"Mr. Hoffman provided a detailed sketch, including a chart that showed what would be planted where. He worked with us on an additional detail that we ultimately decided not to incorporate. He went with us to a place that sold pavers, to help us make a selection. He told us when the work would be scheduled. He showed up when he said he would. The crew worked each day until the project was completed. The finished product is beautiful, and definitely looks even nicer than we would have expected. The project came in on budget, except for a last-minute extra we requested."

"It was a pleasure working with Kyle and his company! Very responsive to emails and provided different landscaping options for us to review. We are very happy with the end result and would most definitely recommend them for landscaping.

Customers say: True professional

"This was the third time in one year that we’ve hired MD Legacy for a major landscaping job, and just like before, they totally knocked it out of the park! We came up with our own special design for a new stone garden wall, and they worked creatively and tirelessly to bring our vision to life. Even when the stone supplier delivered the wrong materials the day before, Eric rectified the situation as quickly as possible—and the very talented crew (Carlos, Jose, and Eric’s dad Reggie) worked extra long the second day to finish on time. The finished wall perfectly complements the shape of our property, and we can’t wait to start planting in it. And on top of their impeccable work, the whole team is so friendly and considerate—Jose even took the extra step of using a blower on all the cars down the street to make sure they were clean from any stone dust. We’re already looking forward to them coming back soon for the next improvement!"

"The team of Alan, Jose and Zach worked diligently for two days to stabilize my foundation. They were extremely professional and friendly. Jose actually took the time to show me why I had a problem and how to prevent future damage. I am extremely pleased with the work they performed. It is nice to have the before and after pictures and know they stand behind their work. Both days, someone came out and checked on the progress and inspected the work. I highly recommend using JES for all of your foundation needs. Laura"

"Gentleman representing the company showed up as scheduled.  He took a look at the basement, took some measurements, completed some documentation which ultimately didn't help us out.  Situation:  Moisture is coming in through the walls due to poor soil/soil drainage outside the house.  Unfortunately, this company doesn't do regrading, landscaping, or fix drainage problems causing the problem to begin with.  They recommend a product on the concept that your walls are coming in and you need to fix the symptom.  Perhaps, the concept works for folks, but the estimate didn't help in my case.

"Friendly, punctual and professional staff. They took down two trees for me, shred the small branches, cut the tree into logs and left for me to burn in my fire pit. I was very impressed with our first meeting for the estimate quote. Looked at the trees and gave me an estimate later that.evening. I can now sit on my back porch and look at the marsh with no obstructions. Thank you Culpepper & Sons Contractors. You did an excellent job and I am forever greatfull!!!"

"Outdoor advantage did a superb job. They removed a large (20x12) fish pond that had been in place for over 30 years. They had to haul away about 6 tons of field stone then create a flat and level surface for the pool. They then seeded and put straw down on the bare area. They showed up on time and finished at the end of the day. Outdoor advantage is my go to company for any landscaping project. I've used them many times and wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Modern brick homes have a brick facade over standard framing and sheathing, so the brick offers minimal added structural stability. A home with traditional brick construction is more durable than a stick-built home, as the double-layer brick walls and rebar resist higher lateral wind loads and support heavier loads up top, as well.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

When painting brick, each application method has pros and cons. Spraying is much faster but may not penetrate the porous surface of the bricks. Rolling is effective for getting paint into the bricks but doesn't work as well on the mortar. Brushing is very time-consuming and also won't penetrate beyond the surface. For the best results, a combination of spraying and rolling is often recommended. If you use a roller, choose a thick option (at least a half-inch) and ensure the paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage.

Landscape boulders, especially porous stones like sandstone or granite, can crack or break over time. Cracks occur when water seeps into the surface of the stone and freezes. The risk is highest when it rains during the day and temperatures freeze overnight since the moisture has time to penetrate deeper into the rock before expanding.

Granite is the strongest commercially available stone houses are built from. It’s also more commonly available, which means transport costs aren’t as high because a granite quarry isn’t too far from a build site. Limestone and sandstone are popular materials as well, but they aren’t as strong or weather-resistant as granite.
