"Drew did an excellent job. This project was difficult as he had to build a 15 foot high scaffold to reach the fan that had to be replaced. He was on time, covered the floors with tarps, and left everything in good shape. I certainly will use Service Electric Northwest again."

"Dave, the owner, is a very customer service oriented professional. He quickly diagnosed the 2 problems that I had and offered suggestions on how to repair the situations. I chose to order the part myself for one of the problems. He repaired out stair lights within minutes. There is a $100 minimum charge for coming out that you should be aware of, but I would highly recommend Dave and Tomahawk Electric, Inc. if you are looking for a dependable electrician."

"Matt was great. He quickly finished the work I needed, so he immediately asked if there was something else he could help with. He spent the remaining time working with me to try to solve a mystery electrical issue in my garage. It remains a mystery, but I really appreciated his willingness to explore the problem and explain what was going on. In the end everything is working great! I was happy with his willingness to go above and beyond the requested work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You don’t need an electrician to change an outlet—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hire one. Working with electricity can be dangerous, not only for you but also for your home and the members of your household. There’s the risk of electrocution, poor wiring burnout, and electrical fire. When you hire a licensed electrician, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your electrical outlets are installed correctly and up to code.

Grounded electrical outlets are usually three-pronged. You can also look for a grounding clip in your outlet boxes or use a circuit tester. If you’re unsure, consult a suitably qualified electrician regarding your home's electrical safety.

The Occupational Safety and Home Administration (OSHA) requires an electrical panel to have a minimum of three feet (36 inches) of room from the front of the panel to the closest obstacle. In this case, the word obstacle refers to nearly everything, including walls, machines, and other fixed objects. Additionally, panels require at least 6½ feet of headroom in the area directly in front of the fixture. These requirements help ensure safe use of the panel and allow electricians plenty of room to work.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

A water heater is one of the heaviest hitters in your home, and it needs as much power as possible to help it run efficiently and effectively.

Your water heater should be on its own dedicated circuit breaker, with no other power sources running to it. This is required to meet the National Electric Code–and to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible.
