"Brackettry built us a beautiful house. They were easy to work with and knowledgable about products and styles. Gave great advice, and worked hard to reduce cost where possible. The owner is on the job site daily and walked us through every critical point of the project. We are very pleased."

"It was a pleasure working with Kyle and his company! Very responsive to emails and provided different landscaping options for us to review. We are very happy with the end result and would most definitely recommend them for landscaping.

"After receiving 3 estimates to have a 14 year old deck replaced we decided to go with Freedom Fence & Deck, my husband and I are so glad we did. Dan was very knowledgeable and professional; he was so helpful explaining the best product to use for our new deck. We received an estimate to tear the old deck down and replaced the new deck before Dan left our home. Dan & Candy, the office manager, followed up with the permits & our HOA requirements. The approximate period of time to get the deck started and to finish were as agreed on our contract. The crew, Whitey & Cody was very knowledgeable & hard working, great workmanship from start to finish. The deck was completed in a very reasonable time during very hot weather. They both were very personable & answered all our questions. Whitey & Cody cleaned up the work area everyday and made sure we were comfortable with the progress made on the job each day. We cannot thank you enough for your excellent service. The deck is a prime example of your hard work and dedication. We are looking forward to enjoying our deck for many years."

"CBJ Home Improvement did an outstanding job replacing some rotted outdoor wood rails and porch support beams at my home. The owner was very gracious and wonderful to work with. The entire process from estimate to job completion was seamless and stress free. The quality of the work was exceptional, and I would definitely reach out again for any future projects. "I called JES Foundation Company for a free inspection of my crawl space. I was concerned about a crack in my foundation wall. JES inspector Richard Sheman Showed up to inspect my foundation. He sent a text with the time of his arrival. He was pleasant and on time. He went into my crawlspace and inspected the crack in the wall and stated I had nothing to worry about. He was very knowledgeable about the foundation and itâ  s structure. He explain to me how I could fix the superficial settling crack and save a bunch of money. I appreciate the honesty of the business and I would recommend it to anyone who had the same concerns, and for any of their other services. Ron P Home owner."

"Gentleman representing the company showed up as scheduled.  He took a look at the basement, took some measurements, completed some documentation which ultimately didn't help us out.  Situation:  Moisture is coming in through the walls due to poor soil/soil drainage outside the house.  Unfortunately, this company doesn't do regrading, landscaping, or fix drainage problems causing the problem to begin with.  They recommend a product on the concept that your walls are coming in and you need to fix the symptom.  Perhaps, the concept works for folks, but the estimate didn't help in my case.

"The walls of the outside stairwell are beautiful, even though it's cinder block! An additional layer of cinder block was suggested so that water doesn't go into the stairwell. Drainage and a reservoir was added to move the water away from the stairwell. We will see once a long, hard rain comes if the basement will flood. The folks at Outdoor Advantage were very nice and knowledgeable!"

"I had gotten an estimate for brick work to repair the front porch at my family home. I was impressed with the accessment of the project which made me aware of aspects that I was not considering. The crew and Nick (project manager) were fantastic. They finished the job that was estimated at “possibly” two days in one. I am impressed and will definitely look to your company for future projects."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Start by brushing dry white salt deposits, known as efflorescence, off your brick surfaces without using water. Clear away ground-contact vegetation to prevent moisture retention during humid Forest Hill summers. Track structural settling by marking and dating crack edges with a pencil. Always avoid applying water-based sealers yourself, and hire a professional for structural masonry work to ensure full compliance with MD building codes.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work provides immediate protection against winter freeze-thaw damage and heavy spring rainfall. Fixing your chimney before October ensures safe operation during the cold months. Over the long term, maintaining your brick and stone extends your foundation's lifespan in MD clay soils. Proactive repairs also improve energy efficiency, maintain your property value, and prevent the need for complete structural rebuilds down the road.

Helpful?

After completing masonry work, monitor the repaired areas during the first heavy rain to ensure water stays out. Watch for new white salt deposits on the brick over the first few months. Because Forest Hill contains clay-heavy soils that drain slowly, verify that your site grading still directs water away from your foundation. Finally, schedule a certified chimney inspection before the winter heating season arrives.

Helpful?

Inspect your mortar joints every spring after the freezing weather ends. If joints crumble or sit recessed more than a quarter of an inch, schedule masonry work immediately. Watch for flaking brick faces, spreading white stains, or missing chimney caps. Because Forest Hill experiences frequent freeze-thaw cycles, address these warning signs quickly to protect your home from severe moisture damage and structural deterioration.

Helpful?

Contractors schedule masonry work primarily from late spring through early fall. Mortar requires consistent temperatures above 40 degrees to cure properly. Scheduling projects between May and October avoids the strict cold-weather construction provisions required by MD building codes. Spring serves as the busiest season for repairs, while early fall provides an ideal window to complete chimney repairs before the winter heating season begins.
