"Was polite and professional but didn't have the tools needed to properly unclog my underground gutter drain which was clogged with roots. Tried a mechanical auger that he had but that was all he could do and only pulled thin roots which helped but didn't completely unclog the drain."

"Star Plumbing came out on a Sunday evening at exactly the agreed upon time. He was very pleasant, professional and knowledgable however he did not have the equipment necessary to clear my clogged drain. His longest snake was 50' long and the clog was more than 50' from the snake's entry point into the drain system. He initially tried to clear the drain with his 25' snake and when that did not work he used his 50' snake. When that did not work he called a colleague with another company and asked him to come out the next day. Star Plumbing did not accept any money for his attempt to clear the clog. The colleague he called arrived the next day at the time agreed upon and was able to clear the clogged drain."

"David & his team with Arcelio did an outstanding job! We needed it done on short notice & they rose to the occasion. And just before a weekend of heavy rains. So our basement went from waterfalls of leaks to dry as a bone, despite the heavy flooding outside. They took lots of pictures of the process so we could see all the work they did underground. They were reasonably priced & did the job done with good attention to detail & pleasing aesthetics with the river stone. We love that they guarantee their work. We're very grateful to have chosen Drainage & Erosion Solutions. We kept seeing their signs & trucks in the Del Ray, Alexandria neighborhood over the years & we can see why others chose them, also."

"Kap from Joseph Plumbing and Drain was great. I requested a quote Saturday morning and they came out within a few hours. We scheduled the work for Friday and they arrived on time, were friendly and professional, and did excellent work installing my new main water shut-off valve. Highly recommend."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

Your dishwasher drain hose may have a clog if your dishwasher is full of water, your dishes aren’t getting cleaned, or water takes a long time to discharge into the garbage disposal.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.

Yes, flushing a clogged toilet can make it overflow. While flushing the toilet may push enough pressure through the system to dislodge the clog, this is unlikely. Your best bet is to use a plunger and hope the suction can break up whatever is blocking the pipe. If this doesn’t work, use a plumbing auger or call a pro to help.

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.

Biodegradable drain cleaners use naturally derived ingredients, such as baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water, which bacteria and other microbes can break down. Unlike conventional cleaners that rely on corrosive bleach (sodium hydroxide), biodegradable options are gentler on fixtures and less harmful to the environment. Because they don't release harmful gasses, they are also safer to use, especially in households with children, and do not require the same safety precautions as bleach-based products.
