"It was a pleasure to work with Troy of Defensible Space Management. He is a top of the line professional. He responded promptly to any inquiry I had. I had a large tree in front of of my house that needed to be removed. Troy came out, skillfully took the tree down, hauled away all traces of the work, and I couldn’t be more pleased with his work and excellent customer service. Highly recommend!"

"They arrived on time. All workers were polite and listened to my questions. The project was cleaning up a big maple tree. Michael was awesome. I would have cut so much more. He very patiently explained to me that he was concerned with symmetry and the canopy. Our trees turned out beautifully and we can’t wait to see them this summer. Thank you to all who worked on this project."

"Terrible ice storm destroyed a large maple tree. Part of the tree was leaning up against the house. He did a great job of removing the tree leaning over the neighbor's property but dropping the tree into my yard and removing it from the roof without any damage. Hauled off all of the tree and raked up the branches and twigs. He is very skilled he knows what he's doing he has the right equipment to do it safely. Kind and friendly."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

A tree growing close to a house can pose several risks, but removal isn't always the only or best solution. Potential problems include roots growing into the foundation and causing structural cracks, branches damaging the roof or promoting moss growth, and debris clogging gutters, which can lead to water damage. Trees can also provide access for pests and encourage mold. However, a small, healthy tree may not be a problem, and for larger, established trees, strategic trimming can be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative to removal. It is generally recommended to take action for trees within 10 to 20 feet of your home, especially if they are unhealthy or encroaching. Your best bet is to consult a professional arborist who can assess the specific situation and provide expert advice.

It's easy to misidentify trees that appear to be maple trees due to similarities in leaf shapes. Sweetgum, sycamore, and yellow poplar all have leaf shapes and appearances similar to maples. The fact that around a dozen maple tree varieties exist, only about half of which are considered common, makes misidentification an often typical occurrence.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.

In the short term, you’ll have a lot of fallen trees to deal with. Tree removal services costs typically start at $200 per tree and increase based on species and size. Then, you’ll have to deal with the loss of trees: That means a loss of shade and a greater risk of rain runoff and erosion. Also, you’ll miss out on the health and aesthetic benefits of having trees on your property, which could even affect the resale value of your home.

That being said, cutting down a tree it’s not always a bad idea. Trees growing too close to rooftops can present fire hazards or debris problems. You may need to remove diseased or dying trees to prevent future issues.
