"As with a lot of homeowners, we were scared stiff about starting a home remodeling project after all of the horror stories we had heard from friends. We were pushed off the edge by a master shower that stopped working and could not be repaired without tearing up the walls. We dove in after reading great reviews about VKB and totally lucked out by getting matched up with Calvin when we walked into the store. From start to finish this has been an amazing experience starting with the design phase, to demolition, construction, and final walk through. Calvin was perfect for us. He first asked us to collect pictures of bathrooms while he took meticulous measurements of our space. He then held our hands through what he called an “organic process” of designing our dream bath. What was really fantastic was when we had to choose tile, he walked us next door to the humongous tile store (where he was previously the store manager!) and smoothly guided us through one of the hardest choices to make with the perfect recommendations. The project was then handed to Al, the construction manager, and again we totally lucked out. I highly recommend this team of Calvin and Al. The construction phase went super smoothly. The workers are extremely clean and respectful. Everyday they lay down clean tarps and cover the carpet they are walking on with sticky plastic sheets. (We have white carpet upstairs and after they were done and a quick vacuum it is absolutely good as new!) Demo day was painless, no dumpster... just hand carried away in a truck. Construction happened pretty much daily from 8-4. We didn’t have to be home when the team was here and we felt absolutely comfortable leaving them home unsupervised. I am an orthopedic surgeon so I’m very precise about measurements. Each night I would sneak into the bathroom and measure everything, and I’m telling you all of the measurements were spot on! Also of note, they taped up two plastic sheet barrier walls between the master bedroom and bath which left the bedroom perfectly clean and livable with zero dust. We slept in our own master bed during the whole master bath remodel. In the end the project took one week longer than expected (this happened over Xmas holiday) and right on budget with no HGTV surprises. Al kept in close touch throughout the project and would text back immediately whenever we texted him with a question. Jose was also incredible during the entire remodel. We absolutely love our new bathroom and we honestly can’t think of any choice that we would change looking back. After this fantastic experience we are already planning our kitchen remodel with VKB next year. I will absolutely insist on my same team of Calvin, Al, and Jose. I have no fear of my next remodeling project"

two separate rooms with a french door. Justin was prompt with an
estimate and the work was done on time. The wall was built, the french
doors installed and everything painted properly. There was an issue with
the placement of the doorknobs (due to the uneven floors in the house)
and Justin came by a few days later and corrected the problem. We were
very satisfied with the work and we are likely to use this contractor
again in the future.

"My second time using BK Contracting and I couldn't be happier. Just bought a single family home in Leesburg as an investment property. Bret's team remodeled the kitchen (installed all new appliances, fixed some plumbing and replaced the linoleum floor with tile). The kitchen looks absolutely amazing with the stainless steel appliances and the high quality floor. 

He also totally overhauled two bathrooms including the entire floor with tiles, replaced all the vanities, toilets, mirrors and lights. Basically, two whole new bathrooms. 

The basement had some shoddy work to be repaired. There were entire dry walls missing and all sorts of weird electrical cabling. Bret's team fixed all of it and honestly, it looks about as different as it gets.

All the work was completed in less than 3 weeks and I was able to place the home on time. Consequently, the home was leased out in less than 12 days to a new tenant and I could not be happier.

Best of all, I had to text Bret at odd hours on a Sunday with a broken thermostat / heater issue, and he promptly responded with valuable advice on what the problem was and how to mitigate it. Not sure who else would have given me free advice on a Sunday.

Overall, a huge fan of BK contracting. I had a flooding in my personal home earlier in 2015 and BK Contracts totally rebuilt my basement (insurance claim) and it looks so much better than before.

Bret's a real gentleman and a man of his word. He has always stayed very close or below his budget estimates and I know I will be using him for future renovations of my investment properties.

"Dave is absolutely terrific.  This is the 4th time I have used him for re-modeling work and I was not disappointed.  His workmanship is first rate.  He pays meticulous attention to detail, which is especially important in tiling work.  His carpentry work is equally well done.  He is very innovative and can offer excellent suggestions on how to improve your basic re-modeling concepts.  He is totally responsive to the customer.  He will do whatever you want him to do and change whatever you want him to change.  He does not argue with you or try to make you feel like you're an idiot when you ask a question or propose an idea (like some contractors and most car mechanics).  He tries to figure out how to make what you want happen.  He is extremely knowledgeable about the full scope of his profession, including all code requirements.  He does not cut corners and is just as concerned about getting the stuff you don't see right as he is about getting the stuff you see right.  He is totally honest and up front about all his work and his costs.  The cost of this particular project (or projects) did increase but that was because the project evolved.  He was completely up-front about costs as the project evolved.  In some cases the costs increased because he found rotting pipes behind the walls (shoddy materials used by the builder) and other hidden problems.  He showed me those problems and explained the costs in both material and time.  He is completely trustworthy.  I had no qualms about giving him the ability to let himself into my house and work there alone.  I have never had a problem.  He is very careful about cleaning up after himself too.  Despite the major work being done my house was still livable and presentable enough for me to have guests.  Dave is a one-man contractor show which allows him to be totally flexible in meeting your needs, to give you a great price and to work with a focus on quality and getting the job done right rather than paying attention to a clock or the calendar.  The only drawback with Dave being a one-man show is that he has no real back-up.  If he gets sick or his truck breaks down or he has to deal with a family issue, there is no one to come and substitute for him.  So there is a need for his customers to be flexible when working with him.  Everything always gets done and it always gets done to perfection but, depending on the type of job it is, it may take longer than either you or Dave originally planned.  He is also sometimes hard to get in touch with because he's running in so many directions.  Persistence pays off though.  That said, if you want a contractor who is totally trustworthy and does absolutely superior work at an excellent price, there is no better guy to call than Dave.  I will definitely continue to use him for any home remodeling needs.

"Absolutely excellent, beautiful new kitchen! Thomas Martins delivered on what we wanted in terms of a total kitchen flip. We have a beautiful new gourmet kitchen that looks like it belongs in an HGTV show. The workmanship is top notch. This kitchen is going to be at the center of decades of dinners and memories. Also there was a water leak above the kitchen. He identified the source of the leak as a poorly constructed custom shower. He gave us a VERY reasonable quote and repaired the shower in the same time window as the kitchen. Something you should know before booking. The company is father and son and those are the only guys working. So with that comes some considerations: - they had to outsource a structural drawing and structural work in order to remove a load bearing wall. The company they outsourced it to took their sweet time getting the engineering drawing done. This pushed the project back by a few unexpected weeks. Point is, if your job is complicated, there might be some outsourcing required which can lead to delays beyond your or Thomas Martins' control - as they are busy with many jobs and do not have a front office with a dedicated secretary, it will benefit you to be proactive in communication. But with the small company also comes some really great pros: - no crew. The only people working on your project are father and son. They are knowledgeable. And I've had work done with crews where the crewmen make a mistake and do not report it to the boss. I have to call it out in that case. No such with Thomas Martins. No crew means more accountability - no designer making promises they cannot fulfill. With some of the larger companies, you work with a dedicated designer who acts as an intermediary between you and the actual project manager. The problem with this model is the project manager understands the house infrastructure and the limitations which you must work around for your project. Every project has inherent limitations given the design and structure of the house. The designer generally does not understand these concerns. Since Thomas Martins is the actual guy hitting the hammer and rerouting the plumbing, he lays out what limitations you have to work with rather than make promises that cannot be realistically fulfilled - lower price. Without the overhead of a front office and several crews and specialists, the price point is far more reasonable than others - they only take on one big job at a time. They may work a half day job here and there whilst managing a huge kitchen or bathroom overhaul. But they will not be actively working on two different major jobs. The only natural conclusion to doing this is delays on two different jobs. So if you book them for a large job, know that you have their undivided attention. Again to reiterate. Our kitchen is gorgeous. The workmanship is top notch. I am so glad we booked Thomas Martins and I would recommend him for a kitchen job! Also. He has a great sense of humor too."
