"I couldn't be happier with the job LUX Foundation Solutions did to resolve my basement flooding issue. I requested a list of basement repair professional on Home Advisor and LUX Foundation Repair was the first of three to respond to the request. I scheduled an appointment for LUX to give me a quote on what it would take to resolve my basement flooding. Keagan arrived at the scheduled time and I described the flooding issue. It would require replacing the basement stairwell drain, sump pump and connecting pipe. We also discussed putting french drain and a larger pad at the top of the stairs to close a gap between the foundation and stairs that allowed water to channel into the stairwell. Keagan was upfront about how and when the job would be scheduled. I was contacted when the job was initially scheduled and kept informed on any changes as the start date. Adam and Ace arrived the date specified and went right to work. They were professional, knowledgeable and answered all questions I had. They were a pleasure to work with. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a foundation repair professional."

"They did an excellent job of waterproofing our foundation, burying downspouts, and replacing a patio to guarantee drainage away from the house. Most of our interaction was with the crew foreman. He spoke good English, showed attention to detail, and did a careful, professional job even when the weather got so hot we found ourselves urging the crew to take more breaks. They were not the cheapest bid, but worth it for the skilled workmanship. This is the second project we have hired them to do, and I would recommend them for any work where drainage is important."

"Lux foundation repair did a wonderful job at my home. I have 4 pipes coming into my home that had deteriorating seals around the pipe. The seals had deteriorated to the point that I had a large plastic box under the pipes so that after every rain I would collect the water that otherwise would have destroyed our finished basement. After small storms, I would collect a couple gallons, after very large storms, I would collect over 8 gallons of water in the box. I spoke to one contractor who suggested excavating the outside of the home. No small task since the pipes enter about 6’ below grade and it would have involved removing several established plants. I was surprised with the estimator from Lux informed me that they could solve the problem from inside the home. I was surprised that the estimator was very confident that he could not only fix the problem, but guarantee that it would fix the problem. The work team arrived on time, quickly did their work and left. When the next storm arrived, I checked the box….no water at all. Was it painless? Yes. Was it worth the money? Yes."

"The pipe in the front yard providing water service to my home burst and was spilling water at the rate of about 4 gallons per minute, flooding my neighbor's yard.  On the recommendation of someone who was at my home providing an unrelated service, I called another plumber first.  Not only did this first plumber make me wait all day for his constantly postponed arrival, he also wanted to tear out the trees in the front yard, and remove large portions of a garden that was installed,at some expense, last year.  I didn't want to destroy the appearance of my home, or lose mature trees, without searching for some alternative first.

I went on Angie's List to find another plumber to determine if there were an alternative.  I like using small, local businesses, and DB's has high ratings, so I called.  Dave and Tommy from DB's came to my home during the appointed time (no delays) and analyzed the problem from my perspective as the homeowner.  They found a way to install an entirely new line as the old, burst one was running adjacent and close to several other services to the house, including the sewer line, risking breakage, if the original path into the house were followed in laying a new line.  Also, the builder had installed the incoming water service toward the back of the basement, away from the front of the house.  In other words, there were considerable challenges of distance and location to overcome.

Dave engaged another company with the technology to assist him with running a new line under the house.  No disturbance to the garden, no mess in the house, resulted in one happy homeowner.   The water line was replaced during one day!  They even saved the patches of grass over the few small holes they dug, and overseeded and laid straw on a larger area. Dave also documented the installation on video and is sending me a copy.  This is great service!!

I am so grateful that for this thoughtful, thorough, and professional work.  I cannot speak highly enough of the work that DB's did and strongly recommend this company.  By the way, DB's estimates are rock solid.  There is no surprise bill at the end, even if there are cost overruns, and the work is guaranteed for 5 years.  What's not to love?

Customers say: Quick response

"Had a foundation crack in the basement which caused rainwater to seep inside. Several companies came out and and looked at the job. I selected Aalcon because the solution they proposed addressed the outside AND inside of the house. Their cost was very reasonable, communication was excellent, and the crew did exactly what they were hired to do. It's been several months since they did the repair and we've had plenty of rain - not a drip of water inside the basement!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Walkout basements cost more than other kinds of basements, and can also increase your risk of leaks as well as a loss of insulation, leading to higher heating and cooling costs. Improperly installed walkout basements may lead to structural issues with your foundation, so ensure you’re working with a contractor who has extensive experience with this kind of basement.

Overwatering can cause issues like water pooling and drainage problems. To prevent overwatering, monitor your soil levels on a regular basis and change your watering schedule as necessary.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Water damage always poses a primary risk of mold and mildew, but growth is not guaranteed. The chances of mold developing depend on several factors, including the severity of the damage and how quickly the area is cleaned and dried. To prevent mold, you must act quickly—ideally within the first 24 hours. Clean up all water and thoroughly dry the affected area. If the damage is extensive, you were unable to address it immediately, or you suspect mold has already started to grow, it is best to assume it is present and hire a professional mold inspector or removal expert to assess the situation.

Water can seep into porous materials like wood beams, floor joists, and roof rafters within minutes, but they’ll need to see prolonged exposure before you have structural damage. Mold can start growing within 24 hours, and mold can eat away at the structural components over time. Wood rot is more of a concern, though. Wet and dry rot are fungal infections that set in in moist conditions and rapidly deteriorate wood, causing major structural damage within just a few months in some cases.
