Had radon test done, and result was over 6.0.? Seller contacted Environmental Doctor for quote, (Brian Warner) and seller proposed to give us the money and we would have the work done when we moved in.? We agreed. I did some research on radon, and called Brian Warner to tell him that I wanted the system to mitigate the radon under 2.0.?? Upon hearing this, Brian got quite irate and started throwing things out at me such as \"that is not what I contracted for\" and \"in Europe they accept radon levels as high as 40\", etc.? My research had shown me that the World Health Organization recommends radon levels below 2, and that systems can mitigate levels very low depending on how the installation is done, size of the fan, etc.??Brian's extreme reaction got me very concerned, so I asked him to come out to the house.? When he arrived, he again got rather irate when he \"discovered\" that we only have half a basement, and the rest is on a crawl space.? Turns out, he had done the quote OVER THE PHONE, WITHOUT EVEN COMING TO THE HOUSE.? Huge, huge red flag. On top of that, he was not willing to stick with his written quote - we would to pay more. Then he absolutely insisted that the only way a system could be installed was to run the piping up the outside of the house.? Have you seen these?? They are an absolute eyesore.? I myself could pick out several places where the piping could be run inside the walls of our house, through the garage, and then up to the roof level.? He would have none of that.? Our real estate agent was with us, and he also shook his head in disbelief at this man's antics.I was left with the distinct impression that he was out to do the quickest, easiest, and cheapest job he could to maximize his profit.?? And I can only wonder how he got a license from the state.We went with Radon-X, and were extremely pleased.? They did everything right.? They came to the house to do an on-site inspection.? They designed a system that would mitigate our crawl space as well as the basement/rest of house.? Their system is inside the house walls, and exits at the correct level on the roof.? Their system cost only a few hundred dollars more. If Environmental Doctor disputes this review with saying \"Brian Warner does not work for us anymore\" I would not consider that a valid dispute.? Any company that lets their employees behave in a manner that violates Ohio radon licensing is a company that I would not trust."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/oh/dayton/environmental-doctor-reviews-432004.htm"},"position":2},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Sommers Window & Door LLC","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"OH","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Chris T."},"reviewBody":"Excellent service from Sommers Window & Door. Bob is professional, punctual, and does excellent work. We had Bob replace 5 windows last year and were so impressed/pleased with his work and the quality of the Anderson windows that we did not hesitate to use him again this year to replace the remaining 5 old windows in the house. He removed the old windows, installed the new windows and trimmed them out perfectly. He hauled away the old window debris and cleaned each room up nicely when done. We noticed a reduction in electric/propane costs last year with just half the windows replaced, look forward to further savings this year. Also, outside noise is much less noticeable (the neighbor has 3 Dobermans that bark a lot) We would highly recommend Anderson windows and Sommers WIndow & Door. They put the treated bait that the termites take back to the colony to kill it at that location. Since the first year I have paid for their annual contract renewal to keep the monitoring traps in place to make sure no termites show up. They monitor the traps monthly, and move or install new ones if foundations plantings or other changes around the house make new traps necessary. The Sentricon system is not cheap, but I believe only putting out poison where and when necessary is preferable to putting it everywhere. Also the idea of using a minimal amount that the termites take back to their colony where they feed it to each other to kill the colony seems to me the most effective and environmentally responsible way to deal with them. They made the job a little complicated. They had sent some of their people to a school, which was particularly for the job I wanted done. The people, who had worked on my water heater, had informed me that I get the extraction done instead of carpet cleaning. They informed me that it would work out to be much cheaper. So, I called these guys. They took off the carpets and they took the padding under the carpets. Then, they extracted the water. They threw the padding away. The cost included the taking out of the padding. I was asked to be gone for three days. They were afraid that the mold had gotten in there. They were all set to do a big treatment, but I guess they could tell from my skeptical nature that I did not want it done. They had the instruments to check if the mold had gotten in to the wood work. The instruments could detect the level of moisture in the carpets. They stuck it down in the carpets and detected where the moisture was. It seemed to be accurate because I knew where the water had spilled and how far it had gotten by the time I had called them. So, I did not need further treatment. I am not sure how accurate these things are, but they claim that they are trained in a school on such things. I thought that the price was a little high, but they did a good job; it was not totally unreasonable. I was satisfied with the results. I do not how far they would have gone and how much the work would have cost if I had not been suspicious. I do know that mold can be a problem in flooded areas. It can get to be dangerous in some cases. I do not know if the three days that I had gone away were enough, but I do know that they were really concerned about it. Had they found different results or had I not got suspicious, the $200 might have escalated to a higher amount. I would advice anybody using them for extraction to be careful. I do not think that all the carpet cleaning companies do extraction because there are a lot of details involved in it. A lot of them do not have humidifiers anymore. I had called a number of carpet cleaning companies found on Angie’s List and a lot of them do not do extraction anymore. On the other hand, when I called this company, they had a whole department for extraction. They have gone into it in a big way. I am not sure if what they are doing is legitimate or not. I am not accusing them of anything, but I think people would worry about whether it is all true or not. I am just saying that I do not know anything and so, I did not let them do anything more than extraction. I got an installer from another carpeting company to put in a new padding and packed down with the carpet. With Stanley Steemer, I would say that they did what they said they were going to do. Their responsiveness was fine. They came out very soon after I called them. They were on time. At another time, they also would have supplied the padding and installed the same, which I had another installer do. They advised me that if they did the installation, them the price would have been higher. So, they did warn me about that and I followed their advice. I would say they seemed to be extremely professional. I think they may have overdone the explanation of what the mold would do. On the other hand, maybe it was their job to make sure I understood all that. I would use them again in the future."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/oh/troy/stanley-steemer-reviews-309609.htm"},"position":5}]}

FAQs for radon detection and reduction projects in Jamestown, OH
If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.
You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.
Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.
Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.
In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
