Customers say: Quality work

"Unlike a couple of other business coordinators from competitors, Tar Heel Construction's coordinator, Brain, was not only courteous and approachable, but also patient and empathetic. He did not try to rush into pressured business dealings but, instead, spent quality time listening attentively to our needs and thoroughly inspecting our roof, before engaging us in a more informative discussion about our project. Brian was careful to solicit answers to questions that aligned with our goals, so that he could show and explain relevant options for us to choose from. His knowledge of our roofing problems, along with his unexaggerated estimates and forthrightness gained our trust and we decided to choose him and Tar Heel Construction for the first phase of our project, which was to repair our roof's "dead valley" area. Then, not long after signing the contract to repair the "dead valley," and just before the date scheduled to begin that work, we left Brian a message on a Saturday to report that rain had come in the house from the "dead valley" area of the roof. Brian contacted us immediately, even though he was at a soccer game with his son, and told us he would send a crew to our house within 24 hours! That extraordinary level of care persuaded us to not postpone getting the shingle part of the project done and we called Brian back to have him send us a new contract to include completing the work for both the "dead valley" and replacing the shingles on the entire roof. Within three days of signing the new contract, Brian sent two teams out to begin the work and we had a new complete roof, just before more rain! If you are looking to repair or replace your roof and want an unparalleled customer-focused experience, that consists of a hassle free consultation, a fair price and financing options with low interest rate, then call on Brian and Tar Heel Construction and get Peace of Mind from receiving outstanding workmanship and the state-of-the-art products."

"There's nothing worse that dealing with pooring rain and strong winds and then hearing the drip, drip sound of water coming into your home due to a damaged roof. I reached out to roofing repair companies through Angie's list and Roofing Pups responded. Marcus came out the next day and put my fears at ease. The bad news was that I needed a new roof. He showed me my options available, categorized as "good", "better" and "best". Despite my choosing the lowest option, he still threw in some discounts and upgrades at no additional cost. I signed the contract and he arranged for someone to come out at tarp my roof. He even went the extra mile of going to Home Depot and setting up buckets in my attic to catch the water still coming in. The roofing crew came out two days later and gave me a beautiful new roof. They then meticulously cleaned the area. It was great working with Roofing Pups. I couldn't be happier and highly recommend!"

"The roof cleaner, Mr. Fendeilsten was very cordial and polite, and I believe he did a good job cleaning the roof. However, he did leave on side of the house full of debris and moss from the roof, and the chemicals that he applied on the roof needed to be hosed off. I would refer him to people but he has to be thorough and leave the area clean."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Roofers most often use nails to fasten roofing shingles and other roofing materials. Nails have more holding power than staples and offer better weather resistance and longevity. However, it is possible to use staples instead of nails when installing a roof. Staples are less expensive, but not as high-quality.

Yes, in many cases, homeowners insurance does cover roof damage caused by snow. For instance, if your roof collapses during a snowstorm or an ice dam results in a ceiling leak, your policy should cover repair costs. However, for a claim to be approved, the roof must have been well-maintained and in good condition before the snow-related damage occurred. The payout, whether full or partial, can also vary depending on the age of your roof and its overall condition prior to the snowfall. It is always best to review your specific homeowners insurance policy to understand the details of your coverage and any potential exclusions.

Roof vents are an essential part of a roof, as they promote energy efficiency by keeping warm, humid air at bay. The roofing material, especially asphalt shingles, will not last as long as it should (about half of its manufacture life) if the attic is not ventilated. Also, going without ventilation means having a warm attic that demands more from your air conditioning system (and your wallet, once the bills come). Ridge vents and roof vents also prevent a host of other icky moisture-related problems like rot, mold, and mildew.

DIY is possible for minor repairs. Professional services ensure proper sealing and alignment for larger issues.

Sometimes chimney caps blow off during storms or fall off after rusting away. While this typically won’t cause structural damage, failing to replace a chimney cap can. A chimney cap prevents moisture, animals, and debris from entering your chimney, all of which can cause serious problems, such as damage to the masonry or blockages in the flue.
