"I will submit a more detailed review upon job completion (end of April ‘18) but so far Scott and his team - especially the project manager assigned to our job, Brian - have been fantastic. Detailed, accurate cost estimates, craftsmanship, excellent sub-contractors. I can’t say enough positive things. I received many lower bids, but feel confident that Scott and Brian have made recommendations that more than offset the “higher” bid differential. Plus our job is looking fantastic!"

"Richard was extremely helpful providing a demonstration of his software and his approach to the process. He visited our space and took detailed measurements and put together very detailed, professional plans. We are using the plans to help us secure the proper town approvals to proceed with our project. He answered all of our questions and was incredibly responsive. I would recommend him to others - he's a great expert to work with!"

"This was the last part of a large project begun early in 2019 to address structural issues and settling. Bill was very flexible, working around our schedules during the summer. His painting/wallpapering crew was excellent, giving us great advice and paying close attention to our needs. We would definitely go back to Perry Brothers for similar projects in the future."

Customers say: Quality work

"We employed Alan E. Taylor, Architect to draw up the plans that would allow us to age-in-place in the family home. We enjoyed working with Mr. Taylor on our project. He was enthusiastic in helping us to design changes that would allow us to be all on one floor. His engineering skills helped in deciding what structural changes were possible. He designed an addition and other exterior and interior structural changes that blended nicely with the rest of the house both interior & exterior. He also tried to help us find a way to put in a laundry on the first floor that would be in compliance with the town regulations."

"After an unusual situation arose at my home, I was concerned about the possibility of structural damage caused by drilling and new construction at an adjacent lot. After receiving a recommendation for Veitas Engineers from a trusted source, I called and scheduled an appointment. I am so thankful that I did. I continue to be impressed with the amount of time that the two engineers spent at my house, closely inspecting the exterior and interior. Within days, I received a 16-page detailed report which included drawings, photographs, recommendations, and action items. I was so pleased when I saw that the action items were categorized as structural and non-structural, that is, that the engineers included items beyond my actual structural concerns. I used the report when working with a contractor to follow up on the recommendations and action items. The contractor was impressed with the quality, clarity, and scope of the report. I am so happy that I chose Veitas Engineers!"

"Ken responded immediately, came over next day, gave great advises, created couple of draft plans with different options for my consideration. After final decision was made, he created the final drawing next day. He is very nice friendly person and also gave reasonable price. Highly recommended!"

"Contacted them in march, they were quick to get back to me to see the job and make a proposal. I wanted steel rather than the more common laminated wood beam, they were happy to accomodate this. I had to clear all my stuff out of the basement so that they could work, this delayed my acceptance of the contract until I finished . When they began it took about a 2 weeks to complete. They first put up 2 tempoary support walls, removed the basement staircase and put it off to one side, then poured the footings for the post. When the concrete was ready it took 1 day to lift in the beam and put the post under it. A great improvement over what was there when i bought the house.

October 2015, I am still pleased with the steel beam."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The process involves initial consultation, concept development, detailed planning, regulatory approvals, and integration of contractor work for project execution.

Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.

Yes, you can put a doorway in a structural wall; in fact, most exterior doors are set into structural walls. The project is a little more challenging than installing a door in a non-load-bearing wall because you need a structural engineer to assess the wall and make sure it’s safe to create a wall opening. Your engineer’s report will include instructions for your contractor on how and where to install additional supports, like steel headers above the door, to distribute the weight above to the wall on either side of the door.

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

The National Association of Home Builders requires repair of any foundation crack of more than one quarter of an inch, although local regulations may vary. In general, any visible crack that is growing in size, allowing water through, or that you have just noticed, is a good reason to call a structural engineer. Cracks can be a sign of a sinking foundation, so an inspection is a good idea for your peace of mind.
