"Everything went according to plan. Crawlspace insulation was replaced and closed space was sealed up. A air inducer was also installed. The environment is totally different down there now and is much closer to the temperature of the house. I kept my vapor barrier the same."

"Insulation Commandos insulated my garage drywall, and I had a great experience working with them. Tony was especially helpful in explaining the available options and recommending the solution that best fit my garage and specific needs. He was knowledgeable, professional, and even managed to fit me into his schedule on short notice, which I greatly appreciated."

"I contacted 6 other contractors to foam insulate a home addition that I am building. One gave me a price and then later told me he couldn't do it and gave my name to another contractor I had not interviewed and this contractor wanted to charge more. Another sent out a man who knew nothing about insulation and this rep told me only that he used to install pools had no tapes, etc.. James Ivey came out and it was clear that he knew his business. He measured up the work, gave me a fair price and completed the work and provided the data sheets for inspection. Work was done professionally, on time and no problem with inspection. After dealing with many other contractors, I can save you some time. Hire James and his company. He knows what he is doing. Passed inspection and MY inspection in a breeze."

"These guys did good job with my crawl space. They had to remove a lot of very moldy insulation in space that was crawl only height. They showed up when they said, confirmed and best of all the price was reasonable. Prices were all over for this job and while theirs was most affordable, the work was well done. Professional and trustworthy. They were also competent, efficient and came with the needed respirator, and Tyvek suit to handle this toxic job. Thanks JImmie!"

"We recently worked with Evergreen Foam & Insulation on a new construction project where they applied spray foam insulation to the walls and roof deck. Their team was professional, efficient, and maintained clear communication throughout the process. The quality of their work met our expectations, and they completed the job on schedule without any issues. The attention to detail during application was excellent, and the site was left clean and ready for the next phase of construction. We’re pleased with the results and look forward to working with Evergreen Foam & Insulation on future projects."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.

The lifespan of crawl space insulation depends on how well you maintain your insulation and the type of insulation. Fiberglass will need replacing every 15 to 20 years on average if you don't have a vapor barrier in place. If you do have vapor barriers in place, then your insulation could last much longer. Spray foam insulation can last anywhere from 80 to 100 years.

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

If you’re using faced insulation with paper, face the paper toward the inside of the room during the installation process.

A good way to remember this is that the paper should face the “warm side” as it’s the vapor barrier, meaning it should face toward where the heat will be coming from.

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.
