"What I like about working with James was he stayed in constant contact with me through the whole project. He repaired a hole left in my bathroom ceiling by the AC installer. Fixed a leaky pipe pipe under the upstairs toilet via the downstairs ceiling. Redid my Powder Room ceiling by installing a new ceiling. I like this guy he was very responsible cleaned up after himself and was very effective cost wise. I'll use him again. Thanks James."

"We’ve hired Teddy from Mr. Handyman several times over the last few years, and we are always super impressed with his work. He is highly skilled at virtually every kind of task, large or small, and always knows how to tailor the job to the particular needs of our house. He’s installed exterior crawl-space doors, caulked around bathroom fixtures, shaved our wooden doors so they’d be able to close again, and replaced door knobs, among other things. And today, he installed new fireplace doors to perfection. He works thoughtfully and carefully, finding the best solution for each issue, protecting the house from any damage (even when carrying large doors through narrow hallways!), and cleaning up after the work is done. Finding a great handyman who you can trust is invaluable, and we look forward to hiring Teddy for any of our future household needs."

"I needed a ceiling patch. Install 2 new air vents and replace ballast, replace bubs in ceiling kitchen light (large ceiling light), replace bulb in ceiling fan and replace bulb in laundry light. Olvin Ramirez did it all and beautifully. He is kind, respectful, knowledgeable and very hardworking! I’ve never seen anyone who works as quickly and accurately as Olvin does. He was without a doubt the best handyman I have ever had the pleasure to work with and would greatly appreciate and welcome him into my home again for future projects."

"The main purpose of this job was to spruce up my kitchen after a separate company had installed new kitchen cabinets and countertop, plus a couple of other minor fix-it tasks.
I was disappointed with this particular experience. I've used this company in the past and never had a problem with them, but this time they sub-contracted out the work and the results were not up to their usual standards.
The handyman (sub-contractor) who arrived appeared stressed-out and was certainly not prepared. He said he couldn't read the instructions on the contract, so I had to go over the work with him. He had no ladder (to reach the porch chimney) and was missing several other supplies; he ended up making at least 2 trips to the store to pick them up - getting lost on the way back from one of them.
Most jobs were done reasonably well, but a couple of things were done poorly. For example, after installing the microwave the first time I found I could not open the corner kitchen cabinet, so the handyman had to move the microwave over. The door he sanded is now splintered on that edge, but I don’t really care since I want to replace the interior doors in my house sometime. The paint job itself was sloppy – I could have done better myself. The edging (cabinets, countertop, etc.) was done badly and there were splashes and smudges in numerous places. Blue painter's tape had not been removed completely. My cabinets are espresso (black-brown) and my cooktop is black, so everything showed. The trim was painted without filling nail marks first. He had missed painting in a few places, and had put one very see-through coat on the wall behind the refrigerator. The biggest issue I had was the accidental spilling of white ceiling paint on the hardwood kitchen floor. The handyman had not covered any surfaces with drop cloths, and the drop cloth on the floor was very thin. So the paint went right through.
When I called the company to complain, they sent out the same handyman to address my issues. He was very polite and apologetic, and fixed most things. But the next day I found that, in natural daylight, the wood floor was still looking white. I sent a letter of complaint with photos to the main company and told them I did not want the same handyman back. They were extremely responsive and helpful and sent out a company employee at my convenience, who was able to restore my floor to a near-new condition. (Now I have to clean the rest of the floor to match!)
The lesson learned for me was to get a professional painter not a handyman to do paint work. I will use Handyman On Call again, as I believe this to be a one-time occurrence, but I will remain cautious.

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Regular inspections ensure no blockages, structural stability, prevention from fire hazards, and maintenance of optimal heat venting, safeguarding household safety.

You can relight a pilot light by yourself, but it’s not always the safest choice to do so. While the job is straightforward, a small mistake could end in a gas leak, fire, or explosion. That’s why we recommend everyone hire a pro for this job. Local furnace pros have lit dozens if not hundreds of pilot lights, and they’re well-versed and highly experienced in the proper safety protocols to keep you, your family, and your home safe while doing so.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

EIFS has several disadvantages, primarily related to cost and moisture. The system tends to have higher upfront installation costs compared to other siding options, and repairs can also be expensive, especially if water damage occurs. A significant downside is its low breathability, which can trap moisture between its layers from either leakage or condensation. This trapped moisture increases the risk of developing mold and rot, which can lead to costly and extensive repairs if not addressed promptly.

Yes. Not only do gas stoves present the risk of a gas leak, but cooking with gas produces twice as much harmful particulate matter. According to Columbia University’s Climate School, gas stoves can also release formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen, and carbon monoxide, which can be toxic in high concentrations.
