"Brackettry built us a beautiful house. They were easy to work with and knowledgable about products and styles. Gave great advice, and worked hard to reduce cost where possible. The owner is on the job site daily and walked us through every critical point of the project. We are very pleased."

"It was a pleasure working with Kyle and his company! Very responsive to emails and provided different landscaping options for us to review. We are very happy with the end result and would most definitely recommend them for landscaping.

"Freedom Fence and Deck did an excellent job building our new deck. They were flexible with the design, their price was fair, and they started on schedule. The construction crew, Whitey and Jimmy do outstanding work. They discovered some rotting wood in the supports holding up the back of our house and did an excellent job rebuilding them. Our new deck looks terrific."

"The team of Alan, Jose and Zach worked diligently for two days to stabilize my foundation. They were extremely professional and friendly. Jose actually took the time to show me why I had a problem and how to prevent future damage. I am extremely pleased with the work they performed. It is nice to have the before and after pictures and know they stand behind their work. Both days, someone came out and checked on the progress and inspected the work. I highly recommend using JES for all of your foundation needs. Laura"

"Gentleman representing the company showed up as scheduled.  He took a look at the basement, took some measurements, completed some documentation which ultimately didn't help us out.  Situation:  Moisture is coming in through the walls due to poor soil/soil drainage outside the house.  Unfortunately, this company doesn't do regrading, landscaping, or fix drainage problems causing the problem to begin with.  They recommend a product on the concept that your walls are coming in and you need to fix the symptom.  Perhaps, the concept works for folks, but the estimate didn't help in my case.

"They completed a 10 by 14-foot paver patio with a retaining wall on two sides under an existing deck. The project was completed in two days. Marvin told me the names/colors of the materials that would be used so I could view before the project was started. I asked questions at every step and Marvin explained everything that they were doing in detail. I would definitely use them again."

"Outdoor advantage did a superb job. They removed a large (20x12) fish pond that had been in place for over 30 years. They had to haul away about 6 tons of field stone then create a flat and level surface for the pool. They then seeded and put straw down on the bare area. They showed up on time and finished at the end of the day. Outdoor advantage is my go to company for any landscaping project. I've used them many times and wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A well-made brick wall can last up to 100 years if maintained properly, which includes regularly repairing the mortar every 30 to 50 years. If your brick wall is under 30 years old and is already showing signs of repair, it may be due to poor brickwork and installation. Extreme weather conditions can also accelerate a brick wall’s life span (especially the exterior of a house).

Staining or painting brick isn’t something to do on a whim. Make sure you really want to live with stained brick, because once you apply the stain, it’s permanent. Sure, it will fade over time, but you can’t restore the brick to its natural tones after applying a stain or paint.

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

Costs range from $3,500 to $15,000, depending on material, labor, and design complexity.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.
