We were very happy with the way both bathrooms turned out, though it was not easy having 2 bathrooms out of commission for a month. Despite drop cloths being used there was lots of dust. The first couple of days were nerve wracking because during the demolition phase, we ran into unplanned plumbing and electrical issues, that brought about additional expenses. My wife and I work long days, so we were not there when the work was being done. We would see the daily progress and talk to Dave every day about the day's events. During the course of the month our living room became a bathroom warehouse, vanities, toilets, lights, tile, grout etc taking up space.

I am adding this segment 5 months after the bathroom install and my wife and I could not be happier with our bathrooms. I would definitely use Dave again if we remodel our other bathroom.

Kdk did a great job renovating our half bath into a full handicap bathroom. They installed a handicap toliet and shower, tile, flooring, lights. It has been great for my father in law who had a very hard time getting up and down the stairs to take a shower. He was very professional, outgoing, and finished in a timely manner. It was a lot of work but they did excellent work. I am very satisfied with the work and I am looking forward to working with them for future renovations.

The owner and helper were very professional. They worked with us on payments, and completed the job earlier than expected. They were very professional and take pride in what they do. We are already working on getting pricing to remodel the rest of the house! I would highly recommend using KDK in the future!!

He is a slime ball. Basically, I agreed to give him deposit and he gave me long delays and he basically said he wasn't coming back until I pay him the full amount because he had somebody from another job not paying. So, he couldn't afford to buy my materials, I had to threaten to take him to court.  He left it unfinished as well. It took him a year basically to come and I mean it took him forever. He threatened me. I'm a single mom and he was threatening me and all sorts of stuff. It was the worst experience in my life.  I ended up paying him probably at least ten grand more than what we had agreed and kicking him out of the house before the job was done, I just couldn't be held hostage anymore and he didn't finish the job.  He didn't show up on time.  He quoted one price and I ended up almost paying twice that amount.
Response from KDK Home Improvements LLC
"Ms. [Member Name Removed] - You hired KDK to finish your basement 12/11/2013; the signed contract was satisfied and paid in full 5/1/2014. Since this contract, you have employed my electrician and also my brother to complete structural concerns you had with your home. At no time have you requested my services since for as you selected in your review; a kitchen or a bathroom. I have copies of the contract and photos of your finished basement, if you would like to review them. At no time have you contacted me via phone or email since May 2014 for any services or to discuss any concerns. I feel this review is misguided towards my company. Your statements that I required payment in full is false, as you can see on the contract you signed in 2013, my payment structure is stated clearly that I required 1/3 up front and you agreed. I am also concerned that you made a statement that I took over a year, when clearly the contract was signed by you in 12/2013 and finished 5/2014 (completed in 6 months). Again, I have the contracts and the photos of your completed basement should you like me to forward them to you for reference. This contact has been satisfied well over 2.5 years ago.. I am respectfully asking you to remove this review, as it is not reflective of my business with you in 2014 and is a misguided understanding that you may have had with another contractor with which you may have hired for your kitchen. It went very well.  This job took much longer than anticipated, a few unexpected problems were encountered along the way that slowed it down.  The ordering of materials took longer than anticipated and at times we were waiting for those items to arrive.  This was not the contractor's fault though.  The biggest slow-down was the shower glass installation, which KDK was not responsible for.  What was expected to take 2 weeks took 2 months for the shower installation, and Dave was constantly checking with us to see if the shower had been completed during the wait for the glass to arrive.

The biggest problem, as another person has mentioned, is that this is a very small work crew, a two man team and if one man is down for some reason things slow down significantly.  The workmanship was superb, and no attention to detail is spared, very nice craftsmanship.
Cost was kept to the contracted amount.  We added in an item at the last minute and received a very fair cost for this additional work.
Highly recommend!

We could not be happier with the way the project was executed, from the initial planning to the final product.  KDK was very responsive to our ideas, but also honest enough to let us know when there was a better way to accomplish what we wanted done. We have very unpredictable schedules, and KDK was always willing to accommodate us.  They were neat and always cleaned up after themselves.  During the "planned" project, we made several additional requests, which they were were happy to work into their schedule, even though it required juggling their schedules, as they had additional clients to accommodate.  Bottom line, the pricing was more than fair, the quality and craftsmanship of the work was excellent, and the provider was genuine and professional.

Dave responded to our request for an estimate immediately.  He was at our house the next day.  We waited for other bids to come in and it was an easy decision to go with KDK.
Dave did excellent work, exactly what we asked him to do, and even went a bit above and beyond as the bathroom fan we bought involved more work than was in the original contract.
KDK was professional, took care of my house during the project (things like cleaning up at the end of each day, and laying down protection for my carpets and floors from the outside all the way to the project bathroom).  He always made sure tools and project items that could be dangerous for my young child were taken care of and out of the way when not being used.
We had a few minor bumps with schedules, his and ours.
Overall, I am very thankful we found KDK on Angie's List and would happily use him again.

Due to damage to the kitchen floor and a cabinet in my home, I needed to have a new floor installed. I also decided to have the flooring in the adjacent dining room and a nearby powder room replaced while having the work done. I chose KDK Home Improvements after getting work estimates from three different contractors. When he visited to provide an estimate, Dave was polite, answered all my questions, and gave helpful suggestions about the work. Among the contractors that I contacted, Dave was the best at providing the information I wanted without being pushy. His pricing was competitive with the others, but his demeanor and customer service helped me to come to an easy decision to choose KDK.
Once work began, Dave and his crew were hard working, professional and courteous. The quality of their work was excellent, and Dave was diligent about keeping me and my wife informed about his progress. Once the old, damaged floor was removed in the kitchen, it was discovered that there was damage to the subfloor and a portion of the wall that extended beyond our expectation. Dave was quick to provide an additional estimate on the new work and complete the repairs. Throughout the project I was satisfied that the work was being completed in a timely fashion. Dave was always available via phone and email. On completion of the project, the work and prep areas were thoroughly cleaned by Dave and his crew.
Should I need further work on other areas of the house, I will definitely contact KDK Home Improvements again.

Dave is absolutely terrific.  This is the 4th time I have used him for re-modeling work and I was not disappointed.  His workmanship is first rate.  He pays meticulous attention to detail, which is especially important in tiling work.  His carpentry work is equally well done.  He is very innovative and can offer excellent suggestions on how to improve your basic re-modeling concepts.  He is totally responsive to the customer.  He will do whatever you want him to do and change whatever you want him to change.  He does not argue with you or try to make you feel like you're an idiot when you ask a question or propose an idea (like some contractors and most car mechanics).  He tries to figure out how to make what you want happen.  He is extremely knowledgeable about the full scope of his profession, including all code requirements.  He does not cut corners and is just as concerned about getting the stuff you don't see right as he is about getting the stuff you see right.  He is totally honest and up front about all his work and his costs.  The cost of this particular project (or projects) did increase but that was because the project evolved.  He was completely up-front about costs as the project evolved.  In some cases the costs increased because he found rotting pipes behind the walls (shoddy materials used by the builder) and other hidden problems.  He showed me those problems and explained the costs in both material and time.  He is completely trustworthy.  I had no qualms about giving him the ability to let himself into my house and work there alone.  I have never had a problem.  He is very careful about cleaning up after himself too.  Despite the major work being done my house was still livable and presentable enough for me to have guests.  Dave is a one-man contractor show which allows him to be totally flexible in meeting your needs, to give you a great price and to work with a focus on quality and getting the job done right rather than paying attention to a clock or the calendar.  The only drawback with Dave being a one-man show is that he has no real back-up.  If he gets sick or his truck breaks down or he has to deal with a family issue, there is no one to come and substitute for him.  So there is a need for his customers to be flexible when working with him.  Everything always gets done and it always gets done to perfection but, depending on the type of job it is, it may take longer than either you or Dave originally planned.  He is also sometimes hard to get in touch with because he's running in so many directions.  Persistence pays off though.  That said, if you want a contractor who is totally trustworthy and does absolutely superior work at an excellent price, there is no better guy to call than Dave.  I will definitely continue to use him for any home remodeling needs.

He did an excellent job and the both bathrooms look beautiful. Dave is exceptionally friendly, flexible, and fair. He did everything he could to accommodate our wishes, including changes we requested during the job. When we encountered rot and bugs in the walls and floor, he waited for the exterminator to complete his work; then Dave repaired the damage. When plumbing and electrical had to be relocated to accommodate new fixtures, no problem - Dave just rolled with the punches. Dave does not mark up any supplies or materials. I feel very sure that anybody who uses KDK will get a very fair deal and work accomplished to the customer's specifications and desires. Dave could not be easier to work with. Working with contractors can be very stressful, but working with Dave Kamerude was not.

Our 28 year old home was in dire need of updated bathrooms and we contacted KDK Home Improvements through researching of Angie's List.  Our planned bath updates snowballed to include additional work which wasn't in the initial plan, but was very obviously needed as we progressed.  Dave Kammerude was very accomodating and understanding with each phase and introduced us to very competent plumber(Tommy Anglin), electrician (Mike Renfro) and carpenter (which happens to be his brother Jeff Heflin of New Shelter Construction).  All of these guys were a pleasure to work with and even they, along with Dave, have put in weekend days to get the job complete to accomodate our schedules and the completion of this major renovation project.  Jeff of New Shelter Construction installed new tongue and groove ceiling and skylights in our great room, wood paneling in our hallway and installed new windows and doors and wood flooring.  He did an excellent job and was very fast in completing each job.  Our thanks to Dave for introducing us to Jeff  and Tommy and Mike, too.  Dave did a beautiful job of resealing our logs in the great room of our home after he and Jeff used a "cornblaster" to remove years of dirt and dust to reveal beautiful wood underneath. Our project is nearing completion after three months of work and Dave has been an excellent communicator throughout the whole process. He will be coming back to do a kitchen backsplash and some additional exterior painting.  He went the extra mile in procuring materials and researching so that our home looks great!  We will recommend and  use him in the future.

Dave from KDK Home Improvement does excellent work. He's punctual and trustworthy. He easily relayed information as to price of total project and progress of project on a daily basis. Dave completed the project on the date he quoted for completion. Dave cleaned up every day after his work was completed. The bathroom tile work is excellent. The entire project was well worth the money spent. I will recommend Dave and KDK to my friends and will use them again in the future for any projects. My overall experience was excellent- Thanks for the good work Dave and KDK!!

Dave was great. He returned my initial call within 24 hours and arrived on time to provide an estimate. He walked me through the process and counseled that you never know what you'll find once things start coming apart, but he would charge me a straight fee for a simple install, but if additional materials or time were needed to address a problem or problem(s), he would talk with me before proceeding. I ordered the door and called when it was delivered. Dave was able to fit me into his schedule within a week. On the day of isntallation, Dave's brother joined him. They were great. On time, very personable. The entire process was done within 4 hours. Everything cleaned up and I am still admiring my new door. The new door had been delivered without the new handle and deadbolt so Dave installed the old fixtures until the new set could be delivered. He returned 2 weeks later and installed the new handle and deadbolt. Dave is knowledgeable and helpful and he works quickly and with professional know-how. II will definitely be calling him again for other home improvement jobs.

KDK Home Improvements took my home which had been a foreclosure and was completely trashed and neglected, and turned it into a beautiful, functional, clean and satisfying living space. This was my first time hiring a contractor and it was a big job, so I was pretty paranoid about finding an honest contractor and about not having a crew of day laborers in my house. I put my job listing on the internet and KDK owner Dave Kammerude replied. Part of the reason I had Dave quote the job was that he had a picture of himself with his wife and children on his website. That made me feel that he was likely to be an honest guy who would not skip town with my money. When I met Dave he struck me as honest and easy to communicate with. He also gave me the best price of the five total contractors who quoted the job for me, and only needed about 15% of the total job cost to get started, whereas other contractors had asked for as much as 75%. The job was his. This was an extensive job (see above), so I saw Dave every day for some time. He and his one assistant did all the work themselves, except for some of the electrical work and refinishing some of the pre-existing hardwood floors. Dave's assistant was friendly and trustworthy as well, so I felt comfortable with both Dave and his assistant being in my house. They even walked my dogs several times for me when I got stuck at work. They were both punctual and hard-working. I also learned a lot from Dave as he would walk me through what was being done at each phase of the job, showing me what he was finding as he worked his way through the house, giving me options on how to proceed when applicable, and giving me his opinion on the best way to do things. Dave has a strong desire to do things "the right way" and does not cut corners. There were several occassions where he actually did extra work outside of our contract for free, just to make sure everything was the way it should be. I feel that Dave did a great job with every aspect of my remodel and I am extremely happy with the finished product (so happy in fact that I have already hired Dave again to work on another property). Here are a few particular parts of the job where I thought Dave went above and beyond: My diagonal-pattern tile backsplash in the kitchen looks fantastic. I get comments on it all the time. I have a friend in the construction trades who came over one day and said, word for word, "wow, whoever installed this storm door did a really good job". (Apparently storm doors are notoriously difficult to install correctly.) Dave seemlessly integrated brand new hardwood flooring with 40 year old hardwood flooring. It is an exact match; I literally cannot tell where the old flooring stops and the new flooring starts, and it is a natural floor with no stain, just polyurethane! Lastly I wanted to add that Dave lent me some design expertise and advice on this job which really helped. Being a single guy I was not secure that I would pick out the right tile, fixtures, etc., to make my house look good. Dave really stepped up to the plate and provided some great recommendations, and all the women who have visited since the job ended have loved what we did with the kitchens, bathrooms, etc.
