"Brad came by to inspect our very old water softener that had stopped working. He determined it needed to be replaced and had a new one installed for us the following Monday. He was very informative and didnâ t charge us an arm and a leg. I highly recommend Maineâ s Best Water Treatment."

"The team is amazing. Formerly known as Atlas, H2O Care is professional and technical. I had many, many questions since I'm installing an new heating and hot water system. The newer technology is higher efficiency, so need to pay more attention to water quality. The tech team is fabulous, especially David who put up with my many, many questions. Highly recommended, especially in areas with very hard water."

"The job was done right, even to perfection. I am very impressed with all the aspects getting this done. From getting a txt starting the conversation early in the day as I had a very open schedule to completion before noon the same day! His knowledge proved to me I made a great choice and I will absolutely contact them again for other water and plumbing I will need done. This was a very satisfying experience. I will sleep good tonight as water supply issues are something you cannot ignore. Contact Ardito & sons for your water supply needs, you will not be sorry."

"I didn't like the fact I was going to be charged a fee to have them come to my home to see what I needed. I would recoup the fee if I hired them, but if I didn't, I lost over $80. I went with a company that provided a quote based on my water analysis and did not charge me any upfront fee."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes. To get soft water, you can install a water softening system, which will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with sodium or potassium ions. Water softeners cost anywhere from $200 to $6,000, depending on the size and complexity of the system. You can either install a water softener for the whole house or just at your shower heads. If you’re sensitive to sodium or potassium, you can install a salt-free water conditioner.

To get utilities set up on a property, you first have to contact the local department of planning to determine whether your property is able to connect to public utilities. From there, you can work with a structural engineer and/or a building contractor to design the layout of utility lines on the property. The pros will need this information as they begin securing building permits before they can start adding lines.

If your property isn’t able to connect to public utilities, you’ll need to consider working with pros to develop a comfortable off-grid home that will meet your needs.

A lower-end water softener would cost around $900, not including installation. Each home has different requirements, water hardness, and number of inhabitants, so there’s a huge range in pricing—$600 to over $6,000. The average water softener repair bill is around $500, meaning it’s a much better option to repair any issues and only replace your softener if absolutely necessary.

A tankless water heater should be at least 10 feet away from a water softener, although the pros you hire for water softener installation can help you determine the correct distance. These two units need to have some distance between them to prevent hot water from the tankless water heater from flowing backward into the water softener when it runs a regeneration cycle.

Water purifiers and water softeners serve different purposes, so the best one will depend on your particular needs. Water purifiers remove contaminants from water (such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals), leaving you with ultra-clean and safe water. However, water softeners remove minerals from your water so that the water doesn’t leave stains around your house or cause plumbing problems.
