"I contacted The Crack Team for foundation wall crack waterproofing after finding water near our utility lines and basement corner. They arrived on time, answered all my questions, and did clean work. What impressed me most was how respectful and honest the crew was throughout the whole process. The leaking stopped completely and the area looks great now."

Customers say: Quick response

"The job involved 2 brick paver walkways that needed to be completely redone and expanded. This father and son were a pleasure to work with. Very detailed in exactly what they would do, we left the pattern up to them and it turned out beautiful. They were there every morning and put in a full day. Completed the job 2 days ahead of time. They were both really detailed oriented. When they left the yard was spotless. They even power washed the driveway where they cut the bricks. We have worked with alot of contractors over the years. I cant say enough about how happy we are with their work. I would use them again in a heartbeat. We live on a corner so their work is on display on the side street side of the house. We have already had people stop and tell us how beautiful it looks."

"Greg and his team provided a great quote for a poured concrete driveway and stamped concrete patio well below other quotes we received. He was very responsive as to the work dates due to rain and the job was done quickly. Greg was able resolve an issue with the concrete color and we get compliments from all our neighbors on how great the job looks."

"I had both some masonry and roofing done. The estimate was reasonable and so was the final price. Greg and his crew were very professional, tidy, friendly, and did their jobs well. I am happy with my garage roof and the masonry work they did on both the garage and chimney. I would absolutely recommend this company!"

"I am a licensed structural engineer, and I hired Russ because it was very clear that he knows what he is doing. He properly sized and reinforced new concrete foundations and masonry piers. And, to his credit, he would not build new foundations on saturated soil because soil is weaker when wet - Russ waited until the soil was dry enough to safely build on, to make sure things went right. Russ made sure I was satisfied throughout the entire process. He maintained communication with me so I could plan accordingly for the work to happen. His crew was mindful, professional and courteous. They cleaned up after their work, patched a minor issue with a duct that was in their way, and warned me to close my windows when they needed to sawcut masonry blocks, to prevent dust and noise in the house. His son was part of the team at my house each day and is equally committed to the work. Russ was on site for all 3 of the days required to finish my work, and he came out again at the end to discuss the results and give me my invoice. My single word of caution to other customers is just to be aware that simply because of Russ' expertise, he is busy with other jobs, at least in summer 2016. He will work with you to determine priority and your job will get done, and done RIGHT, but you may need to be a little patient due to his other jobs or weather. Talk with him about this if you are concerned about timeline. I hired him in spring/summer so other work is probably at a maximum during this time. All in all, I would absolutely hire him again and have already recommended to a friend. Russ is committed to making you happy, and his rate was much better than the competition."

"Matt K and his crew did a very thorough job with interior and exterior work to waterproof our foundation and basement. They were running behind on another job so were a bit delayed in getting started but made up for it by working through part of the weekend to finish up."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on material type, labor, chimney requirements, and structural reinforcements.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

When painting brick, each application method has pros and cons. Spraying is much faster but may not penetrate the porous surface of the bricks. Rolling is effective for getting paint into the bricks but doesn't work as well on the mortar. Brushing is very time-consuming and also won't penetrate beyond the surface. For the best results, a combination of spraying and rolling is often recommended. If you use a roller, choose a thick option (at least a half-inch) and ensure the paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

Not all cracks in brick indicate foundation problems. For instance, small hairline cracks can occur as a new construction settles. However, larger cracks are often a sign of a more severe issue. Indicators of a potential foundation problem include long horizontal cracks, "stair-step" cracks, vertical cracks that appear indoors, or any crack that widens at the top. Other signs of structural damage to look for are uneven floors and doors or windows that stick. These issues could be caused by problems with the soil beneath the home or an overgrown tree.
