They laid my granite while I was not at home. I came back while they were working on the fireplace. I noticed a stain on the hearth. They were putting in my fireplace surrounding in 3 pieces. Ike had already warned me that there should not be seams. They were piecing in the top part and it did not fit. I looked at Ike and said "it doesn't fit." He looked me directly in the eyes and said "IT fits perfectly." I sat and watched for a few minutes and knew that they must have felt uncomfortable. I knew they would make it right so I left to run an errand.
Tamara called and said there was a stain on the hearth and Ike would be back to fix it the next day.I had seen it too. This was ALL she talked about so I assumed they made the rest of the fireplace fine.
When I got home, they had used two smaller pieces of scrap granite, slid the unfitting top piece over to the right and the glue was sticking out. I took pictures and sent it and called. Immediately Tamara got back to me and said "don't worry about it Ike is going to redo the whole thing tomorrow!"
I was fine with that. The thing that I didn't like was that Ike had looked in my eyes and said "it fits perfectly," when it obviously did not. I don't like to be lied to. Also that afternoon he shut my dishwasher in front of me...it didn't fit the way it used to.
So the next day Ike showed up about an hour and a half later than he said he was going to. I realized my dishwasher did not shut well. If I had left it, it would have warped. A general contractor came in to do my plumbing. He put in my faucet only to realize that it sounded like a chainsaw when you pulled the faucet out. I had to then go out and get my own faucet that morning on the spot! When I looked up the type of faucet that would have gone in it was a builders grade Triangle brand faucet that was bought in bulk for about $40.00 or less per faucet. It was a builders grade faucet that I was being charged $200.00 for. I know that it was bought in bulk because Tamara told me that she had seen a ton of those faucets in the garage or somewhere. She said they usually did not have trouble with them. I went and bought my own name brand Moen for $190.00.
To Tamara and Ike's credit they were willing to immediately give me back my money on that.
So when Ike finally showed up he immediately gave me attitude. I went and showed him my concerns about the fireplace granite. The attitude continued, as he acted highly p***** off and raised his voice both at me and at the general contractor in my home. He even seemed angry about the faucet and said "well what is wrong with this????"
THe showdown continued as I asked him if I had made him mad. He said that I was "rubbing his nose in his work."
I'M SORRY, BUT AT WHAT POINT DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE ANY ATTITUDE OR YELL AT ME IN MY OWN HOME AFTER I HAVE JUST PAYED YOU $3200?????
We changed the way the granite was going to be layed on the fireplace. Ike was willing to do it but after much convincing. He felt that it would be fine to glue it directly to the already existing tile. 3 other contractors had told me to rip out the tile. They had all said that eventually it would fall off of the tile. This was evidenced by how easily it was removed. Ike was worried about the drywall falling off. But, all you have to do is replace the drywall.
The GC that was there actually said he was worried to leave me alone, due to Ike's temper and stayed the whole time.
I called Tamara and told her how uncomfortable this made me feel.
Suddenly Ike's tune changed and he was back to being nice. HE wanted me to check out the fireplace to make sure it looked ok.
There was a CRACK in the bottom of the granite. They put caulking in it. It's in a place that you would not notice. But still, how do you crack granite? I didn't pay for cracked granite! I wasn't going to make a big deal over it.Not after the way my feedback had been taken from before. I was too rattled.
I found spots on the carpet where the guys has spilled caulking on it and one spot that looked faintly like blood.
There is now a groove on the top of my dishwasher where it did not shut properly. Ike had to have known about this because he shut it right in front of me and it definitely did not close properly and easily.
Also, Ike didn't know how long the seal on the granite lasted. Tamara told me to go to Home Depot (although that is not the place where they get their granite. But, she told me this b/c they have 10 year seal. I was just wondering why their ten year seal at Home Depot mannered when they don't use HD's granite? After the fact Tamara told me that the seal is 7 years give or take.
The day became one thing after another. It should have been smooth. It makes me wonder if I had not called Ike out on the top of the fireplace if he would have replaced it. He said that he told me he was coming back....HE never did. He said that he told Tamara that and she said maybe she had just misunderstood. Tamara only told me he was coming back to replace the hearth. But then after I said something about the whole thing she said he would replace it all. They scratched a place on my fireplace and did not sand it out or repaint it. The wooden mantel now has seam like crack marks going from the inner corners of the mantel.
SYNOPSIS: The granite looks beautiful! He did a really great job overall.
-A voice should never be raised especially in my own home and especially over Ike's mistakes or cheap faucet. I hired him.
-Ike did stand behind his work and knew what he was doing.
-Not sure why my fireplace was going to be put in in 3 pieces when Ike told me don't get a company that will put seams in.
-Ike told me that he hated doing fireplaces because they are the toughest. The General contractor I hired told me they are the EASIEST things to do.
-Not sure why Ike didn't fess up to his mistake (about the top piece not fitting) when I said something about it in the first place. Don't know why he looked me in the eyes and said "it is perfect." As if I couldn't see it?
-Get your own faucets. They use builders grade faucets and upcharge you alot!
-Ike was very professional when he took my estimate and drew everything out.
-Tamara was professional the whole way through.
-Tamara called that night to ask if everything was ok. I was so over having one thing after the other go wrong I didn't mention the spots on the carpet or scratch they made on the wooden mantel on the fireplace.
-For the granite alone they did great, but many problems happened during the fireplace installation. I am laid back and if Ike had just fessed up immediately I wouldn't have been bothered. The phone call the day of the installation was just to discuss Ike fixing the hearth.
-As far as the final work..granite alone I would give them an A. But,due to all of the problems...faucets, dishwasher, stainS, TEMPER, crack in the granite etc I'm giving them a C.
I would give Tamara an A for professionalism although she made me feel like some of the questions I asked were a little silly! Other than that she was great!

We wanted to update our bathroom with 2 granite countertops, and replacement sinks and fixtures. We found a remnant slab of granite we liked at Blue Isle, and their price quote was less than the other estimate we got. Working with Tamara was a pleasure. She really went "above and beyond" to make sure that we were happy with the result. I voiced some concern about the fact that we only saw one slab of granite, but the job required a second slab which we had never seen. Tamara made sure that the slab was from the same "lot number", which meant that it would be compatible. She sensed that I was still concerned, so she invited us to come to the workroom to view the layout of the granite pieces before they were cut. My schedule made that difficult, so she took the initiative to send pictures of the "layout" on both granite slabs. The granite installation went smoothly and the results look great! In addition, the crew did a fabulous job of clean-up. Tamara coordinated the water hook-up with a plumbing company, cheerfully making several changes to accommodate our schedule. We are so happy with our new bathroom! We would not hesitate to recommend Blue Isle for superb workmanship and customer service that can't be beat!

Ike showed up (very prompt and called when on the way) and measured. He offered me options that he had enough of and would match the colors of my bath. To day it is beautiful is an understatement.
Ike and Tamara are so professional and I'm so grateful that they were able to accommodate my rush needs. The bathroom looks beautiful and I couldn't be more pleased.
I intend to use them on the next bathroom and the kitchen. They are that good.

A couple of suggestions for customers having a new counter installed: 1) while they remove the top drawers for you to be able to work on the counter, they do not remove all the drawers, so put towels over the items in your bottom drawers (or remove them also) or you will get sawdust in your pots and things. 2) move everything away from the front door, so it is easier for them to bring the slabs in.
Overall a great experience and would not hesitate to recommend, or to use them again.
