One major drawback of a concrete tile roof is that the material is heavier than most other roofing materials, so there’s a good chance you’ll need structural reinforcements for your home before you can install the roofing material. Concrete tile roofs are also twice as expensive as asphalt shingle roofs, so even though they last much longer, you’ll see higher up-front costs and lower overall value from concrete roof tiles.
Updating your backsplash without removing the tile is possible in a couple of different ways. First, you can remove the old grout and replace it with new grout to give your backsplash a fresh look. You can also change the grout color, which can have a surprisingly large impact on the final appearance of the backsplash. Finally, you can paint the original tile to totally change the look of the backsplash without removing it.
You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).
Per the International Code Council, walk-in shower floors should have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot (or a 2% slope) towards the drain. The slope should be no steeper than 1/2-inch per foot (or a 4% slope). This helps safely direct water into the drain rather than all over your bathroom.
The tile trim you use will depend on a few factors, including design preferences, budget, and whether the project is DIY or not. You might choose plastic trim if you want an easier DIY job that is more budget-friendly. There are also more color options available in plastic.
