Great work. Friendly crew."

"We were very impressed with the level of knowledge of Michel and professionalism assessing the state of our old fireplace. We moved to our home almost 7 years ago and never were able to use the fireplace. It pulled air and smoke inside the living room when we ignited it. So, we were in need of good advice. He certified the fireplace and told us about the performance. advantage, disadvantages and characteristics. I was happy to have finally the fireplace ready to fire up in cold nights. Please do not be nave trying to cleaning old fireplaces by yourself! unless you are knowledgeable enough."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Home insurance prices depend on where you live and the individual insurance company's policies. Some insurers charge a flat fee for fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, which is often a few hundred dollars per year. Other insurers base this fee on a percentage of your annual premium. You may want to check your current or prospective policy before beginning this project.

Once your ashes have fully cooled, you can place them in a heavy-duty trash bag and put them into the bin with your normal trash. If you have wood ash, you can add the ash to your composting pile or sprinkle it over your grass or plants directly for added nutrients.

DIY is not recommended due to safety and venting requirements. Professional installation ensures proper operation and compliance with codes.

You shouldn’t remove a fireplace yourself. Before beginning this job, you’d need to know whether or not you have a load-bearing fireplace. To do that, you’d need help from a structural engineer. Plus, fireplace removals require permits and often involve working with gas lines or electricity, which can be dangerous. For all of these reasons, it’s best to hire a pro for this project.

Most cleanings take 1-3 hours, but extensive soot buildup or liner damage may require additional time.
