"Circuit breaker in garage was intermittently tripping. Scheduled appointment and received confirmation email for 3 PM on Monday, 3/4/2019. Receive call at 9:26 AM that technician is at my door. They mistakenly set the appointment for 10 AM. No problem, I took leave from work to meet them. They conducted somewhat superficial inspection concluding that there may be an overload (15-amp circuit) and that one of the connected appliances was culprit. They measured amps being pulled by only one appliance (mini-fridge at 4 amps) and concluded it must be the cause. I permenantly unplugged fridge and they installed new circuit breaker. They also closed off an outlet on a different circuit that was connected to a light switch in a different room (previous homeowners feculent install). Charge was $96.55; they did not charge for the new circuit breaker. I head back to work. Return home around 4:30 PM and circuit breaker has tripped again. I call Clayton (service tech) at 4:46 PM and ask him to advise. We conclude that I should systematically diagnose each appliance on my own to see which could be causing overload. I do so and determine that no matter which single appliance is plugged in, the circuit breaker still trips intermittently. I call Albuquerque Plumbing at 10:59 AM on Wednesday, 3/6/19 to request either a refund or to have technician diagnose further. Customer representative states that if they send out a tech, they charge an hourly fee of $110 no matter what, even though original diagnosis was seemingly not thorough nor conclusive enough to perform the work that was done. I state I will have a different company perform diagnosis and representative responds that if another company alters work performed by Albuquerque Plumbing, it will void their warranty (which makes sense, but I’m not concerned about a warranty on work that didn’t resolve the problem). I have a gentleman named Joe Wojcik with Powerhouse Electric come to diagnose. He spent 2.5 hours diagnosing everything on the circuit very thoroughly and was very professional. At the time, we thought cause was a loose connection at GFCI outlet. Charge was only $75. Ultimately, this didn’t resolve the tripping breaker. After posting initial review of service, Albuquerque Plumbing called and asked if they could come back out to diagnose further at no additional cost. I agreed. They spent about 1.5 hours diagnosing the circuit and all connections thoroughly but were still unable to reach a confident conclusion. We parted company under the impression that one of my tenants must be plugging in a malfunctioning appliance on occasion that is shorting and tripping the breaker. About 15 minutes after they leave, the breaker tripped while I was standing in front of the panel. This was perfect because I was able to determine that no one was using any appliance on the circuit at that time. knowing this, I was able to unilaterally diagnose certain lines on the circuit by disconnecting them and waiting to see if breaker trips. I believe I have isolated the problem cable on the circuit and will have it replaced."

"Title: Exceptional, trustworthy plumbing — highly recommended Galactic Mechanical & Plumbing exceeded every expectation. After a frustrating runaround with other companies, Jordan drove up from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, waived the trip charge, and quickly diagnosed that I only needed a faucet fixture (not a full sink). He went to Home Depot, installed the new fixture, fixed a few other small issues, and left everything working — all billed fairly for one hour of labor. Jordan was professional, efficient, and honest; Megan in the office was courteous and helpful. As a longtime local with two homes, I’m already planning to use Galactic as my go-to plumber. Highly recommend them for reliable, respectful, and skilled service. Thank you, Jordan."

"They did the upgrade and I don't believe we ever got the audit. They did an okay job. The house hasn't burned down. They were very timely. They seemed to know what they were doing. They did everything that I had asked them to do. Of course, I had to wait around for the inspector to come but that didn't have anything to do with them. I'd say the whole job was wrapped up in probably under three hours. I was pretty, I'm not going to say impressed, but they came out and did their job; they were easy to work with. If I had to do another job I would hire them again. For what they did, and as expensive of a job that they did, I thought it would take a lot longer. I had them run some new circuits on top of just the panel upgrade. I thought it was a little expensive for the panel upgrade; just for a fifty amp upgrade. But they did do the extra work that was included and also supplied the breakers and everything too, so that was all included. I know they were probably pretty busy with that offer, but it actually took some time for them to get back to me and set up an appointment. I think I would use them again. I really can't think of anything where I would need any kind of extensive work like that done, but I would. If I was really looking for somebody again, I probably would."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Solar roofing shingles may qualify for significant federal tax incentives through programs like the Residential Clean Energy Credit, which offers up to 30% of installation costs through 2032. State and local governments often provide additional credits, and utility companies may offer further rebates or net metering programs, depending on the state. Just look into the qualification requirements beforehand because installation, documentation, and technical standards can impact eligibility. Consult the current guidelines and a tax professional to maximize available benefits.

The average homeowner needs around 22 solar panels, but the exact number depends on your monthly energy consumption. Your solar professional should size your array to offset your consumption, meaning you’ll need fewer panels if you use below-average amounts of electricity, or more than 22 if you use above-average amounts of electricity. The number of panels also depends on the output of each panel. The average is around 400 watts, but you might need more panels if you install less capable equipment. Since there are so many variables, you should have a professional size your system.

Yes, a solar panel can power a TV without a battery, but only if the sun is shining and the panel is generating enough energy. Your solar panel and TV must have the same voltage, and you should install a charge controller and inverter between them so power surges don’t destroy your TV. To watch TV at night, in the early morning and late afternoon, and on cloudy days, your home must be tied to the power grid.

If you’re deciding between a solar battery versus a generator for the best backup power solution, you can take a few factors into consideration. Solar batteries are quiet while generators can be quite loud. Generators have a lower up-front cost, but they require fuel and ongoing maintenance while solar batteries are more expensive but don’t have many ongoing costs.

Homeowners replace their solar panels after 25 years. That said, you don’t necessarily need to replace them at the 25-year mark. You’ll notice a declining ability to produce electricity over time. Most homeowners spring for a replacement when they notice their energy bills creeping up to regular levels or when solar panel repairs are extensive, frequent, and no longer economical.
