"Called for an estimate and the company came out and provided a free estimate for the spot I was looking to install a patio. Kyle provided a few options as I didn't know exactly what type of stone to go with. The estimate ended up coming in over $1k cheaper than the other companies. The job took a day to do and it was all coordinated over email because of my schedule. I just left the gate unlock. It looks great and is everything I imagined. I've gotten several compliments already. I would highly recommend company."

"We needed our brick front walk repaired. We did some research and also asked neighbors for referrals and got two. The first contractor wanted to replace our entire brick steps and walkway with flagstone (expensive!). The second contractor was Brothers Pavers and Jose said he could repair only the part that needed fixing. He provided a quote (very reasonable) within a day and started work the following week. We were in a time crunch and Jose was able to work us in. Amazing!! It took two days to do the repair and each day the work area was cleaned. Once the mortar was cured, they came back and power washed the steps and walkway - it looked brand new! We highly recommend this company. Jose and the team were excellent to work with."

"After receiving 3 estimates to have a 14 year old deck replaced we decided to go with Freedom Fence & Deck, my husband and I are so glad we did. Dan was very knowledgeable and professional; he was so helpful explaining the best product to use for our new deck. We received an estimate to tear the old deck down and replaced the new deck before Dan left our home. Dan & Candy, the office manager, followed up with the permits & our HOA requirements. The approximate period of time to get the deck started and to finish were as agreed on our contract. The crew, Whitey & Cody was very knowledgeable & hard working, great workmanship from start to finish. The deck was completed in a very reasonable time during very hot weather. They both were very personable & answered all our questions. Whitey & Cody cleaned up the work area everyday and made sure we were comfortable with the progress made on the job each day. We cannot thank you enough for your excellent service. The deck is a prime example of your hard work and dedication. We are looking forward to enjoying our deck for many years."

"I am very pleased with my experience with JES and their repair of the foundation on my home. Rafael Garcia and Kevin Alfaro walked me through everything that was being done as the work progressed and showed me the what was done as they progressed. Along with Armando Aguilar, they were prompt and worked efficiently. I would recommend them to anyone with foundation concerns."

"The concrete patio was removed, along with the fence all around it. The foundations were exposed. A 7-foot crack was found on one end of the back corner wall of the house, and a smaller one on the end other end. The corner walls were reinforced at each end and underpinnings in between both ends were used to provide more support.  Inside the house, the floor of the family room downstairs was excavated all along the length of the house, on a width of about 2 feet (?).  Gravel was used to fill in the holed-out area to ensure better water filtration, and when everything was done a layer of concrete was poured to restore the floor to a point where I could have it refinished.
It was messy, dusty, noisy, lengthy, and costly.  To make matters worse, by the time my home equity loan came through, it was early January. The work started on the Monday in January that would bring us the 2016 blizzard. Needless to say, this slowed down the work since workers could not even gain access to my house for many days. When it was time to pour the concrete on the floor in the family room, that was also delayed because of the weather. The cement company cannot mix the concrete when the temperature is too low.
AA Action Waterproofing provides the services of a structural engineer, but they contract out the work of digging out and making repairs, with the engineer overseeing the work.
I cannot speak highly enough of the guys who worked in my house for about a month.  They dealt with rain, snow, severe cold, difficult access -- my house is built on a slope, and there was no way to bring a truck right where the construction debris was generated.  They showed up for work when they were supposed to and worked really hard.  They were always very polite and friendly.
Fortunately, everything that they removed was old, and I was planning to take out a home equity loan to redo the patio and the family room in the spring anyway.  I would have been devastated if that part of the house had already been upgraded. Of course, I can't do as much home improvement as I wanted to since $25,000 went to AA Action Waterproofing. But at least I am reassured that my house will not collapse! From what the engineer said, my house had not reached the point where I had to act ASAP. But I had to do something if I didn't want my house to become worthless. Apparently, with these problems, the deterioration is very gradual. Then you get a tipping point, and damage occurs very quickly.
There could have been better communication between the structural engineer and myself. I did not realize the extent of the "damage" that would be done inside. Also, I did not mind losing access to my TV (I have one upstairs), but I hit the roof when I came home one day and did not have internet access.  I work from home twice a week, and often put in some work in the evening or early morning in addition to putting in a full day at work. I was furious, and, frankly, not nice at all.  What matters, however, is how the company and the workers reacted when they got my screaming phone calls in the evening. They apologized and told me they would restore internet access to me every evening at the end of the day, if they needed to disconnect it.  They also told me when I would not have access during the day, ahead of time, and for hour long, so that I could plan to go to work instead or go to Starbucks/the library.  Writing this, I feel bad that I was so nasty to them.  They were true to their word, and I have a lot of respect for them.
Currently, I am in the process of having the family room repaired/remodeled extensively. It is also messy, dusty, not so much noisy, but definitely costly too. And UNBELIEVABLY LENGTHY.  I am dealing with a provider who is much, much less responsive than AA ActionWaterproofing and its contractors were.  They worked hard to get the job done well.  My current provider drags the process on and on and on and on.
Still, I hope I never, ever need the services of AA ActionWaterproofing! I can think of other ways to spend my money.  But I would definitely recommend the company to someone who would need the same services as I did.

"Wow! These guys gave a quote that was inline with the other venders except they also brought a sense of professionalism and some great ideas. The saved me money by paving over an already existing concrete slab and removed parts of the slab that was broken. The trenched a couple areas and put in underground plumbing (rain gutter and sump pump runoff). They worked in a very tight and difficult area (no wheel borrows) and put in beautiful Blue pavers. They also put in a cedar screen to hide our garbage can and a pop up drain for the runoff. They did this job very quick (less than two weeks from the initial visit and within budget. They also came back quickly to fix any complaints. We are very happy with the end result and would hire them again. We wished we did this much sooner. They made an ignored backyard into something we enjoy using.

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Certain towns and homeowner associations (HOAs) ban brick mailboxes because of the risk of obstruction. They are sometimes only permitted in cases where four or more homes share a mailbox. Homeowners may need to obtain special permits in some locations. One of the top masonry contractor hiring tips is to ask a local pro if they can show you examples of recent work that meets local code regulations.

A mason lays brick or stone together, sometimes with mortar in between the bricks and stones, and sometimes without mortar, also called a dry-stack or surface bonding. Examples of work masons do include:

  • Brick, stone, or cement block houses and buildings

  • Freestanding stone or brick walls

  • Chimneys with wood-burning fireplaces

  • Cement block basement or crawl space walls

Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.

You can use a regular drill to make pilot holes for gutter brackets in the wooden fascia board around the top of your house, but it’s not the best tool for brick. Instead, you’ll need a heavy-duty power tool like a hammer drill with a carbide tip bit.
