"Nicolle Paint did an outstanding job for us. We live in an older home which has plaster walls and ceilings. Over the last several years we have noticed cracks and crevices in our downstairs ceilings that were getting larger with each passing year. Moyses from Nicolle Paint came out and identified the problem and gave us a fair and competitive estimate. They started their work after completely containing the affected rooms with tape and drop clothes. When they finished, we were amazed and wished we had done the repairs sooner. The ceilings are now smooth, and with a fresh coat of paint. They did a great job of cleaning up afterwards. We can't thank Moyses enough. We highly recommend Nicolle Paint."

"To start, this was the third handyman I tried to get. The first two basically did not respond after multiple attempts. Reviewing Bill's website, he stated that email would be the best method to contact him. I appreciated that. He responded the evening I sent the first email. He asked for additional information to help determine the extent. This save both him and me from having to waste time meeting at my house. I provided pictures of the situation as well as pictures of other houses in the neighborhood with similar situations. He kept me informed of his schedule during the next couple of days. The only difficulty was when he informed me the day before that he would be coming the next morning. It caused me to have to ask for time off from work on short notice and I didn't have time to square it with my next door neighbor as I live in a townhouse and the problem demanded placing the ladder on their driveway.. He arrived at the time specified, reviewed the actual situation, made a plan after a discussion, and bought the necessary materials. Other than volunteering to help with hold the ladder, Bill knew what he was doing and patched the gap to my satisfaction. The entire process took about two hours, which was less than his estimated time."

"In the past, we’ve typically hired general contractors based on solicitations at our home. This has unfortunately resulted in more than a few misses. But we went through Angi this time and the pro we chose, Omar’s General Contracting, was definitely a hit. Omar was professional and communicative. His crew was great. On time, very tidy, reasonably priced, flexible, and a perfect finished product. We hired them on Sunday and they started on Monday. In two days, Omar and his crew were able to basically rebuild our entire eat-in kitchen ceiling following a large plumbing project. I honestly think it looks better now than it did before the work. Amazing. We wont be needing referrals for general contractors in the future. We’ve found our company. Thank you for the great referral, Angi and team."

Small jobs welcome

"PatchWorx.pro was awesome. They got someone out quickly, and the professional they sent did an excellent job. He took obvious pride in doing things right, and actually stayed to redo the painting because it bubbled a bit during drying. Our ceiling looks great, and we would absolutely hire PatchWorx.pro again. Thank you!"

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it is worth removing popcorn ceilings because they are considered outdated and can make a home more difficult to sell. Buyers typically prefer a smooth, modern finish, so removing the texture can increase a home's value and appeal. The necessity can sometimes depend on the housing market; in a competitive market, buyers may be more willing to overlook minor renovations. The most critical factor is the potential presence of asbestos, which is common in older popcorn ceilings and poses a significant health hazard if the material deteriorates. If you know your ceiling contains asbestos, you are required to disclose this when selling, which can be a major deterrent for buyers. In this situation, it is highly recommended to have a professional remove or encapsulate the ceiling to resolve the issue before it impacts the sale.

Small repairs or applications can be DIY projects, but removing older textures, especially with safety risks, is usually left to professionals.

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.

Soundproofing enhances privacy, reduces ambient and external noise for improved concentration, and creates a more comfortable living environment, especially in noisy neighborhoods or busy households. Additionally, it can improve the audio quality in spaces like home theaters.

The average popcorn ceiling removal costs around $2,000, but prices can range from $950 to $3,100, depending on the size, accessibility, and whether or not there’s asbestos or lead paint.

We don’t recommend DIYing this project to save money, but you can DIY the prep work to speed things up. Consider removing furniture, ceiling lights, and other fixtures before the workers arrive on site. To be extra helpful, cover any remaining belongings with plastic tarps and secure them with tape.
