"Lance was professional and knowledgeable. He came out, gave me an estimate and was on time for the job. My door weatherstripping looks great and the doors are sealed. I would hire him again. His costs was reasonable and very affordable. I highly recommend this company."

"From start to finish, Emrah put his personal best into a quality job. One of the most trustworthy and ethical experiences I've had in a long time. Having some unexpected challenges arise after the project began with rock and a stubborn tree, Emrah did not take short cuts. He worked through the challenges in the extreme heat and did not compromise the integrity of building my fence. If you want to hire someone who takes pride in their work, this is who you should hire."

Small jobs welcome

"Bob is a fantastic handyman. He was direct, on time, courteous and i would hire him again. We hired him to repair a hole in our cieling drywall. He knew exactly what needed to be done, and delivered. We have young children and having Bob around was no concern for us. He is a honorable and upstanding man. His price was reasonable. He was overall, just right."

"I had called another company and waited ten days for a written estimate. After numerous calls I gave up and looked on Angi. They replied right away. Did an estimate within a few minutes. They sent a copy of their LLC so I felt more comfortable. And agreed to a service day, and to drive from very far away to do the work. Richard did a wonderful job changing out all the door hardware on all of our doors with locks. We plan to have him out again for other work."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Using force to open a door is not recommended, as this could cause serious injury or permanent damage to your door and surrounding door frame. If it’s a front door that you’ve lost the keys for, it’s better to call a locksmith. If it’s an interior door without any lock that you plan on keeping, a handyman can help. Finally, if it’s an old door that you plan to replace anyway, a professional door installer can remove the stuck door and source a replacement.

Doors get more sticky in the summer. Contrary to popular belief, doors can also stick in the winter since humidity causes doors to stick during both seasons. However, thermal expansion and humidity in the summer mean that the thermal heat and moisture in the air both play a role in causing a door to stick.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

If a sofa doesn’t fit through the door, try angling it to maneuver it through. You’d be surprised at how often this works. Next, remove the legs and cushions and try again. If that doesn’t work, consider an alternate entry point like a window or a back door. When all else fails, contact a pro.
