"Scott and The Curtice Group team were fantastic to work with from start to finish. The project was extensive, full bathroom remodel, removal of out dated electrical in 75% of the house, and finishing the basement to be a new living space with full bathroom, bedroom, mudroom, and laundry room, which included a new HVAC system, new plumbing, and significant structural engineering. Scott worked with me to develop an overall design and was open to ideas and questions and did a great job incorporating my wish list of ideas into the design, while providing insight and recommendations based on his years of experience. Scott developed a very detailed plan and budget and was very transparent during the entire process, communicating well when there were changes to timeline or budget. Throughout the duration of the project Scott and his team were available for my questions, provided me their recommendations, and guided me through the process. The extensive project was completed on time and in budget and the quality of craftsmanship (e.g., the design, woodwork, tile work, painting) is outstanding. I have nothing but positive experiences working with Scott and The Curtice Group and highly recommend them."

"My wife and I were looking to have an addition built on our 2 bedroom / 1 bath home back in the winter of 2022. After a phone conversation with Richard, we decided to have him come out to the house. He was very clear with the iCornerstone process, and the benefits of using this process. He is meticulous in measuring and understanding the existing structure. There are no guesstimates and all cost projections are based on the actual materials and labor needed to complete the work. Having such clarity regarding costs before any work begins is not something I've seen in this industry prior to this experience. It was certainly a welcome change. We now have plans for a home addition and complete control over the project. We decide the scope and can customize the plan to our budget. We are grateful to have worked with Richard, and highly recommend him!"

"I live in Belmont, MA and have a two car concrete garage with a large center column. I was interesting in removing the center column to make a single large opening for the garage to make it easier to get in and out with a larger car. I had already hired another structural engineer to do an inspection but their price for drawings felt kind of high. So I looked on Angi and got connected to Berdi Consulting through Pavel, who quoted me a more reasonable amount for the inspection and structural drawings for the garage door steel beam. Pavel's inspection was helpful and informative and he produced the drawings as we agreed on a reasonable timeline. and was able to put me in touch with an iron fabricator. Thanks for a job well done."

"After an unusual situation arose at my home, I was concerned about the possibility of structural damage caused by drilling and new construction at an adjacent lot. After receiving a recommendation for Veitas Engineers from a trusted source, I called and scheduled an appointment. I am so thankful that I did. I continue to be impressed with the amount of time that the two engineers spent at my house, closely inspecting the exterior and interior. Within days, I received a 16-page detailed report which included drawings, photographs, recommendations, and action items. I was so pleased when I saw that the action items were categorized as structural and non-structural, that is, that the engineers included items beyond my actual structural concerns. I used the report when working with a contractor to follow up on the recommendations and action items. The contractor was impressed with the quality, clarity, and scope of the report. I am so happy that I chose Veitas Engineers!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Be cautious of quotes in Woburn that overlook soil analysis, propose skipping necessary permits, or seem unusually low compared to others. Watch for generic proposals that don’t address your home’s age, local building codes, or specific soil conditions. Lack of experience with Woburn’s historic homes, vague timelines, or missing details about protecting existing structures are also warning signs when selecting a structural engineer.

Helpful?

In Woburn, regular structural maintenance includes checking foundations for cracks from freeze-thaw cycles, inspecting basements for moisture after heavy rain, and assessing roof supports following snowstorms. Homes on clay soils should be monitored for uneven settling, which is common locally. Scheduling annual or bi-annual professional evaluations helps catch issues early, especially in Woburn’s variable climate, ensuring your home remains safe and structurally sound.

Helpful?

Structural engineering in Woburn often involves preserving historic details—like original beams or brickwork—while upgrading safety and functionality. Engineers use creative solutions, such as concealed supports or custom framing, to open up floor plans or finish basements without compromising structural integrity. All modifications must meet local codes, but thoughtful design ensures that both modern needs and Woburn’s architectural character are respected throughout the project.

Helpful?

Coordinating structural engineering with upgrades like basement waterproofing, insulation, or window replacements in Woburn can minimize project delays and reduce disruptions. By planning multiple improvements together, you can streamline scheduling, limit the number of inspections, and take advantage of seasonal weather—especially by targeting exterior work in spring or summer. This approach is particularly effective for older Woburn homes needing both structural and energy-efficiency updates.

Helpful?

For structural engineering in Woburn, knowing your property’s construction year, type of foundation, and whether it’s located in a historic district or flood-prone area is crucial. Details like soil composition—common in Woburn, such as clay or sandy loam—impact foundation choices. Also, understanding the layout and age of existing utilities, as well as local snow load requirements, helps tailor safe, code-compliant solutions for your specific home.
