"The response time and follow-up by Texan Water was absolutely amazing despite this recent winter storm in Texas. We were out of water dur to frozen broken pipes and pump. Getting any other company to just answer their phones or even get back to us was impossible. After searching through about 11 different companies (plumbers and well repair services -- anyone) Texan Water not only answere their phone, but immediately got us in touch with Austin to schedule our service. They were overwhelmed with calls and work orders, but they came through for us no matter what. Now we have running water again and the repair was done in the same day! I HIGHLY recommend Texan Water for anyone who wants good old fashioned customer service and want to deal with people who really care."

"I found the owner Paul Motal to be very honest! He needed to replace the 20 year old well pump. Using the size before, he found it didnâ t pull as much water. He said it would work for a few years but really needed more pull. He was leaving town the next day but came back the next morning to replace with a better suited pump. He didnâ t have to tell me since the pump they got would work for a while but I am so grateful that he was looking out for my best interest even though it delayed his leaving out-of-town! Also, Paulâ s workers were fast, efficient, and respectful. They also replaced the control box because it was 20 years old too and corroded! Yaayyy...I have water again!"

"We had a water leak in the yard and they came out fast and fixed the broken pipe in our yard. We also had them replace a kitchen faucet and 2 shower heads another time. Very pleased with the service. They are professional and friendly. Will definitely use them again. Highly recommend."

"All went as planned and my tenants are happy with the new water heater.  I have used Parker and Sons several times this year. While I sometimes think the price is a little on the high side, it is worth paying for a service I can trust.  They are very responsive and can provide almost any plumbing services, including main sewer line.

"had a leak my the water meter box, came out found the leak and had it fixed within the hour.  Previous estimates $2800.00 - $1750.00.  Jesus and Jose fixed for only $595.00 with a warranty on work! A true life and budget savers.  The crew was professional and courteous.  I'm really impressed I will use your company again in the future and will recommend to anyone and everyone

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

There are several things that can shorten the life of a water softener. Homes with very hard water may have to replace the unit sooner because the water softener works harder to filter out the hard minerals. High water usage and infrequent maintenance can also put more strain on a water softener.

It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.

The average cost to install a water softener, including the system and labor, is approximately $1,500. However, the total price can range widely from $600 to $6,000. For some complete systems, the cost may be between $800 and $2,500. Labor for the installation typically costs between $150 and $1,000.

The final price is influenced by several factors, including:

  • System type, capacity, and complexity

  • Home size and household water demands

  • Water hardness levels

  • Accessibility of the installation site and the extent of plumbing work required

  • Whether new electrical work is needed

  • The professional hired and any local permit costs

The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.
