"David and his team were very professional and the work they did was excellent---we could tell the difference the next day. The temperature on the 2nd floor is several degree lower than before due to the new insulation and feels much more comfortable. David has solid knowledge regarding insulation and he explains things clearly. Definitely would recommend David and Prudent Homes to my friends and neighbors."

"Comfenergy was very professional thorough from the in-person estimate thru installation. Even though we didnt have a full energy audit, they still go over your entire home and tell you what should and what needs to be done. Some of the little things we did ourselves, or had our handyman. Then Comfenergy did the big part, seal and insulate the attic. We still had late 80's insulation and never a sealing done. It ended up being over an 8 hour project. They were not the cheapest estimate, but definitely the most in-depth review and recommendations provided. The two man team that did the actual work were very professional, showed us the work as the progressed, and good clean up job after all was done."

"After my call to Discount Energy Services, I knew who was coming and when to evaluate my attic insulation. The estimate was prepared on-site with pricing. The workers arrived and knew exactly what they were to accomplish, which they confirmed with me. They prepared the entire path with clean drop cloths and created a plastic drape around my attic stairs. The foreman was glad to explain any aspect of the procedure. My attic was upgraded to R-49 and the difference is notable."

"Jason and Alex were on time and the job went well. Completed in approximately 5 hours. Jason explained why some equipment differed from the contract (provided part fit better into existing duct work). Jason noted that the internal components were the same. My wife and I purchased a mid priced unit. The price below reflects an approximate cost. The sales representative (Randy) wanted us to decide relatively quickly noting that now was a slower time for their crews. Working with Scott, Randy adjusted the quote. We had already received one other quote (liked the rep there) so we knew the Rescue Rooter proposal was competitive (even if we did not get truly a break). Our existing system was failing so we wanted to move forward. Jason and Alex explained what needed to be done to maintain the system and how to work the new thermostat. We purchased through Home Depot."

"Very pleased with them. Ray came out to do the estimate and he gave a good presentation and explained everything very well. Eli was the project manager and it was very easy to communicate with both of them. We had a minor change in material and it was done without hassle. We have a very steep roof and the roofers were all wearing a harness for safety. Replacing the roof took 2 1/2 days. They covered everything with tarp the first two days but some tiles managed to make black streaks on the patio and they send a crew out to clean it up. A new crew came out to replace the gutters and they too did a great job. Sunshine is very easy to work with and did a great job. I would be happy to recommend them to my neighbors"

"When Ted, the owner, came out to give us a free estimate, he went through all the options for insulation based on quality and price point. We settled on reflective insulation. The original estimate was for two-days' worth of labor to insulate the attic of our 2500 sq. ft. 1940s house. They did the work in one day, and the final bill came out to below the estimate! We are very happy with the results, and I would use them again. In particular, I really like working with their office manager, Nancy: she is sweet, responsive, and tries to accommodate your schedule, which is a huge plus for me."

"We had a horrendous situation with a basement floor installation that went wrong leaving our house full of fumes, and a week later we discovered our basement was contaminated by asbestos in the process.  When we called Bill and Contractors Unlimited, they were extremely responsive.  Although other companies gave us bids, Bill was able to work his schedule to fit us in weeks sooner than the others.  Although the cost was a bit more, that saved us money because we were displaced and could not even go into our house because of the fumes.  CU set up negative air machines to replace the air, they followed asbestos abatement laws, they cleaned every item that could be salvaged in our house.  They even saved more than we thought which really reduced our overall expense.  Bill and his team were extremely professional, friendly, helpful, and really went out of their way to ease our stress from this situation.  At the end of their process, Bill arranged for a air quality inspection which we happily passed - able to return home.  I would gladly recommend Contractors Unlimited for asbestos abatement.  I just wish we had called them before the floor guys  created such a disaster.  Thank you Bill!

"
Let me start this review by saying we are very picky customers.  We have actually needed our bath remodeled for close to a year and did not get it done because we could not find a contractor who we could trust to complete the project to our specifications.  We ended up putting in our own cabinets.  But we do not know how to tile so we called TLG.

TLG put in a new tub, heated flooring, tiled the floor and tub area.  TLG installed a new window (where there was not a window before) and finished the project by painting the room.

TLG did a wonderful job.  The workmen actually smoothed out the ceiling before they began any other work.  This was not brought up in the original contract and we appreciated the fact that they saw this needed to be done and they just did it.  The tile looks beautiful.  The heated floor works wonderfully.  Most of the other contractors did not want to put in a heated floor and TLG had no problem with it.  Not sure why most others won't do that but others said they have not installed them in other homes.  TLG has installed them and Todd (the owner) said he was not sure why others were not since it is not a huge deal.  The new window lets in tons of light.

I would have given TLG a prefect score of A+ except for one issue we did have.  The workers did not clean up at the end of the job as well as they could have.  There was still some dust that needed cleaning up and the nails in the wall where they put up a tarp to stop the dust.  We told Todd about these things and he said he would speak with the workers about this.  If this little bit of clean up would have been done it would have been a perfect score.....and trust me, we do not give out perfect scores easily.  The fact that TLG earned an A is extraordinary.

Over all we were very happy with TLG and my brother is in the process of having them put in tile in his bathroom.  When it is time for us to get new tile for our second bath we will call TLG tile."

FAQs for insulation service projects in Occoquan, VA

When choosing a professional insulation installer, consider asking these questions to determine the best fit.

  • Will you address air leaks in my house?

  • Can you provide an R-value (heat resistance) fact sheet?

  • What kind of insulation will work best for my home?

  • How do you handle signs of a water leak?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Can you provide customer references?

The best type of insulation for your home depends on what you need, so the answer will depend on your specific situation. If you’re building a house, structural panels are easy to install during the building process in addition to being the most energy efficient type. If you live in a warm climate, reflective insulation may benefit you more as it costs less than other insulation types. And for standard attics, loose-fill, spray foam, or blown-in insulation work well.

If you plan to heat or cool your garage, you’ll need to insulate the garage ceiling. Insulating your garage ceiling will make your garage much more energy efficient and save on heating and cooling costs. Not only does insulation make your garage more energy efficient, it helps reduce noise and can extend the life of your garage roof. You can use fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool, or spray foam insulation for this project.

In some cases, you may not have enough insulation to properly regulate your home’s temperature. Watch for a few signs your home needs more insulation, such as:

  • High heating and cooling bills

  • Uncomfortable room temperatures

  • Ice dams on the edge of your roof

  • Roof leaks

  • Cold floors and walls

  • Freezing pipes

  • Temperature fluctuations

  • Visibly low insulation

  • Noise problems

  • Pest problems

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the insulation type, amount, and your attic’s accessibility. Additional cost factors include sealing air leaks, removal or replacement of insulation, and inspections. Types of insulation include:

  • Blown-in: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Spray foam: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Batt: $2–$4 per square foot

  • Structural insulated panels: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50 per square foot
