"Our house was renovated a couple of months before we bought it. We were told that piers were put in under the foundation. A few months after we moved in our front door started getting stuck. I noticed a long crack in the facade on the front of the house and subsequently noticed that the foundation was rising in the back of the house. Our house kept moving in different directions based on how dry or wet everything was. I called Risen and they were extremely responsive. Krista spent a lot of time on several phone calls with me as I inquired about every facet of pier installations. They came out and measured the levels of the house. All of this investment on their part was done without any commitment on my part. The team at Risen is comprised of very good, knowledgable people that will give you the warm and fuzzies about an operation that deserves no warm and fuzzies. The work was done quickly and cleanly. It was minimally intrusive and our house hasn’t moved since the piers went in. For a project as daunting as lifting your house and putting in steel piers, Risen ensured that I felt like I was in good care. As a prior business owner, I can tell you that you are extremely lucky to come across a business like Risen. I would highly recommend them to anyone."

Small jobs welcome

"I had a small job for them to fill in cracks around my old home. The owner was great and gave good advice on what work to get done. Babco Foundation Repair and TEAM did the work and told me everything they were going to do and then showed it all to me afterwards. They did an excellent job and everything is well sealed. I typically ask lots of questions and they answered all of them. They are respectful and honest people. I definitely recommend these guys for concrete work."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

When painting brick, each application method has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Spraying is significantly faster but may not penetrate deeply beyond the surface layer. Rolling is effective for working paint into the brick's texture but can be less effective on mortar joints. If you opt for a roller, choose a thick nap of at least a half-inch to ensure paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage. Using a brush is generally not recommended as it is very time-consuming and provides poor surface penetration. Ultimately, a combination of spraying followed by back-rolling is often the best strategy for a durable and even finish.

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.

Common causes include weather exposure, moisture, and settling. Regular maintenance prevents significant damage.

The material you use depends on how hard-wearing your steps need to be and what you want them to look like. The most common stone for exterior steps is bluestone. It’s hard-wearing and durable, and bluestone steps cost between $15 and $30 per linear foot. Limestone is also a popular option and is mid-range, costing $25 to $50 per linear foot. You should always consider the specific requirements of your project before ordering any materials.

In most cases, painting your brick house is a fine idea that can open up new aesthetic possibilities. However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.
