American Water carries the Kinetico water softener. Although it's not the cheapest, it's one of the best on the market and for the deal we got, we were able to include a whole house water softener. Installation was straight forward since our house already had a connection in the garage. The Kinetico water softener is very efficient, uses no power and uses very little salt. It's so efficient that you can drink tap water and use the water for plants. American Water keeps tabs on your service check the function any time you need to confirm everything is working to spec. We are very happy with their service and their product.

Salesmen & installers were punctual, responsive and very knowlegable. Eighteen months after system installation, I had an issue with water quality. I called the office and the issue was quickly addressed and serviceman was out to fix the problem the next day. Would recommend.

I paid $4000 for installing the water system. First of all they installed it outside the house, the same season feeezing destroyed the system & they refused to cover or offer help.

The installation was prompt and professional. We have been so pleased with the system that we have never considered changing it to anything else. The only thing we have to do with this system in change out the filter a couple of times a year and that is no hassle at all. I call the American Water System office and tell them I need filters. They look up my account and send me the filters that I need. Super easy! In my opinion, they are the only company from which to buy your water softener and RO system.

Everything went well. Don't know how competitive it is when it comes to pricing though. Water softeners have a very varied pricing. But the installation was done well and all new pipes were used so everything looked good in the end. Also did an extra faucet to use soft water for the car which is cool.

This is my second review. My first review was less than stellar as was their performance. That being said, mistakes happen. A good company looks good when things go right. A great company is one that steps up when things go wrong. In this instance I was dissatisfied with the tech who showed up late and rather than offer to fix my existing system with out even looking at it, tried to sell me a new one. When I refused his offer thinking I'd like to do my homework he hit me with a service charge. In essence I paid for being told what my options were. This to me is like going to an auto repair shop and being told your car is beyond repair, "but we can sell you a new one," and than getting billed for the advice. I told him to pound salt. Later on I was contacted by the GM of American Water - Jay Baker - after hours, who apologized on behalf of his tech and asked for the opportunity to make it right. The tech who showed up this time - Laddie - was fully prepared to repair my existing system and installed the correct filters. Instead of leaving, Laddie took the time to wait and insure his work was to our satisfaction. When the old system started leaking, and he explained in detail what the problems were, than we made a decision to buy a replacement. and using my existing unit as a trade in . This new unit is excellent. The bottom line is, the tech took a little more time to explain what was going on in terms we could understand. He hung around long enough to check his work. Had he not done so, we'd probably have been hit with another service charge and I would have bought a competitive unit. In the end American Water kept my business and moved some inventory and gets this glowing review. In summary: A good company provides goods or services. All companies make mistakes. The difference between a good company and a great company are what happens when things go wrong. In this instance American Water proved to me they are a great company and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

We were previous owners of a Kinetico system. When we moved here to Austin, we had to get another since once you have one, you can never go back! We love Kinetico and stand by their products. We found American Water via the Kinetico site. Originally, we had a pretty subpar experience with this company. Looking at the reviews, it was kind of surprising given their good reputation. After our installation, we reached out to Jay who was the person responding to reviews here and explained what happened and our experience thus far. Jay reached out directly to the owner who then himself, drove to our house and personally met us to apologize. From then on out, he followed through on everything himself. Everything he promised, he delivered which we really appreciated. He would call us often to give us updates and honestly, we really appreciated that. Even though the original experience wasn't what we were expecting, they did make it right. They've been in business 30 years so obviously they are doing something right. Things happen and not everything goes the way it should but they did make it 100% right. We will continue to go through them for services when needed. Just know that you will have a positive experience and if you don't, they will make it right anyway they can within reason. That's pretty reassuring if you ask me and a model more companies should hold.

It was fine. I thought it was going to be a deal for a filter change or something so its not something I will probably ever do again. He was punctual and courteous. I will not use them for the same service. I just didn't think that it was worth having somebody come and look at my system if my water was hard or not. It was within two weeks when they came out. t was pretty quickly.

They weren't able to do anything with my water system. They came out on the scheduled date. whatever that was. They came shortly after I purchased the big deal. My system had not been used in at least two years. They looked it over to do a service call and found that part of it did not function so they couldn't do anything else with it. Its not one that they can repair.

He said he could not do the service because the softner had too much salt in it and there was no way for him to perform the service. He said getting a $600.00 filter would enhance the life of my sotner. He gave a nasty bottle and wanted me to put some water in it. He the proceeded to pour out the water on my driveway, towards my 2 week old new car. He never told me what it was for or what I was touching. I thought he was supposed to service my water softner, not try to sell me filter.

He punched the buttons on my softener and told me it was not working. He said he could not perform the work because there was too much salt in the reservoir. He immediately started talking about clorine in the water and that the clorine is going to destroy the softner. He did leave me 2 bags of salt, but for 59.00 that is the most expensive salt in the world. My run time for the softner is 2 AM, and it ran the morning he came. He gave me some info on the amount of salt that should be in the softner, I think. It was the first day of the cold snap and I think it was too cold for him. I am so disappointed with these Angie's list providers. They do not vet these businesses so when you buy a service you are playing Russian rouettte with your time and money. I am too tired to fight anymore. So I just bought two 50lb bags of salt for $59.00.

Thank you very much for visiting with me on the phone this afternoon. We take our customer service very seriously. A quick test of your water determined your treated water was hard. As I mentioned, the service tech did go thru the cycles on your system and found everything worked properly except there was no brine draw. He cleared debris from the brine intake and put the system into a regeneration for you. As to the amount of salt in your tank we recommend not filling them to the very top (but that didn't keep him from working on the unit). Salt will bridge from condensation causing it not to drop.....giving you hard water. We also recommend to all of our customers who are on chlorinated water to put in a carbon filter prior to their softener. Chlorine destroys the resin and seals in a water softener. We've had two calls just this week from folks that have a softener from one of the big box stores without dechlorination . The resin in both was degraded to the point the resin came thru and into the plumbing of their home. This means an expensive visit from a plumber to clean the resin from their pipes. As I told you this afternoon we are mailing you a check back for the $59.00. We want to be able to guarantee our customer's satisfaction. That's the most important thing to our company. Having just moved into a home with a water softener system and never having owned one before, I needed some information/training. I bought "a deal" from Angie's list from American Water for a tune-up. The appointment was scheduled in no time and the representative came over prepared as they had asked what brand/model I had. The technician Brian arrived as scheduled, was extremely polite and helpful in explaining the use of the water softener. He went through the whole process of testing the water and checking everything on the system and informed me on what to keep an eye on and how to maintain it. He also gave me various options of replacement as our system isn't the best, all without any selling pressure. I will definitely hire American Water when it comes time to replace our unit. I would highly recommend American Water for their professionalism, quality of work, punctuality and great customer service. Thank you!

I would definitely recommend American Water Conditioning for the servicing of water softeners. We moved to Texas in early September only to find out after moving in that a whole house water softener was installed in the garage. I have never owned one before and knew nothing about them. I called the previous owner and she stated I simply needed to add salt pellets and that is was long overdue for a check-up (wish i had known prior to sale as I would have had her pay for it). For about 6 weeks all seemed to be fine until I tried tinkering with the system to see if I could figure out how it worked. I turned valves and dials and pushed buttons, etc. Long story short I came out the garage a few hours after tinkering with it and found the floor flooded with water from the system. I immediately started Google searching for any information I could on the system. All I could find was a spec sheet that was 15+ years old. I called the manufacturer and couldn't get anyone to talk to. Turns out my system was no longer produced (and NO literature was available) and the original manufacturer was taken over by Kinetico. So I again turned to Google and came across American Water and was happy to find out they were located less than 5 miles from my house. I called to see if I could get an appointment for a check-up and to see if someone could simply teach me how to use the system. Turns out they already had my system in their records and stated that it had not been serviced in over ten years. I was a little reluctant to schedule an appointment, as i assumed they would try to sell me a new system and I was definitely not in the market for one. I went ahead and scheduled a tech. the appointment was within one week. Here is where I became pleased with American Water. The tech (I wish I remembered his name) showed up on time and was very friendly. After some small talk he began to look over the system, he he did mention quite quickly, was very old and probably a little outdated. "Here we go" is all I could think. He looked everything over, ran and flushed the system for a few cycles, checked water quality and even checked the house water pressure with system both on and off. Being a contractor and a hands on guy myself, I was kind of hovering over him and playing close attention to what he was doing. When he finished he sat down to tell me what he found. "Here we go" was still running through my head. Instead of a sales pitch, he told me that, much to his surprise, everything seemed to be ok. He stated that the system was approximately 20 years old, uses outdated technology and probably won't last too many years longer, but as of that day, all was well. He did recommend that the carbon filler in the filter tank be replaced since he had no idea of it's age and that the life cycle was most likely over. He also recommended cleaning the salt tank and replacing all the pellets. I asked him why it leaked all over the garage (an answer I already knew) and he stated that the overflow valve switch didn't open and the water that should have drained out to the sewer line leaked out the top of the tank. He had checked the valve operation a few times and it appeared to be working just fine. He then spent about 15 minutes explaining the system controls and settings to me. He was very thorough and made sure I understood what was going on. Knowing that I had only booked a one hour appointment I figured I was going to have to schedule another appointment for the additional work. When I asked the tech, he did state that he had full day scheduled but would be happy to do the carbon replacement. He gave me a price, I agreed and he got right to it. While he was working on that I asked him about cleaning out the storage tank and he explained it very well. As he was finishing the carbon replacement, knowing he could clean the tank in a tenth of the time I could, I asked if he could do it for me. He said "no problem", gave me a price and got to work on that also. Since I live a mile from the store i ran up and bought new salt pellets so the system would be ready before he left. All in all the tech spent about two hours at my house. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I now had a "like-new" water softener and understood how to use it. I recommended them to all my neighbors for future servicing. I have since moved to a new house and don't know if i am going to install a new system. If i do, I will definitely call American Water. As a contractor for over 20 years myself, it's was nice to deal with an honest company like American Water.

Contacted American Water. Very responsive. Sales person - Donald Weitzman very professional and courteous. I got a cheaper quote from another water softener vendor - who's product seems very good too. I chose American Water's Kinetico as I felt they were more on the ball. And due to Donald's pleasant attitude. He went out of his way to do business with me. Installation was a breeze - the installer Dustin did a really good installation. But after less that 1 week, the one tank started to leak water. Dustin came out the next day to replace it. However, I do not believe the replacement tank was new though. I hope this issue will not occur again. Not too impressed to be very honest with the quality of the tank - leaking after less than one week not a good sign. I would like to thank both Donald and Dustin for their work ethic and professionalism. The reason for the 'Fair' rating for quality is due to the leak not installation. I would recommend American Water

American Water contacted me a couple of days after my review was posted and assured me that I am on their delivery list. Apparently I misunderstood the conversation that I had with the representative when I originally called. I truly appreciate the follow up by the American Water representative and am happy to say that I am on a nine month delivery schedule.
Description of Work
Installed a Kinetico none electric water softener and carbon whole house carbon filtration system. The entire process was smooth and easy. The young men who dug the trenches were very polite and the installation only took a few hours. The only complaint I had was concerning the delivery of salt. I was under the assumption that the company would provide a delivery service but when I called, I am apparently outside of their delivery zone. Although the salt was delivered by the company once, I have had to provide all salt since then. The only problem is that I am unable to carry and refill the salt bin with those large bags of salt. Luckily, I have a son-in-law who is able to come by once in a while and handle that task for me. However, I had hoped that I could expect scheduled salt delivery from the company.
