"I contacted The Crack Team for foundation wall crack waterproofing after finding water near our utility lines and basement corner. They arrived on time, answered all my questions, and did clean work. What impressed me most was how respectful and honest the crew was throughout the whole process. The leaking stopped completely and the area looks great now."

"Project leader - Art - was great to work with. Everyone associated with the project was low pressure and lived up to their commitments. 3 man crew show up on time, got done early, and cleaned up area before leaving. Only drawback was pricing but quality of the project helped offset higher cost."

"Absolutely excellent service! After noticing that water was coming into my chimney when it rained, I started seeking inspections and estimates to figure out the scope of the problem. Pisani Contracting was the only one that offered a range of work options, rather than only the most drastic and expensive one, and while I did opt in the end to have the chimney rebuilt rather than patched, the offer was much appreciated. Despite the crazy conditions of late 2021, between weather delays due to rain, material shortages, and a packed schedule of work, Greg and his crew managed to fit the repair in and completed it in just two days. The whole team was very professional, and on top of the chimney work, they even touched up a few spots of masonry around the exterior of the house! The final product looks amazing, and it completely fixed the issues I was having. I would recommend Pisani Contracting to anyone looking to get an estimate on work done, and should I need any further repairs at my house, I will give them a call first thing. Just make sure you call from a Michigan number: having moved from out of state, the cell phone I use for most calls does not have a Michigan area code, and every time I called trying to schedule an estimate, the call went to voice mail; it was only when I called from my work number, which does have a Michigan area code, that I was able to get through to set things up. I'm glad I did, though, since I'm extremely pleased with the work done!"

"We were extremely pleased with the mortar tuck work done by Dave with JF Masonry and Tile LLC. Jimmy came out quickly and gave us a very reasonable estimate. The work was done professionally, and all cleanup was included. They even evaluated our chimney cap and made an additional repair. We would definitely recommend this company. BJ of Canton Michigan"

"Eric at Perma-Dry did an amazing job repairing over 20 tie rod holes in our basement . He was very informative in both his assessment and explanation of the repairs. He was very thorough, and did the job fairly quickly without sacrificing quality. We were also quoted over e-mail from Mike (the owner of Perma-Dry) based on a few photos we sent, and Eric matched that quote. I would highly recommend for any waterproofing or foundation repairs."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, but used or reclaimed bricks can be more brittle, cracked, or uneven than new bricks, so they’re harder to cut cleanly by hand. For that reason, you should take extra care when scoring and striking, and expect a higher chance of breakage. If a brick feels especially fragile, score deeper before attempting to split it.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. For maintenance, masonry will need repointing or replacing as damage or land shifting occurs, whereas stucco will need patching or refinishing as it tends to crack over time along with other types of wear-and-tear.

Mortar is a mixture of sand and cement that binds materials, such as bricks, stones, and concrete blocks, together. Think of it as the glue that fills in the gaps between bricks and stones, then seals them in place to prevent damage or deterioration. Mortar also helps spread the load across a wall or structure, keeping cracks and shifting at bay.
