"I'm selling my house and needed a quick turn-around to get some electrical work done as required by the buyers' lender. It's only been a couple days since I posted my project on Angi and the work is already done. Safety Home Services contacted me right away to get my project on their schedule. Kevin arrived as scheduled and was very quick and thorough with the GFCI replacements and other items on my list. As a bonus, he identified and clearly labeled all the switches in my breaker box. I'm a very happy customer."

"I had a lot of work that needed done. Bohemia electricians listened to what I needed done, made suggestions and provided written quote for each work item. If I needed electrical work done again, I’d hired them in a heartbeat. They were professional, cleaned up the area each time they worked. Coordinated with other contractors - plumbing, drywall, hvac, etc effectively."

"Incredible and precise craftsmanship! Taylor finished the installation of the last appliance of a four piece suite of Bosch kitchen appliances upgrades for us. We struggled to find some one to install a tricky over the range microwave - he worked his magic seamlessly! We will definitely continue to consult with him in the future! Highly recommend his services!!"

"On time and efficient. I added a few changes along the way so it took a couple days more then quoted but I wasnâ t expecting it not to be a bit longer. They kept me informed daily what all was going to happen for the day. Very pleased."

"James was right on time. The nicest person! Fixed my closet doors (which are IKEA). I recommend him to any anyone. He made my day. I had multiple people look at the problem since last Christmas and he was only one who figured out the problem. Five stars!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If you encounter any issues or feel unsure about your abilities, stop immediately and contact a licensed electrician for help. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to electrical work, as mistakes during the wiring process can be hazardous to your home and personal safety.

Smart light switches are designed to be compatible with most lights and traditional home wiring, but there are several key factors to check. First, verify your home's wiring, as some smart switches require a neutral wire to operate, which may not be present in older houses (often built before 1985). Always check the wiring requirements for the specific model you choose. Second, consider your light bulbs; while smart switches work with almost any light, using a dimming feature requires dimmable bulbs, such as dimmable LEDs. Finally, ensure you have the necessary network connection. Most smart switches need a Wi-Fi connection for remote control, but some older models might use other standards like ZigBee, which would require a compatible hub.

No, wiring does not need to be redone to get a dimmer switch, as they work with single-pole and three-way switches. Just ensure you choose a dimmer that is compatible with your wiring, fixture, and lightbulbs. Most homes built after 1985 have neutral wiring and work with almost all dimmers. If your home was built before 1985 and you don’t have an updated electrical system, you may have to use a non-neutral wiring dimmer.

The light that your ceiling light gives off will largely depend on the type of light bulb that’s installed in it. If you’re looking to brighten a dark room, LED bulbs are the way to go. LED bulbs will emit the most light while also using less energy than standard bulbs. They can last up to 50,000 hours and will need to be replaced much less often than standard bulbs.

By nature, two-prong outlets aren't grounded—but the box they run to might be, which makes them safer. The safest way to test if an outlet is grounded is to purchase a circuit tester, which cost about $20 at home improvement stores.

If you discover your outlet (or outlets) aren't grounded, know that this greatly increases your risk of personal injury and electrical fires. You may want to consider installing new three-prong ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets. On average, the cost to install GFCI outlets is about $210 per outlet.
