Customers say: Quality work

"Was having a potential home inspected for structural integrity. Spoke to Bob on the phone a few times. Since the home’s basement primarily consisted of a giant crawl space, I was told Don would do the job. Ultimately, the day before the scheduled inspection, I couldn’t get ahold of Don. Bob said Don was “feeling sick,” so the job was off. Frustrating, but a blessing in disguise because we ended up going with Colonial Restorations (the home was built in the 1800s). Colonial Restorations, LLC is the “go-to” for older home inspections and repairs. Tom was amazing (his son Brad is soon to take over the business)! They were both prompt, professional, and thorough. Very pleased with their work and thorough report/estimate. Colonial Restorations, LLC PO Box 868 Fiskdale, MA 01518 508-735-9900"

"After an unusual situation arose at my home, I was concerned about the possibility of structural damage caused by drilling and new construction at an adjacent lot. After receiving a recommendation for Veitas Engineers from a trusted source, I called and scheduled an appointment. I am so thankful that I did. I continue to be impressed with the amount of time that the two engineers spent at my house, closely inspecting the exterior and interior. Within days, I received a 16-page detailed report which included drawings, photographs, recommendations, and action items. I was so pleased when I saw that the action items were categorized as structural and non-structural, that is, that the engineers included items beyond my actual structural concerns. I used the report when working with a contractor to follow up on the recommendations and action items. The contractor was impressed with the quality, clarity, and scope of the report. I am so happy that I chose Veitas Engineers!"

"Jed Hannon is an experienced Structural Engineer. We required two inspections, one for required paperwork and another in order to make a major structural decision. Jed provided both services. We had full confidence in Jed's professional knowledge as well as his informal advice. We would not hesitate to recommend."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Boston, homeowners often overlook soil testing, underestimate the impact of freeze-thaw cycles, or skip necessary permits. Hiring contractors unfamiliar with local climate or historic district requirements can cause compliance issues. Failing to address drainage, snow loads, or corrosion protection may lead to foundation problems or costly repairs. Careful planning and choosing experienced professionals help avoid these common pitfalls.

Helpful?

Completing structural engineering projects in Boston provides immediate benefits like enhanced safety, improved code compliance, and increased home value. Over time, you’ll see reduced maintenance needs, better energy efficiency, and stronger protection against moisture or weather damage. Investing in quality structural work also makes future renovations easier, as your home will be better prepared for upgrades such as load-bearing wall modifications or finished basements.

Helpful?

Boston’s unpredictable weather—harsh winters, heavy snow, and coastal storms—directly affects structural engineering projects. Deep foundations are essential to prevent frost heave, and roofs must be designed for significant snow loads. Salt air near the coast accelerates steel corrosion, so using corrosion-resistant materials is crucial. Scheduling work between spring and fall helps avoid weather-related delays and ensures safer, more efficient project completion.

Helpful?

In Boston, combining structural engineering with upgrades like foundation repair, basement waterproofing, or insulation improvements can streamline your project. Coordinating these services minimizes disruptions, allows for bundled permits, and often leads to a more efficient timeline. For historic homes, addressing structural needs alongside restoration work ensures compliance and preserves property value, making the renovation process smoother and more cost-effective in the long run.

Helpful?

Before starting a structural engineering project in Boston, consult with local experts and arrange for soil analysis and a thorough property assessment. Gather all existing plans, check for zoning or historic restrictions, and secure required permits early. Plan for possible weather delays, especially in winter, and set aside a contingency budget. Clear communication with your team and proactive scheduling help ensure a smooth project from start to finish.
