"The top ten reasons I recommend Sun Rise Roofing: 10: Sun Rise kept the lines of communication open. Staff responded fully and promptly to requests for information and patiently and reassuringly to statements of concern. 9: The estimator did not use hard sell tactics. He simply made himself available when needed. 8: Sun Rise charged a fair price. Their estimate was neither the highest nor the lowest of nine I received. 7: All employees were unfailingly courteous. 6: The project took as long as was needed. Because it rained for the better part of two days after work began, the project took one week. My roof was completed before Sun Rise focused on other projects. 5: The roofers worked long and hard. They showed up early, began work immediately, and when weather permitted, worked ten or more hours a day. 4: All employees went above and beyond the call of duty. For example, when, in late afternoon on the first day of work, rain was first predicted for following day, the roofers worked into the early evening to ensure that my roof was "buttoned up tight." 3: The owner, an experienced and talented roofer, worked with his crew each day, personally supervising and ensuring high quality work. 2: Sun Rise delivered what was promised. The project began as predicted, the price was as estimated, and the product was as described. 1: Sun Rise delivered high quality work. Indeed, the roofers met and exceeded my exacting expectations. Among other things, TPO seams were tight, pitch was consistently improved, and the worksite was left in a pristine state. Custom work on the mansard roof's coping metal is nothing short of extraordinary."

"The project went very well. It was complicated due to having solar panels that needed to come down so that the roof could be fixed. I had to find the correct company that could do this which delayed starting and required coordination. Once I found the company for the solar panels, Mike spoke with them to determine the best roofing for under the panels and to coordinate schedules so the project would be completed quickly. Mike and his crew are very professional. They arrived promptly when scheduled and cleaned up. I was very pleased with their work!"

"Ken from A Honable Roofing came out and showed me all the places that Invigorating Roofing missing and why the roof is leaking. He's going to give an estimate to repair and some of the skylight covers. He seemed very honest to me, so will probably hire them. I don't want to have anything to do with Invigorate roofing. So this will be coming out of my pocket. Since Invigorate roofing never addressed my concerns and insurance company paid them. I'll probably never hear from them again."

"Grace Builders replaced our tar & gravel roof with a complete new TPO system. The project had several unique challenges due to roof slopes, HVAC equipment, and partitions. We received proposals from 8 local roofers and ultimately chose Grace Builders because of their approach and overall value. Noemi, the owner, spent time with us answering questions and addressing any concerns we had before the job started. Her crew is very experienced and extremely hard-working. Noemi was on site to inspect and check progress regularly. I am very pleased with our new roof and highly recommend Grace Builders."

"They provided a free roof inspection, provided a lot of information about roofing options, roofing materials out there, what to expect. They advised me about other roofers that are basically brokers that might resell my roofing job to a cheapest sub. Flat Roofing Experts has employees that are trained, workers comp insured, and experienced. Im very happy with all work done on my flat roof. Highly recommend!!! Thank You Flat Roofing Experts."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Technically, a flat roof can be raised, but it’s extremely expensive, and there would not be much of a point. Most homeowners raise the roof in their homes to access the space between their existing ceiling and the roof, but flat roofs don’t have this space. Therefore, you can raise a flat roof, but it involves heavy structural modification.

A metal roof can last anywhere from 15 to over 100 years, with an average of 50 years, depending on the material, installation, and environment. The specific metal is a key factor: aluminum roofs may last 20 to 45 years, while steel can last 30 to 60 years. Tin can last for up to 75 years, and more durable options like zinc, stainless steel, and copper can last from 80 to over 100 years. Factors that can shorten a metal roof's lifespan include living in a coastal region with corrosive salt air, improper installation (such as laying over old shingles), and failing to inspect and replace fasteners, which may wear out before the panels.

Thatched roofs last for between 30 and 50 years in most cases, which is longer than most asphalt roofs. However, getting that life span from your thatched roof requires more maintenance than you’d need for most other materials, including fireproofing, brushing, cleaning, and rethatching as the material gets worn down. You’ll also need routine inspections to ensure you’re not at risk of leaks.

The lifespan of an impact-resistant roof averages 30 to 50 years, depending on the quality of the shingles and the amount of wear and tear it endures. Some high-quality shingles may last even longer. For comparison, a standard asphalt roof lasts about 20 years, so choosing an impact-resistant option can increase your roof's lifespan by 50% or more, particularly in regions prone to extreme weather.

If you live on the West Coast or anywhere with the threat of wildfires, you likely want to take steps to fireproof your home. Besides waterproofing and life span, rubber roofing also is noted for being fire resistant. Consult a professional roofer for details on what type of roofing would be best for you if fire resistance is a priority.
