"Installed 4 ceiling fans and 1 chandelier. Excellent service, done in a timely manner. Arrived punctually and began work promptly. Used drop cloths to catch debris and cleaned up nicely. Friendly, polite and respectful. Price was as quoted and very reasonable for the service provide. Very flexible and even installed 1 additional ceiling fan for an additional fee. Worked thru a couple of challenges with bad parts supplied by the manufacturer with no problems, to get the job done. Good quality work, professionally done. Highly recommended."

"Basement was a mess. Owen's Corning came and did a fantastic transformation. We spend a lot of time down there now, where before it was just for storage."

"We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015 and with Javier in remodeling of 1 bathroom, construction of an outdoor shed, and finally remodeling of our 1st and 2nd floors. For details on this more recent 2022 project consult my review elsewhere on Anji. . The construction area consisted of two sides of the basement--the “finished” side for an office *** guest room plus a small hallway; the other, a larger “unfinished” side for storage. The project began by moving everything in the small hallway to other parts of the house. Then they cleared what would be the “finished” side of the basement moving the sofa bed, several desks, 3 bookcases, a couple office chairs, a table, several bookcases, 7 file cabinets, clothes and other items from the closet, and numerous boxes of books plus files removed from file cabinets to the other side of the basement or, when necessary, to other parts of the house, outdoor shed, and garage while they worked on the “finished” side. Some of the items in the “unfinished” side had to be moved out of the basement to another part of the house to make room for heavier items that could not be lugged upstairs without breaking someone’s back. Two more file cabinets that I had not yet emptied they moved on a dolly to the other side of the basement. I regretted having emptied the 7 other file cabinets so that even more boxes with file contents had to be carefully labelled and moved to the other side. That was my fault! It was a complex undertaking since we were adding to what was already stored on the “unfinished” side, but the men were creative, cooperative, and experienced in meeting the challenge with us. The work began on the “finished” side and small hallway with demolition of the existing ceiling and lighting. Once the men cleaned up that mess they installed electrical cabling, wood, and drywall for the ceiling. They repaired the 2 feet of drywall around the bottom perimeter of the wall. Once the basic structure was in place they applied 2 coats of plaster to the walls and ceiling, and then sanded them. They taped the corners and joints. Following our selection of paint, they applied primer on the walls and ceiling, sanded, and then applied 2 coats of off-white paint to the walls and ceiling. What a beautiful transformation of the walls! To prepare for the installation of the luxury vinyl tile floor planks on the “finished” side and hallway they evened out the existing concrete with additional concrete. They lay the beautiful, brownish-gray floor planks on the concrete floor. Javier convinced us that the brownish-gray would be a good selection and he was right. Then the men installed baseboards and shoe molding around walls of the finished side and hallway. At some point they installed 8 recessed lights. What amazing acoustics in that room while it was still empty! In the latter phase of the “finished” side Alvaro repaired, sanded, and painted the stairway and lay the luxury vinyl tile floor planks to the stairs. To match the stairway, he sanded and stained the stair railing to match the stairs. He also repaired, sanded, and painted the walls off-white on either side of the stairway and the ceiling. Finally he painted the door separating the basement and kitchen. What a major transformation of that stairway! We were so pleased with the results! In the next phase of the project we transferred our attention to the “unfinished” side. After covering all the furniture, boxes, etc. with plastic they installed electrical cabling, wood, and dry wall on the ceiling. Then they applied plaster to the ceiling, sanded it, primed and painted it with 2 coats of paint. Then they installed 11 recessed lights to what previously was a deep, dark dungeon. When that major work was completed and the plastic removed, they vacuumed the area as best they could and moved the furniture and some of the boxes and bins back to the “finished” side. After a gap in construction Alvaro installed four heavy-duty, industrial-welded, steel storage units with adjustable shelves along the walls of the “unfinished” side of the basement so we didn’t have to worry about flimsy shelves collapsing with the weight of heavy boxes and plastic bins. Gradually we filled the shelves and file cabinets, moving some items temporarily stored in other parts of the house back to the basement. Alvaro (?) also installed a steel storage unit at one end of the garage to hold our daughters’ heavy boxes, some of which had been moved out of the basement and were collapsing with the weight of far too many boxes stacked on each other. Thanks to Javier for that creative solution to the problem! The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not directly related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, installing hardwood/vinyl floors and lighting in the basement. Once the major work was done in the basement they went upstairs and moved some of the remaining displaced items to other parts of the house, garage, and shed. They installed a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector, secured 2 bookcases to the wall, installed 3 transition pieces on the floors beneath the doorways, and installed 3 dimmers for the lights. After completing most of the work in the basement they performed extra tasks not listed in the contract upstairs, tasks like tightening the screws in a door that would not close, installing a toilet seat, repairing a knob on one of our utility closets, and moving an office chair in the family room to the garage for goodwill. Fabio installed 4 internet connections: 2 in the basement, 1 in the family room on the ground floor, and 1 in the den on the second floor. Finally my husband and I could use our computers! Then when all was said and done the men installed dimmers swept and cleaned the two sides of the basement and hallway one last time. Muchas gracias to Alex and Wilmer for doing most of the moving, cleaning, and trash collection, to Alvaro and Cesar for doing the construction including installation of the shelving units, to Fabio for installing the 4 internet connections, and to Orlando and Jose for wrapping things up at the end. Bon trabajo! The quality of materials and workmanship on the basement remodeling was exceptional as we have come to expect of this company. And because we are an elderly couple we really appreciated the extra help in moving things around in the basement and around the house. The workmen were reliable, polite, honest, skilled, hardworking, and flexible in adjusting to additions and changes from time to time. They always took extra care to clean up at the end of the day and to pick up trash as it was collected. The price seems reasonable given the extra work not previously budgeted. Javier was great at planning, communicating, and allowing for extra time when we needed it to make decisions on where to put things or to do some of the moving ourselves, but he could certainly have benefited from having a right-hand man to assist him when he was not immediately available. We would highly recommend DMV for home remodeling projects. We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015 and with Javier in remodeling of 1 bathroom, construction of an outdoor shed, and finally remodeling of our 1st and 2nd floors. "When the owner came by to give me a quote he was punctual and very realistic about the possibilities of what could be found inside my ceiling and what the associated costs would be. Oscar was very Punctual as well when he came to do the repairs. He was very professional and it was very obvious that he took pride in his work and wanted to do a thorough job. After he opened my ceiling, it was apparent that it could have probably caved in at any moment. Looking at my ceiling you can’t even tell there was an issue."

"We chose VKB mainly on its reviews on this website. Overall the experience was very positive. We were pleased to learn that VBK did not charge a fee upfront to design the kitchen. Calvin (kitchen designer) made excellent suggestions to improve our original vision and was responsive to changes to the design. Calvin convinced us to choose wood floor and crown molding, and the type of range hood, and he was right on all counts! Because of the smooth design process with Calvin and reasonable price, we decided to sign on with VBK over other companies. The implementation phase had some bumps: the design drawings that Jason (project manager) and Ismar (crew leader) started with were not the updated version, but thankfully that was quickly rectified. In addition there were some misunderstanding on the scope of the painting area, but Calvin agreed to honor what we had discussed verbally, even though it was not spelled out in the contract. Jason listened and patiently explained the project process, and kept asking to make sure that we were happy with the progress. For example, he agreed to redo the placement of the undercabinet lights. He also accommodated our desire to donate our old cabinets to Habitat for Humanity, and Ismar and his crew carefully took the down the cabinets and stored them in our garage for pickup later in the week. Ismar, Luis, and the rest of the crew did a fantastic job installing and painting everything, and their experience showed in disguising the fact that our walls were not straight and the floor was not even. We were also impressed with the laser tools that they used to guide cabinet and light placements. The crew was careful, meticulous, and respectful, and they cleaned up throughly every day. There were other crews handling the flooring and countertops, who also did top notch work, and all were coordinated like clockwork by Jason. Along the way, we learned some lessons and offer the following advice: if you are particular about the placement of your celling lights, electrical outlets and switches, let the crew know, and they will do their best to accommodate. Also, pay attention to every single detail in the contract; if not specified, there can be a misunderstanding, and a deviation may require a change order and extra expense. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the excellent quality of the work, and even though there was a delay in the backsplash order, the job finished as projected. We definitely recommend VKB, and we love our new kitchen. Jason -- we are happy!"

"The planning and work done was outstanding. We had talked to 4 other remodelers and found WaterStone to be the most detailed and open to our needs. The finishes in the new bathroom are stunning. Even when the shower glass company came to install the glass they were so taken by the bathroom that they had to take pictures of the new shower. They could not believe the tile work. The counter top and cabinets are wonderful. So we are very pleased with WaterStone and would recommend they to everyone."

Customers say: True professional

"Devin Nasvaderani of Marvel Homes rebuilt my small bathroom
from subfloor to ceiling.  Water had
leaked down through the subfloor into the dining room downstairs, so the entire
bathroom had to be rebuilt.  I took
several months to talk to a number of contractors, and I am very glad I got
Devin.  Devin listened carefully to what
I wanted, making suggestions as requested but never trying to ?upsell? me.  As an old budget officer, I was determined to
make sure there were no surprises at the end, but not only was the work
completed on time and on budget, but the extra items I ended up asking for were
delivered at less than I had expected, and were done with the same excellent
quality as the scope work.  In some
cases, Devin advised me strongly that some work the other contractors said
would ?probably? be needed, was not needed.  His ?allowances? for tile and plumbing were
the only realistic such estimates I got from any contractor, and he passed on
his contractor discount to me at the tile and plumbing shops, allowing me to
build a very nice, quality bathroom at less than the originally estimated price
point.
The work quality was excellent, and his crew were
professional, polite, clean and non disruptive.
He managed to gain me several more inches inside the shower, put
insulation against the outside wall that the original home builder had not
bothered with, and generally fixed up all the weak points of the original
bathroom.  The bathroom, although small,
is the ?master bathroom? so the crew had to go through my bedroom to access it.  Each morning, they covered everything in my
room with plastic, put tarps from the front door to the bathroom, and every
evening removed everything and vacuumed, leaving my room absolutely clean each
night.  They were even fairly quiet,
considering the nature of the work. (the hammering etc sounded ?precise? and
methodical to my untrained ear, never just banging away.)  So, my highest recommendations for this work.

"Brought these guys in when the job was half finished by a relative who had been at it for 3 1/2 months.  The estimate was that it would take four days - it did.  They came when they said they would and cleaned up after themselves each day.  They pointed out imperfections in the wall that would need to be fixed before they could do the job properly.  Other tilers had missed this detail.  All that is left is for the glass enclosurre to be installed and they recommended the right people for that as well.  They are great to work with, exhibit integrity and character, and the results will not disappoint you.  What's not to love!

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Although texturing walls may not seem like a lengthy project, you’ll need to set aside between one and five days to complete it properly. The exact amount will depend on the scope of your project—one room will take less than a whole-house project. That will give you enough time for tasks that are time-consuming in and of themselves, like taping wall edges, priming the walls and letting them dry fully, and actually applying the texture and top or base paint coats.

Textured walls can increase the value of your home if the style is modern and seen as a desirable feature and not something a prospective buyer would need to remedy. A good example of this is popcorn texture versus Venetian plaster. The plaster wall would add value to your home, whereas the popcorn texture may be something a new buyer would want to remove.

Yes. Sagging ceilings often indicate more severe problems, such as structural damage, roof leaks, and pest infestations. As the sagging expands, your ceiling may eventually collapse, posing a threat to your physical safety and leading to expensive repair and restoration costs. That’s why you need to fix sagging ceilings as soon as you notice them.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

No, you do not have to worry about new popcorn ceilings having asbestos. All residential building materials used since the mid-1980s stopped including asbestos, so new popcorn ceilings have no risk of asbestos. You can still create a textured drywall ceiling with a popcorn texture if you like, but new techniques have no risk of adding asbestos.
