"Young man named Mike came out and installed a faucet for my elderly grandmother. He was kind, helpful, and very respectful of my grandmothers home. I have, and would again, recommended Bowers Mechanical to friends looking for excellent customer service and professional plumbing needs??"

"It went extremely well. Steve was out to my home in 30 minutes and explained what he was doing through the whole process. They used several procedures to find the leak location and then drilled 3 very small holes in the slab to pinpoint the exact location. He said if the the leak is under tile they can usually drill through the grout. That made me feel so much better as I didn't want holes all over my house. It went very well and I will certainly use them again. Called the plumbers and it was exactly where he said it was and my leak is now fixed."

"Here is the rest of the story - last April I had a bathroom remodeled.  It included removing the horrid old tub/surround and replacing it with a custom tiled walk-in shower.  The shower pan was that smooth river rock.  From the get go, the shower pan was never right. First, the grout was so much it practically covered all the river rock; second, the drain was never flush with the floor and water never drained well because the rock was built up around the drain; and 3rd (and worst) water started pooling at the back of the shower.  I guess puddles is a better way to describe it.  In July the problem of the pooling water was worse - if you took a shower at night, the water would still be there in the morning.  I called the company who did the work and they came out to look and I was told, "concrete takes 90 days to cure" and it's settling and that's why the pooling.  The guy came back to "fix" the pooling and removed a couple of pieces of rock and re-tiled and grouted but the problem remained.  At the same time I had asked that the curb (the step over part) be raised a couple of inches, which he did.  Fast forward to September. 2013.  The pooling water was still there - the shower floor was still wet 12 hours after the shower and the grout was discoloring reddish.  I was tired of having an ugly "new " shower so I went on Angie's List and found Jonas Jensen.  I wanted the shower pan re-done (and this time no river rock, just 2x2 tiles).  Jonas came out exactly when he said he would, gave me an estimate, I was impressed with his knowledge (and he was very polite as he looked at the shower pan, but I'm sure all the time he was thinking that it was not a very good job), and he started the demo on Monday Sept. 9 at 8:30am.  At 11am he called me at work to say there was a problem.  As he was demo-ing the shower pan, tiles were too easily breaking and coming off the walls and the curb. He found a bare 2x4 piece of wood where the curb had been made taller. There was little mortar under the tiles, and waterproofing was not done correctly. Jonas said that in all good faith he could not continue because he thought whoever did the original job did not do it right and that I should call them.  After over a year of living with it  (and remembering all the construction, dust, disruption, and coming back a second time, etc.) I really did not feel like dealing with them again. But Jonas persisted (and he said that I should not have to pay for someone else to fix a job that was not done right the first (or second) time.  So I reluctantly called and the next day a guy from the original company came out and said I had a "two year extended warranty" and that while they do not give money back they would fix the problem for free.  He did not admit that the guy who did the original job messed up (twice) but could see for himself the bare 2x4 on the curb and noted there was not a lot of mortar on the tiles. I agreed to allow them to re-do the shower pan even though I was ready to wash my hands of them and go with Jonas, someone I knew would do a great job - correctly - the first time.  What I did not expect was  that Jonas would insist that I go back to the original company and tell them to "make it right."  AND I CERTAINLY DID NOT EXPECT THAT JONAS WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE WORK HE ALREADY STARTED.  To find someone that forthright and honest and professional needs to be recognized - and recommended.  (Of course this review is being written before the shower pan is done - for the third time - so I will reserve judgment on that - and plan to update my review from last year on that company). I will definitely use Jonas for any future tiling work although hopefully it won't be for tiling a shower pan for the 4th time... If you look on his website you can see the pictures of his beautiful work. "Alvin was careful to explain prior to starting work that if he required extra supplies, etc it would be on top of the Angie's price. Also, that there was the possibility that it would not be a simple replacement. I expected that. The replacement turned out to be more complicated than I'd anticipated.
The plumbing pipes for hose bibbs are installed between the vertical studs. There is supposed to be a horizontal cross brace that secures the "inside" part of the bibb  with 2 screws into the wood. Turns out, when the house was built in 1997, no cross bracing was added inside the wall, so the unsupported pipe had been shifting each time we turned the faucet on or off for the past 17 years. So, when he went to remove the outside portion, instead of "unthreading" as it should have,  the copper pipe broke off at the joint inside the wall. In order to complete the repair, Alvin needed to make an access port on the interior wall. He very carefully sawed an 8x8" piece out of the drywall, added a wood cross brace to the existing framing, secured the plumbing pipe to it, then attached the new hose bibb on the outside. After completing the repair, he carefully re-fitted the piece to the wall and used some caulk I had to cover the seam.
We were charged only for the difference in supplies, not for the additional time involved, which I was grateful for. I was also relieved that we had decided to have this done. I hate to think about some day going out to turn the hose on or off and have a fountain inside the wall.
I felt he handled the situation very well, explaining to me along the way what the problem was and how he would fix it.

"I cannot praise this business highly enough! My swamp cooler died on me, so I called PHC on Friday, they had a technician out at my house to look at my system and give me a free estimate by the following Monday. I was able to order the swamp cooler I wanted, and have it installed by the end of the week. It was very affordable, and everyone I talked to throughout this process was pleasant and professional, and they took the time to answer any questions I had. I will be going to PHC Systems for all of my heating and cooling needs in the future."

Sink Installation questions, answered by experts

While you can put Drano in a sink with standing water, most plumbers don’t recommend doing so. It usually doesn’t help to clear the clog, and you’ll end up with a sink full of standing water plus a toxic chemical—which is very unpleasant to deal with and best handled by a professional.

Older faucet fixtures may have some corrosion, leaving them stuck. Try a few techniques to loosen the fixtures.

  • Wrap the fixture with a towel and tap the base with a hammer.

  • Use a putty knife to gently remove any caulk that may be holding the handle or fixture in place.

  • Apply a few drops of penetrating oil around the base of the fixture or around the nuts.

  • Purchase a faucet pulling tool to pop the fixture loose.

Today’s standard sink stopper size is 1.5 inches. However, you can still find different sizes if your house uses an older sink stopper. Other sizes you can find in most hardware stores include one inch, 1-1/4 inch, 1-3/8 inch, 1-5/8 inch, 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch, 2-1/4 inch, 2-3/8 inch, and 2.5 inch.

The best place for a kitchen sink drain is the middle of the sink. Most people prefer center drains because they allow for better water and waste drainage, and the center location limits splashing because water flows straight down the drain hole. If the sink drain is too close to the edge of the sink, water can collect and drain too slowly. It can also be easier to clean sinks when the drain is closer to the center since debris is easier to wash down and doesn’t collect along the sides as easily.

The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.
