"Working with San Marcos Drywall Repair, and w Garrett, was so stress free and easy. His bids came in the best and the speed at which the work was accomplished was mind boggling. He made all the deadlines and came in on budget. Not only drywall, but grouting, painting, anything I asked he and his crew were capable of handling. I will call them every time. They make it easy and they listen. I always got a call back when I needed something, unfailing honest. What more can you ask for?"

Small jobs welcome

"Nick and team were punctual, professional performed job exactly as described in a timely manner. Work done was far superior than expected. He had to go to the studs to repair sloppy work done by prior Company. Did some painting in my house as well. Do yourself a huge favor and call Nick for estimate, he also is fairly priced I will definitely hire again."

"Alex was very communicative and flexible with my schedule. We spoke on the phone, toured the home, and he gave me a reasonable quote. He finished the job a day early and I am very satisfied with his work and would hire him again in the future."

"It went wonderful. Steve’s attention to detail and care for your home is second to none. I highly recommend him for your project. We were so happy with the work he did in our kitchen that we had him back a month later to do tile work on another area. We intend to have him remodel our bathrooms next year. Again, I can’t recommend him enough. You will not be disappointed."

"Emrah and his team were very involved in making sure my bathroom tile project had the best possible outcome. He suggested the best type/size of tile, grout color, edging etc. that would create the best look. He took his time and was very detail oriented. He did not take shortcuts or worry about the amount of time he had to spend on the project to make sure it was right. He was willing to negotiate his labor cost upfront and never tried to add additional labor cost even thought the project took a little longer than expected due circumstances beyond his control. He asked for half of the cost upfront and the other half only after the project was completed, inspected by me, and any issues resolved. I have other projects at the house in mind and plan to hire Emrah in the near future."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can technically just paint over hairline cracks in plaster since these cracks are often harmless, but this will mostly be a waste of paint. Paint will only hide the hairline crack for a few months before it shows up again. The best solution is to repair the crack with flexible filler or joint compound before repainting.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Yes, small, superficial cracks are normal as homes settle. Older homes have a higher chance of showing signs of settling through hairline cracks from temperature changes, moisture changes, and soil shifting. However, larger cracks, or discolored cracks from water damage, may signify a bigger problem that requires reparations and preventative measures.

Installing or repairing plaster on ceilings differs slightly from performing the same motions on a wall. You’ll apply slightly less plaster to lower the overall weight of the ceiling. Wall texturing is common, whereas most ceilings are smooth plaster. Tough coat plaster is strong, meaning you can use less while retaining a solid surface.
