"Wilber’s painting repaired our textured basement ceiling and painted the entire ceiling. They came on time and were great to deal with. They helped discuss the situation with the insurance company, which helped us get everything approved in an expedited fashion. We would definitely recommend Wilber’s Painting to others!"

"Had a large and unsightly hole in the ceiling sheet rock in the bedroom (I'd Accidentally slipped off a beam in the attic and put my entire foot through the ceiling. Area needing repair ended up being about 4 ft square. Danny did a fantastic job end even matched the ceiling texturing. Absolutely outstanding work. I have a couple other home projects I'd like to get done and will definitely hire him again!"

"The crew did a great job painting and refinishing my front porch. They even patched up missing concrete bordering trim. I didn't think the house power-washing was needed until I saw the before and after difference !"

"All I can say is he is amazing. I had a complicated plaster need that had been poorly done by previous contractors and had reached the point of thinking a good looking ceiling was not possible. He proved me wrong and helped with other things and was flexible and helpful in every way possible. Hire him !!"

"We suffered some ice damming in the Feb '10 blizzard. This was the first major "incident" since we bought our house and Bill was a great person to work with in resolving it. I first contacted him when we needed to clear the roof, but he was booked solid. However, he was so helpful on the phone and I was so impressed with the reviews on his site that I kept him in mind when it came to the interior repair work. He was very patient with us in scoping out the project (we kept adding things to it) and was extremely flexible in working within our budget. His workmanship was excellent, especially the trim around the bay window. We left it up to him to find something that matched our existing trims and he customized a few pieces to make it very nice. Overall it took longer than we'd anticipated to get it all completed, but part of that has to do with our wait on the insurance estimate. Definitely give him a call."

"Gibbs work was high quality. He ensured all furniture was covered with a drop cloth when painting to ceiling and left eco ice and clean. The paint on the shutters look great!"

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Small repairs or applications can be DIY projects, but removing older textures, especially with safety risks, is usually left to professionals.

Because of the nature of the texture, it's common for the popcorn texture to loosen while painting. Popcorn ceilings are delicate, and using a heavy hand with a roller or applying overly wet paint can loosen the texture. To avoid a mess, handle the material gently with a roller or brush. It's also smart to test a small area first, and if the texture starts coming off, the ceiling may need repairs or sealing before painting.

While you should consult with a ceiling professional for larger cracks, especially if you’re not sure what’s causing your ceiling to crack, you can certainly try to repair small cracks on your own. If you’re up for the task, here’s how to repair ceiling cracks for $150 or less.

After removing any type of skylight, you have a few options for the ceiling. You can patch and repair the ceiling to match the surrounding area, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish. Alternatively, you can install a light fixture or a ceiling fan in place of the skylight to maintain functionality and enhance the room's lighting and ventilation. Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and the specific requirements of the space. No matter what you choose, you’ll probably want to call in a pro to help.

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.
