If you are updating your home to put on the market, we offer a deferred payment option. We recognize the struggle that sellers face when getting ready to sell their home. Often the main issue is simply not having the finances to make the necessary improvements that will generate a higher sales price. There is no secret to selling, UPDATED HOMES SELL FASTER AND HIGHER! Our clients have averaged a 130% Return on Investment when updating their home for sale. We can take care of all of your home remodeling needs from finishing a basement, remodeling your kitchen and bathrooms, to replacing your roof. Our approach is simple - we use high quality contractors to make smart updates to your home or listing based on our 20 years of experience in the DC Area Real Estate Market. "If you want to work with someone condescending, rude, confrontational, unprofessional, and whose contractors workmanship is probably the worst I have ever encountered in my 30 years of working with contractors, THIS IS YOUR GUY. I can ramble on about the false promises, the horrible workmanship, the constant delays, the lack of communication, the rude and confrontational text messages. I guarantee Mr. Shank will in fact respond to this review and try to flip the script and blame it all on me somehow. He talks very poorly about all his customers well at least the ones he doesn't like. Not sure what that is based on although I do have some idea what is based on. But he never made anything explicit, so I can't make accusations that he is a racist. So I am definitely not saying he is a racist because he didn't do anything racist. But if he was a racist it would explain why he didn't give two poops about doing good work for multiple projects I provided him. I also have multiple properties and was hoping to make Mr. Shank a lifelong contractor. In a nutshell, he has done 2 projects for me at 2 properties. One was installing a threshold for a glass enclosed shower stall. His crappy sub contractor (they are not employees) despite him saying they are employees, did not install any grouting on the threshold. Fast forward 1 year, and mold is popping up all around the threshold. Rather than dealing with this individual, I hired another contractor to fix up his mess. Second job, and my second mistake, I hired him for a full scale home renovation for around 50K. That project was an absolute disaster. He took 3 months to do what he promised to me verbally would be a 3 week job. I don't really want to spend 1 hour writing down all the crap he did wrong. I'll try so sum up the highlights. Ripped out old flooring, promised to make new flooring level after installing new concrete by using lasers. New flooring is totally not level and as bumpy as walking on your local trail. The shoe moldings around the flooring look like a child installed them. I had to argue with him to get him to regrout the bathroom which was in his contract in the first place. I can go on and on. For sure if you are someone that Mr. Shank likes and match his criteria of what he likes, whatever that could be I have no idea definitely not race related. He may do a great job for you and that may explain the great reviews. I myself had a horrible experience with Mr. Shank and his group of sub contractors who just plain do terrible work. Ignore my review or take it seriously, frankly this guy will keep getting business cause he's a great salesman. Even has a LinkedIN profile to show how professional he is. Epic scammer and fraud. Stay away."

Custom Design Tile is a full scale kitchen and bathroom remodeling company that builds from a basis of quality, doing it the right way, high standards of customer service, showing up on time, and staying to finish the job. Custom Design Tile has never missed a promised completion date. You will become aware of a sense of wholesomeness and integrity from your first meeting because Custom Design Tile instills quality standards into all the aspects and elements of this proven, thirty-year-old business. Custom Design Tile’s expertise in home renovation is extensive. Brian has bought, renovated and sold Twenty of his own homes.

"Note that I selected and purchased the light, mirror, medicine cabinet, and accessories (towel bars, grab bars, et al.), which added $3,500 to my cost. Most of that amount was for brass accessories ordered from a boutique manufacturer. I have no doubt the amount would have been substantially less had I gone with mainstream, off-the-shelf items. My initial meeting with Mike Brennan, CDT’s CEO, was characterized by an open and very comfortable discussion of my goals, the selection process, where I would take responsibility for item procurements, and the demolition and construction processes. I was struck by the impression that CDT would be very easy to work with, and I wasn’t disappointed. (The other provider I spoke with never called me back.) A major benefit of working with Mike is that he guides customers through visits with four vendors to select tiles, components (e.g., tub and sink), the vanity, and the countertop. That “excursion” took about four hours. (In contrast, I perseverated for weeks over the items I was responsible for.) The renovation took about two weeks. As disruptive as renovations might be, this one proceeded pretty much as planned, and the inevitable hiccups that occurred were easily taken in stride. During this time, two of CDT’s crews worked on different aspects of the project. These people were knowledgeable, experienced, proficient, courteous, and respectful. The resulting renovation is beautiful! I highly recommend CDT for renovation projects, and I plan to use them in the next couple of years for kitchen upgrades that I’m starting to plan for."

Bull Run Kitchen and Bath is a family owned and operated business serving the VA metropolitan areas. We are dedicated to providing professional service and work hard to ensure that our clients needs are being met on time and on budget.

"Bull Run Kitchen and Bath completed two bathroom renovations in my home. They did an excellent job. The designer, Salih Coskun, went above and beyond from start to finish. In many ways he served as the project manager, never overlooking any detail. I am very grateful for his dedication and creative eye. The workers were wonderful. They did exacting work and the results were fabulous. The weakest link was the actual project manager, Murat, who did not do a good job of planning when to order supplies or scheduling which resulted in the project taking much too long to finish. The results, however, compensated for the process. Everyone who has seen the bathrooms has raved about them. They are truly gorgeous."

Blue Isle Granite & Tile is a family-owned company based in Northern Virginia. We care about our clients and provide dependable quality service. As our own first customer, we wouldn't do anything to your home that we wouldn't do to our own. Our hallmark is our exceptional service - we will work until our customers are satisfied. Award wining.

"In the middle of some kitchen renovations, we learned that a sink that we had bought to replace the existing sink was too large for the hole in our granite countertop. This was only after the old sink had been pulled out so we were without a functioning kitchen sink. I called Blue Isle on the afternoon of August 5 and spoke to co-owner Tamara who promised to speak with Ike, the other co-owner, to see if they would be able to cut the countertop in place so that the new sink could be installed. Tamara called me back in less than 15 minutes and confirmed that they could do the job the following afternoon. On August 6, Ike came on time with a two man crew and went to work. He measured the new sink and the space where it would have to go and commenced cutting. Within an hour, the job was done, the sink was fitting properly into the countertop, and Ike and his crew had cleaned up the dust created by the cutting operation. Blue Isle's responsiveness and quality of work were both excellent. We would use them for other stone and tile work without question."

At Cameo Kitchens, every customer works with one designer who will walk with them through each step of the remodel experience. Once there is complete agreement on all design elements, Cameo’s contract will detail the work to be done, state a firm price, and specify a start date. Most jobs take about four weeks to complete. Some may take longer, depending on the relative complexity of the installation. When your beautiful kitchen is finished, you’ll be telling your friends that Cameo Kitchens sets the standard for quality in design, materials, and professional service. Our master craftsmen will see to that. After all, we’re not finished until we meet and exceed all of your expectations. That’s our commitment to you.

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.

Tiling over your existing backsplash is possible with the right materials and preparation. To do this, the existing backsplash must be clean and free of damage. If you’re installing the new tiles with thinset mortar, the thinset will fill in the existing grout lines as you go, so there won’t be any low spots. If you’re installing a peel and stick tile backsplash, you’ll need to add grout to the existing grout lines first to create a level surface.

Whether you want to match your tile trim with grout comes down to your personal preferences. If you match the two, it can help your tiles to stand out while providing a clean, cohesive look. On the other hand, you might opt to match your tile trim with your tiles. The best option will depend largely on your tile design, as well as how it fits overall with the rest of your room.
